A question for all who support English soccer teams
I'd like to start supporting a soccer team. But how do I go about deciding which team to support? Like why should I support Liverpool over Chelsea? Or Everton over Liverpool? After all I have **** all to do with the cities these teams are based in. Genuine answers only...........

Ya know, ya could support a team that has irish players on it-sunderland or reading would be two. ya might want to go with sunderland cause theyre in the premier league. If i was you, i'd go for Arsenal-they have some good players and their underage players are lookin very promising

Re: A question for all who support English soccer teams
Don't pick Man U they're too common and full of people who just like to say that they support Man U. Liverpool is a good choice not Chelsea. I'd say go Tottenham. They always reminded me of a genuine football team not caught up wtith the money side of things and they have Robbie Keane. Enough said. Otherwise Leeds all they way if you're not picking someone in the premiership.

I think I'll go with Accrington Stanley. Does anyone think they are any good? Won the Conference a few years back, didn't they?
What will I have to do now to become a supporter?

If you ask me, liverpool supporters seem alot more common around here than Man Utd ones! And don't get me started on Chelsea, bloody mercenaries! Really pisses me off the amount of them that cropped up all of a sudden a few years ago!
As for me, I started supporting Utd before the big successes, though I was only a young un! The uncle was a fantical fan and got me and the brothers into it. So I wasn't lured by the success, it was a family thing. That's always a good way to start following a team when you're young, rather than looking at who's top of the table! Such a great club rich in history. It's amazing, and truely inspiring how they built a team to conquer Europe only a decade after the Munich disaster. Apart from Utd I quite like Villa. And always had a soft spot for Spurs too. My cousin is a mad fan of them, god knows how he got into them!
But I know you're taking the mick here Loyal, you're only making a mockery of us who follow a soccer team! Sure you've no time for that sport do you not?

I respect that ya. I was talking about these new age ones that just seem to support them because they have the likes of Rooney and Ronaldo.

I support Liverpool for the sheer passion of the players like Stevie G, Carragher etc they grew up living an breathing Liverpool and it shows. The scenes of 2005 CL final were that of total Jubilation Street Parties in Liverpool etc.
Man Utd were nothing like that last year, more like ah theres another trophy for the cabinet. Look at the United Players, all more bothered about press coverage look at Ronaldo, taking the hand out of United last year about his move to Spain. How can you say thats aplayer totally committed to the team.

hmmmmmm, maybe its cause theres only bout twelve of us that post on this site, two of which are everton fans, are they getting very comman as us as well??!!??? i'll let ya in on a lil secret , i was a united supporter when i was 7 cause someone bought me a pencil case. to be honest, my mates were pool supporters, and thats how i got a hold, and never looked back. yes we dont win leagues, yes we tend to choke against minor teams , yes we're not a shower of sc****S, gloryhunter jumping on the bandwagon shower. and least we can boast we dont have that feck renaldo on our team, chest shavin, jumpin on the ground fecker. he'd be a great footballer if he didnt spend most the time on the ground

Yes but I never claimed Rooney grew up living and breathing Man Utd did I? -->
By the way I don't really agree with your original point. Gerrard aside, who out of that team would fit into that category as growing up supporting Liverpool? From Man Utd's starting team alone in last years final, there were 2 local lads, Brown and Scholes. Then you have Giggs who came on who moved to Manchester at a very young age but we'll not count him in this for arguments sake as he nearly went to City!
Of course if you want to go back at the '99 final there's even more local lads involved. Aswell as Scholes and Brown, you had the Nevilles and Butt, all Man Utd born and bred. I realise a few of them moved on and are no longer one-club-men, but there still remains Gary Neville, Scholes and Brown who grew up supporting Utd, Giggs a loyal servant too. So I fail to see how you reckon winning the Champions League wouldn't be as special for these players as it was for Gerrard. And I know what you're saying about the Ronaldo saga somewhat overshadowing things, but sure that's what happens when you've the world's best player at the club!

Mid-Mon Man I think we might just have to agree to disagree..mainly because it's hard to have a disagreement with Fr Dougal
Come the end of may we will have bigger fish to fry opposed to Man U and Liverpool!!

Jeez lino I was only messing about pool fans being more common, don't be getting all mad about it! I'm just annoyed there's no back-up here and it's mostly pool fans! Hopefully the two will meet down the line in the Champions League eh!

You said it Niamh, come championship time the sparks will really start to fly! Both teams seem to have been going rightly(today excepted ), so it'll be interesting to see how "round 3" pans out! Derry favourites at the minute anyway!

Re: A question for all who support English soccer teams
Accrington Stanley? Who are they? Exactly!
I never really followed soccer until I met my other half, he has supported Everton since he was a young fella and I follow them now. They have a real down-to-earth manager and a group of very dedicated players who have a great team spirit. They might not have won anything since 1995 but I still love watching them.
Go on the Toffees!!

And that's what you say back, good enough response I suppose! I've been getting serious abuse from my Liverpool-supporting friends ever since the game, just want to erase that by playing them again asap! God knows who'd win it though, anything could happen over 2 legs.

Re: A question for all who support English soccer teams
Well I'll be honest, I think the whole supporting soccer teams is a bit silly. But thats only my opinion. And I know one or two regular posters on this forum will back me up - without naming any names. I'd like to think I know quite a bit about the sport and that I appreciate greatness when I see it. But I would have little or no reason to start supporting any team that I have zero assiocation with.
