The Galway Races tips/thoughts/drink/gossip/fashion
I remember the good old days when myself and Bertie would be knocking back the bass in the gone but not forgotten Fianna Fáil tent. Now there was a man who knew how to run a country!!Mark my word people the sooner that tent returns to Ballybrit the sooner this country returns to the good times.
Deutschland will win the hurdle on ladies day. 7/1 now, take it!!
Royal County Star may be a good bet to bring loyal some success thats been a long long long time coming in Wednesdays plate.

Re: The Galway Races tips/thoughts/drink/gossip/fashion
The Plate looks a fairly poor renewal this year. Lots of exposed horses in the grip of the handicapper.
The Hurdle offers a bit more in excitement and lots of possible scenarios. Sitting near the bottom of the weights though is Stage Manager. Now this horse looks to be a plot for something. He won at Galway last year doing handstands. And in two subsequent runs he hasn't been sighted when ridden by Kenny Whelan in a hurdle on Keegan Latham on the flat. Now (I presume) he goes back to Galway thirteen pounds higher, if they put a Townend/Walsh/Russell on him then we know, if its Colgan/Whelan or any of the usual hold him up and drop away tamely jockey then, I'd be looking elsewhere. Possibly See U Bob could win for local jockey, Squeaky Cawley.

The big race tomorrow looks very hot. It is for amateurs too so one thing I will say is to give extra preference for the likes of Nina Carberry, Katie Walsh, Brian O'Connell and Derek O'Conner because you can be fairly sure when all the jockeying for position starts, these guys will be going forward at the right time.
At the minute, Truckers Delight is favourite but I would fancy Dreamy Gent for Jessie and Kate Harrington to finish in front of The Shark Hanlon's horse as he is five pounds better off for a two and a half length defeat the last day. Sophocles would be another which catches my eye, the memory of him almost running down Cork AllStar in a Champion Bumper is too good for him to be 16/1. When they meet the rising ground, the grey could be about to engage overdrive. Tony Martin is always to be feared in these races and his horse, Equator will relish the soft ground and any horse from this stable that creeps in just missing the ballot by one or two horses command respect. Ghimaar looks to give Dermot Weld a third victory in this race in as many races and whilst his form figures don't look great, he has been running in good races. Still top weight round Galway is a hard feat. Nina, as ever will be popular but I've never seen Noel Meade so out of form and her horse, Fisher Bridge is probably better when there are hurdles to be jumped.
I'm going for Sophocles on this specalist type of track. The hill will sort out most of the field but not Sophocles who I expect will relish the ground too.

Nina will win the bumper tomorrow with Noel Meades one. Leaning towards Trucker delight for the big one tomorrow and if he runs will his price will collapse for the Hurdle on Thursday so thinking of backing him for that tomorrow as well. Tarkari will get us off to a good start tomorrow under Ruby and Weld has one set up for us in the 3rd race Stunning View, he simply cannot be opposed in 2yo races at Ballybrit! Think it will be a day for favourites tomorrow, although if the rain comes down heavy here overnight as its threatening to this theory might go out the window.

Tips are flying all over the place, so far I've been told that Indian Pace and Raajik both cant lose the amateurs tonight so lump on the dead heat. Apparanty they havn't a notion of running Indain Pace on the Thursday and he's laid out for this although I wouldn't be entirely convinced by this myself. Got a strong work for Wikaala in the opener though.

County Kilkenny and County Kerry draw first blood!
Whats new, I hear you say? Jockey from Tralee, Trainer from Callan!
Could it be a sign of things to come in the football and hurling worlds?

Galway thread is very quiet.

Weld is as crooked as anyone. Not sighted in five races and skates in off top weight (in soft ground) in one of Ireland's best staying flat handicaps and now they're talking about an Ebor. Noel O'Brien is worse, dropping this worse 4lbs from his last run at The Curragh, the cunts should be getting more weight for blatant non-trying.
The usual crawl in your average Irish race too along with a few out to stretch their legs, Truckers Delight and Indian Pace.

No it was the race worth the most money and the most prestigious race of the day.

Re: The Galway Races tips/thoughts/drink/gossip/fashion
Forget about it to-day lads. Its been pissing down from the heavens all night and all day and doesn't look like stopping anytime soon. The ground will be gone to fook. Look maybe at stone-wall mudlarks well down in the hanicap, its a day for shocks I'd say.
Had Bertie in the pub again last night, entertaining a delightful blonde. Despite suffering somewhat from a cold he still had a word for everyone and was looking dapper as ever in a light grey casual suit. Sadly for Bertie theres no Bass in Galway but did the greatest Taoiseach in history allow this to de-rail his evening? Not one little bit, he simply furrowed his brow and surveying the options before him at the bar he soon elected for Denmarks finest, a pint of Carlsberg. What a man. Legend.
The ladies are up against it tonight with the weather but I did notice that their hats appear to be getting smaller year by year. Certain ladies I know myself, their heads tend to be getting bigger every year so Im not quite sure how long this trend can continue.

No doubt ye all took my advice at the start of this thread and went out and backed Deutschland @ 7/1. 5/2 now. Buoy George will come in also in the 6.15

The OBrien team does it again, pace setter setting it up for the favourite. Didnt he get a fine for doing that at Goodwood this time last year?

hear Ted Wlashe tipping it last week as well, just because there is a serious gamble for him does not mean he will win. Certainly will be hard to beat but i would back Floods mount no3 each way for a bit of value.

No it was at York's Ebor meeting.
There is nothing wrong with a pacemaker, it ensures a good even pace and normally the best horse wins. When there are no pacemakers, you get strange results and stop-start gallops.
The problem is when the pacemakers job is done, moving off the rails and blocking other horses' runs. I wouldn't have a problem with a pacemaker allowing his stablemate up the rails, that is race-riding. But it does cause problems when its going backways and causes all sorts of traffic problems.

Re: The Galway Races tips/thoughts/drink/gossip/fashion
Horse racing is not meant to be a team sport, i would love to see only one horse allowed in a race per trainer. Watching OBriens horses sometimes is like watching Mark Cavindishs team mates leading him to 100 yards out then moving out of the way to let him go for it. I would say in nearly every one of his group 1 winners last year OBrien had a pace setter in each. Dont get me wrong any trainer would do the same if he could just shows that not every horse is there to try and win which they should be doing.

You get pace makers in flat racing only. Flat racing is more of a business then a sport and Coolmore are the greatest exponents of this fact.
