big time he has really stepped up this year. kildare have scored 18 points from play and they will not win this. free to the dubs and its game over.
dublin will win, they will be delighted with this game and have gone the entire championship without conceding a goal!!!!

Re: Dublin vs Kildare
greeat game really was. b.brogan has been brilliant 0.07 scored. kildare are unlucky but the dubs look very good and seem to have stepped up there game this year and have a very good bench to call on when needed.

Re: Dublin vs Kildare
Just the test Dublin needed, a good tough game which they've been lacking in Leinster the last few years. Will be interesting to see who they will get in the quarter final and how they get on. Tough on Kildare, but that's great experience for them and they'll be a tough proposition in the qualifiers for anyone.

Kildare have definitely taken a step up. They are more than capable of taking on any other team that are in the qualifiers and beating them. Leinster football needs this and so did Dublin. It wasnt as clear cut as some Dubs seem to have thought. Give it another season and Dublins grip on Leinster will have been broken.
Experience seperated these two teams today.
Congratulations to Dublin a hard fought win. Kildare's season is not over yet and far from it.
Re: Dublin vs Kildare
i think you both right there lads i think the dubs will be very happy with this an aslong as they dont get kerry in the 1/4 then i think they will go far. kildare have improved no end on last year but they started to revert back to there old ways with about 20 mins to go and this ill need to be worked on, maybe they ran out of steam but there intensity dropped which dublin then capitalised on. they will come on from this too and will be tough for who ever gets them. they have 2 weeks to prepare and will play a team who has layed 3 games in 3 weeks so will have a big shot at a 1/4 final place.,
the Gaa needed this weekend, some great games no big incidents bar breannan who i hope accepts his punishment without any fuss. the champioship is ON!!

Re: Dublin vs Kildare
Well what a great weekend for the football c'ship. Great game yesterday and a belter today - and one from Ger Brennan! To get that incident out of the way - the guy is a liability and could and should have cost his team mates the Leinster title. You will not see him in the starting 15 again this season.
As predicted Dublin came roaring out of the blocks with 1-3 on the board before Kildare blinked. But McGeeney's influence was apparent as they dug in and responded well - helped by Brennan's madness.
It was a titanic battle and the atmosphere was brilliant. Dublin's second half perfromance was excellent - outscoring the Lilies by 10 to 6 points. The defence was superb - Cullen was super as were all the other lads and their intelligence in the last 10 won the game when they carried the ball from defence to engineer the vital scores. Whelan made a massive difference too and when push came to shove Bernard Brogan stood up to the plate in a big big way.
Things to work on? Dublin were firing to much high ball in to Jayo when his man had 12 inches above him. They also turned over a huge amount of ball in the middle third - Kildare are excellent at this and Dublin should not have been messing about in this area - something they really need to look at. It was very difficult to get quality ball in to the forwards with the extra man sweeping between CHB and midfield.
But it was a thoroughly enjoyable game with some amazing points - Kildare's first or second and their second last were excellent while Dublin too hit some crackers. Good luck to Kildare in the qualifiers - they are a serious outfit and today will have been very good for them.

Re: Dublin vs Kildare
When they see the Sunday Game tonight Kildare will be kicking themselves.
So much wasted possession, passing to men standing still, passes behind men, needlessly taking the ball into contact. If they had moved the ball faster they had the beating of Dublin. So many times they got out to middle of the field, and fell into the trap of playing 10-15 yards hand passes in a small triangle. That said, Dublin defended with an intensity that I haven't seen from them before, and when Kildare dallied on the ball, they were severely punished.
On the other hand, it was great the see Bernard Brogan step up to the plate today, he's shown glimpses of his potential for a year or two now, and today he demonstrated the he could become an all-time great for Dublin.

Re: Dublin vs Kildare
B&W - I think Dublin opted to concede the space to Kildare as far as midfield cos they were playing the extra man near CHB so the front men could not close down the ball and then Dublin opted to take man for man in their own half and it worked very well pressing the man in possession and the space.
I also think Dublin need a bit of work in exactly this department. When they kicked early accurate foot passes in they were unstoppable - but then they stopped doing it!! Also the one time the forwards pulled their men away from the guy carrying the ball through (as I told them to last week ) - Barry Cahill scored a gem!! They have plenty to work on there but thats not a bad thing!

Still looking for reassurance from the rest of the country then? When God gave chips on the shoulders of the Ulster lads, he certainly kept a few aside for the Dubs.

Stuck on training at work all week.... no laptops
all the talk over lunch was about the Dubs. People are giving them a lot more credit for yesterday than for the semi-final mauling of Westmeath.
Just a thought, yesterday was the first Leinster Final in a few years where Dublin were given a tough match. Could this be the little bump that pushes them on further than in previous years?

Re: Dublin vs Kildare
Well for the first of the quintet we fell over Laois by a point but no doubt yesterday's was the sweetest of the five. I think things have changed hugely this year for Dublin. Kildare's competitiveness is welcome alright but remember there is a new management team in operation and their stamp can be seen all over the team. The style of play is more mixed - mostly direct (and in keeping with Dublin traditions), discipline (Brennan aside) is excellent and all the BS of the previous management is gone - thank God. In Gilroy you have a new face, a direct no-nonsense chap who commands respect and hides behind nothing. He is aided and abetted by the wiley Mickey Whelan who has done it all before and has tasted All Ireland club success. It seems to be a good mix so far. And whatever they have done in terms of mental preparation seems to be going well too.
Most importantly is the emergence of new players - the maturing of the Brogans - especially B, Keaney's new found interest, Jayos continued class and the fact that the bench is laden with experience and no little class. So far so good!

Re: Dublin vs Kildare
have to say that was some game yesterday, its been a while since i knawed the nail's off myself at a lenster game. taught we where gonna have a repeat of the minor match. ger brennen's a feckin ejit, no need for what he did and could have costsz us our 5 in a row. far play for gilroy for reacting so fast to it, by taking connelly off. if that was piller, he only change the plan with ten minutes to go. can really see a difference now between the past two seasons, with a lot of positives

Re: Dublin vs Kildare
First things first, welcome back Lino, you were sorely missed.
Secondly, I thought the Dublin v Kildare match was one of the best matches I have seen involving Dublin in years but unlike the drawn game v Tyrone, the drawn game v Meath and the Dublin v Mayo game, the Dublin management made changes when they were needed, the team did not panic and when they needed someone to stand tall and be counted Griffin, Cahill and B Brogan stepped up.
No-one will want to draw Kildare in the qualifiers. They really asked a lot of questions of Dublin. There's not many teams that score 18 points in a match and get beaten (though to digress a little, Monaghan scored 20 against Derry and lost) and the experience from yesterday will stand to them. Earlier on in the championship, I commented on Kildare v Offaly and Laois where they raced into early leads in games and then took their foot off the gas and let teams come at them and for me the fact that they didn't do that against Dublin may have contributed to their downfall. If they went at Dublin like they did against Offaly and Laois, would they have gone on to win?
Shoulda woulda coulda I know but well done to both teams on serving up one of the best games of the championship so far. (I wont say with certainty that it was better than Monaghan v Derry on Saturday as I didn't see it and dont want to incur any further wrath

Dublin vs Kildare
its great to see that dublin arnt already planning for the all-ireland by now. its usually 1. beat meath 2. win leinster and 3. win the all ireland. i think through gilroy they are finaly seeing that they have to win all there games to get to the final.
Will we see an invasion of the hill this year? i personaly doubt it i think gilroy would just go to the other end to warm up!!
Great game rich started a topic about the game to kick start the championship and i tink this was it!!
Sligo will carry on by beating kerry on saturday by 4 points
