I think Tipp are building momentum and will beat Galway and Waterford. So I'm going for a Kilkenny V Tipp final with the Cats doing the five in a row.

I suppose you thought the dubs would beat us to sammy? I wreckon we can topple cork if we lift are game that step further, we do have a point to prove, in 2004 when antrim where coming close, we where annihalated by a cork team on a mission to make dinny eat his words, just need to BELIEVE!
Obviously cork are dead on favourites, but if this was the dubs theyd have a chance or clare, why cant we?

Because we do not believe, sorry to say, and against Antrim, Cork KNOW.
Now I once played for Queen's against a UCC team in the Fitzgibbon and lost 2-6 to 1-8 with a last minute goal for Cork and that is the closest I can ever remember any Antrim team getting close to Cork.
In 1990 when we had a good side we flopped against Cork, bar a brilliant goal from Ciaran Barr. I stopped drinking that week, having spent most of the week in Dublin bars.
2004 was the 2nd worst day ever in Croke, and had nothing to do with Dinny. He was actually right about Corcoran in my opinion, the man was but a shadow of the mighty centre half he once was.(the worst day was 1994 V limerick when we lay down and let Frankie Carroll insult us)
So I fully expect Cork to win, but it could be a good day out.

Re: All-Ireland Quarter Finals
Well Pat i happen to disagree with you, i believe that this team believes, how can they not believe after the great win last week?
Cast your mind to 1986 there pat, i was only 4 but brought up on stories of this game, 7-11 to 1-24 we where beat that day, cork won the final, they won it in 1990, the won it in 2004, now we have the chance to stop the trend, we have a young fast hard working team.
Im not asking for people to make antrim favourites or even waste 20 euro in the bookies but at least give them a chance that they would give to dublin or clare do you honestly think thats too much to ask?
Im not going for a good day out, i wasnt there for a good day out at any antrim game ive ever attended and id say ive attended 90% of games from a child, i dont believe this team is going for a good day out or to make up the numbers, we have a chance at least, the belief needs to be in the people behind the saffrons if we dont how can we expect the team ever to believe in themselves?
Although i do know where you are coming from! I would also disagree that 2004 was nothing to do with dinny, corcoran destroyed us along with a very good team but dinnys words must have been in there heads every time they went for a ball!

Did Antrim lose to Wexford by 3 points in the All Ireland Quarter Final in 2003? Was it something like 3-11 to 2-11. Wexford got a penalty which Damien Fitzhenry scored.

kilkenny waterford final. i think davy and his squad want another crack at the cats.
when you see a block like tony brownes the other day and see the passion pride and commitment, you wouldnt put any thing past a team managed by davy fitz,
but kilkenny are so strong they will probably annex this years title and have surpassed anything done by any gaa team ever 5 in a row only cork ladies are good for that!

no antrim should of had a penalty at the start of the game which they didn'y get and we got a "fortunate call" late in the game and Paul Codd buried the resulting 21 yard free.
Paul Codd in those days took the penalties fitzy only took over after he retired or when he faled to make the team initially.

Re: All-Ireland Quarter Finals
Cork will have too much for Antrim but nowhere near enough for Kilkenny
The Cork half back line despite a few miles on the clock still seems reasonably solid
Cadogan looks to have filled the Gap left by the Rock and has more pace. Naughton at midfield has been impressive but the forward unit looks very weak. Ben doesn't have the wing pace he had in his prime McCarthy, Murphy, Horgan have not shown that they are top flight material so far and Cussen at centre forward and O Halpin at 14 are akward at best.
Waterford I thought played above themselves against Cork and still barely scraped past a team with a non potent attacking unit and Waterford relied on timely goals from a a few old stagers.
Tipp Galway is the hard one to call -I still think Tipp can build from where they are and a performance that is 90% of last Septermbers will see them just edge Galway and
get past Waterford with less trouble
Kilkenny Tipp final - which the cats will win by five. Can't see any weakness. Keeper MoM last year Hickey and Tyrell on fire against Galway - Walsh best hurler in the country now for four or five years - midfield dominated against Galway
and then a choice from 9 or 10 scoring forwards the worst of which would walk on to any other team

Were Antrim looking for any extra motivation I wonder?
From todays Irish Examiner.......
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Remarkably, O hAilpín admits that he thought Antrim had been knocked out
of the qualifiers until being told of their success over Dublin as he
arrived in Thurles Saturday evening.
"I didn’t even know Antrim were still in the qualifiers. The last time I
heard of them they were unlucky to lose against Offaly and I thought
that was their involvement in the championship over.
"We were heading into Thurles and someone said Antrim had beaten Dublin
by a point. That came as a shock to me. They’ve beaten a good side
because I really rate Dublin.

Re: All-Ireland Quarter Finals
Firstly I still say that 2004 had nothing to do with Dinny for the simple reason that Cork DO NOT THINK about the like of Antrim. So they would not have been aware of what he allegedly said.
See above, Sean Og didn't even know Antrim were in the championship.
In 2003 Paul Codd scored a goal from the THIRD 21 yard free he hit in a 5 minute spell. As usual Antrim had a fear of winning and sat back waiting to be caught.
Wexford did not have a 21 yard free all day but then got 3 in a few minutes as we waited to be caught.
And Wexford then drew with Cork.
In 2002 Antrim led Tipp at half time but Tipp brought on subs like Lar Corbett and such, and Antrim had no bench.
Those games were what I meant when I posted before the Dublin game that Dinny can work wonders in the championship.
This Sunday oif Antrim were playing Clare, I would fancy Clare. The same with Limerick.
But we always think we can beat the Dubs, goes back to playing against them at primary school level.
Until we are playing against Cork and Kilkenny at primary school level, we can but dream.

Re: All-Ireland Quarter Finals
Apologies for not knowing who scored that penalty, i thought the question was simply did we lose by three to wexford!
I think though pat we are now on the verge of the dubs leaving us a stray and moving up to play the KKs and corks if they havent already done so at primary level.
If youve any sway in the county you could talk to your mates to tell them to get the under age teams out of the "B" championships and start boxing at a weight above ourselves so when these boys get to minor they are not hammered, we need our minors, u16s and u14s in leinster, i also believe an under 12 school of execellence similar to the one set up in camogie should be started ie 50 or 60 elite kids working with top coaches at county level playing against one another and maybe top club teams from cork, galway, tipp, kk, dublin etc. (i have no sway, too young i put it down too, or im too optimistic i like to think LOL)
These are my thoughts i dont like fighting or debating with a fellow county man, i do believe and i think this was a good young minor team coming of age, i think they too will believe we have a chance, i think too many people are like yourself too pat, this is just my belief that you are afraid to hope or believe as nine times out of ten we are let down in our county. For this week though i will believe.
I think sean og is foolish making this comment it should be on the dressing room wall come sunday as a reminder of what these counties think of antrim.

Hopefully Cork destroy Antrim as they seem intent on keeping hurling alive and therefore deserve to win.
I fancy Galway might sneak the other game.

They are the better side with the better hurlers and the greater tradition.

At least Winker vindicated my argument that in matters GAA he is the best forwardcin Ulster by a long shot, and Mcmanus is a serious talent.
Well done to the whole team. Let's be realistic, Cork beat Tipp by ten points and look where they are now.
congratulations to Cork

Re: All-Ireland Quarter Finals
I rarely watch Hurling but today's performance from Antrim was not bad for a team with an average age of 21. 3 of Antrims players are over 30. Experience is what got Cork through today and wouldn't be suprised to see Antrim making a serious impact on the All Ireland series in a few years.
Re: All-Ireland Quarter Finals
Cork 1-25
Antrim 0-19.
That scoreline does not do Antrim justice. The goal before half time was obviously the turning point. I thought it should have been a free out for two reasons:
1.Aisake's handpass didnt have a clear striking action.
2.McCarthy took a good few steps.
Antrim made silly mistakes which most of the time led to a point for Cork. Watson is some hurler if he kept the head.
Well done Antrim. Ye can be proud today.
Also I thought it was shocking that Pete Finnerity was talking about the semi final between Cork and Kilkenny 20 minutes before the match was over. Antrim were after bringing it back to five points.
