Quarter Finals Draw
Right ladies and gentlemen, with only one qualifier left for decision, the draw for the All Ireland quarter finals will take place later on this afternoon.
Provincial winners will face the winners from the qualifiers (except in the case of Dublin and Cork who cannot play Kildare and Limerick respectively) so what are peoples predictions?
My predictions are:
Tyrone v Kerry
Dublin v Donegal
Cork v Kildare
Mayo v Meath/Limerick

Called 2 of them right anyway!
Dubs - Kerry obviously the big one, should be a very interesting one.

Re: Quarter Finals Draw
Assuming Meath get past Limerick, Mayo-Meath will be very interesting indeed. I don't think Mayo are as good as they're being made out this last while, and if Meath click on the day and get the rub of the green, who knows? It would be amazing if they got to another semi! Decent chance of it though I'd have to agree. I've only seen Meath play once this year, and not even in the championship, so it's hard enough to comment, but much stranger things have happened.

Re: Quarter Finals Draw
A semi was the minimum for Meath this year.
But we are going all the way.
Paddy O'Rourke, great goal, huge kickouts.
Full-back line, how many teams would Cormac McGill be a sub on and Kevin Reilly to come back.
Half-Back line, McGuinnes best CHB in Ireland flanked by Kenny and King, animals.
Midfield, Crawford in the form of his life, Brian Meade is good too.
And the forwards, Byrne, Ward, Bray, Bray, Farrell, Joe.
We are going all the way lads. McGill, Moyles, McAnarney, Ward, Queeney, a quality bench too.

Did you suffer from a lack of oxygen during the mountain stage of the tour Loyal?
There's a lot of football to be played before you can start calling Meath real contenders. They haven't actually reached the quarter finals yet. Talk about putting the cart before the horse

Its a pity we put out half a team against Dublin as we should have taken them that day too.

LOL. I'm sure your forefathers are spinning in their graves! Maybe it'll get easier over time. Perhaps you should start by singing "the green and red of Mayo". The lads are from Galway so it might ease you into things!

Re: Quarter Finals Draw
Good draw for Donegal, can see them beating Cork if they keep their consistincy.
Kildare should put it up to Tyrone but you would think Tyrone would have too much for them in the end. Dublin v Kerry should be a cracker, Kerry certain to raise their game against the Dubs but Dublin are in with a great chance here on form. They need to understand though that as far as Kerry are concerned the All-Ireland race is only just beginning now. If Dublin turn it on though they can and should win.
Mayo should have too much for Meath or Limerick in the other one.

Re: Quarter Finals Draw
I'll have some of what Loyals having it appears to be great stuff
All in all i am happy enough with the draw - was hoping to get Kerry but alas it wasnt to be. Kildare wont be an easy team to beat but their defence showed enough this year to suggest Tyrone will give them plenty of problems and i cant help but think we have enough quality in defence to contain the limited options they have up front.
I can see Donegal beating Cork - Cork may be a big physical side but Donegal are no sluches either and have enough big men to break even on that score. Murphy is a handful at FF and isnt bad at frees either - big question is can Mc Fadden turn up 3 games in a row or is he destined to go into hibernation as in the past. It has the makings of a very interesting game.
Dublin will start as favourites for this one and rightly so - Kerry are in turmoil and its obviously a very divided camp. The Dubs are on the crest of a wave and have real self belief this time round, they will be looking forward to this one with real hopes of getting a monkey of their back which has been there for nigh on 4 years - i expect Kerry to be looking for a new manager after this one.
I'd expect Meath to beat Limerick next weekend to set up a clash with Mayo - its a tough one to call but Mayo would start as slight favourites though a Meath win would surprise me at all.

Re: Quarter Finals Draw
I really thought Tyrone would get Kildare and its the best/worst draw they could get! Cork are jammy - again! Mayo - if they are serious contenders will arrive in the semis.
And then Dublin-Kerry. I should have no fear but in all honesty if I was a Kerryman after the week they've had - I would've prayed for Dublin. Still we have to beat them to be in the mix - and 32 years later - it'd be about time!

Re: Quarter Finals Draw
absoloutly delighted with the draw. was crapping it that wed get Kerry and no matter how bad Kerry are playing we all know Mayos record against them in recent years.
Meath/Limerick was the best draw Mayo could have asked for. id expect Limerick to account for Meath again this year and then Mayo would have no fear of Limerick(wed have no fear of Meath either)
the other matches tho i find harder to call. i think Kildare could be worth a few quid but it is hard to look past Tyrone, even tho they havnt had a tough game all year and are coming into the 1/4 finals the same way Dublin usually do, completely undercooked. depending on which Donegal team turns up at the weekend then they could win and Dublin/Kerry is hard to call no matter how good/bad either team is playing. il take a stab at calling the semis tho:
Kildare-Donegal
Mayo-Dublin

Re: Quarter Finals Draw
I think Mayo would be very fearful of playing Meath. Of course, it all depends on whether or not we beat Limerick (50/50 game in Portlaoise). But if we do advance, then all the talk will be of revenge for 1996. Which I believe will suit Meath nicely enough, same thing happened with Tyrone two years ago and look what happened. Mayo have also underachieved since O'Mahony took over, its a lovely quarter final for Meath if we can beat Limerick. The Meath players won't be thinking about that game though as they will want to serve some revenge of their own. A lot will depend on whether or not Kevin Reilly is back fit as the Limerick full-forward could run riot with Moyles at full-back.
Finally, I think too much is being made of Tyrone waltzing through Ulster. Mickey Harte has been here many times as have his players, they know what it takes, the lack of a proper challenge shouldn't hinder them too much.

I suspect we will get the "real" semis as it would have been without qualifiers.
