Player dies during hurling training in London
11 April 2012

London and Galway GAA are mourning Cathal Forde, who passed away while training with his club Kilburn Gaels last night.

The native of Gort had been in the English capital where he works as a site engineer and was taking part in a hurling session in Highgate when he collapsed, reports the Irish Post.

The 28-year-old, who won a London SHC with the club two years ago, was pronounced dead after being brought by ambulance to Whittington Hospital.

Interesting to see the St Vincents Luton tweet, looks like the player boom has missed that area and we may have one team less in the UK for 2012! Not good!

St Gabriel’s, one of London’s top hurling clubs, had their 74-year-old chairman to thank for a stunning league victory at the weekend.

The club’s intermediate team were 2-10 to 2-7 winners over Thomas McCurtains on Sunday with corner-forward, and pensioner, Kerril Burke hitting the decisive goal.

Burke, who has six London SHC titles under his belt from his playing days, was called upon as the team needed to start the second-half with the full compliment of 15 to avoid forfeiting the game.

Burke obliged and did more than just make up the numbers, hitting the crucial goal.

"I just happened to be in the right place at the right time and put the ball in the net," he said.

Burke couldn’t recall the last time he lined out, admitting: "It’s so long ago I can’t remember".

After Sunday’s heroics, it will surely be difficult for management to ignore his claims for a starting place.

"Will I play again? Quite possibly. I’d never say never. I have warned some of the senior players to watch their backs. Nobody’s place is safe!"

Should be a good marker for the championship Puke, 2 best sides in Warks for the past 2 seasons. Barnabas for me!

Having played most sides this year so far it looks as though it is between them two alright, although a full strength Erin Go Bragh will give either of them plenty of it. Barnabas haven't had a game in 4 weeks which might count against them

EGB have been knocking the door for the last few years, they just seem to be a little short on each occassion. Would like to see them win something this year.

As for Barnies and Macs, fisticuffs near the end that Barnies took offense to and walked off the pitch. Not sure who was leading though.

Not a lot Puke, only that they play in the Warks "league" and the Fullen lads are still allowed to play or Warks in the NHL and Championship. How are they getting on? Have Yorkshire got a County hurling team now?

A GAA club football match in the UK had to be cancelled after a mass brawl erupted near the end of the game.

Two of Warwickshire's biggest clubs Sean McDermott's and St Barnabas were playing in the senior football league when with just two minutes remaining an off-the-ball incident resulted in players from both sets become involved.

The row lasted a number of minutes before order was restored, but the St Barnabas management team called their players off the field and the game was subsequently abandoned.

An investigation has been launched into the incident and there are set to be heavy suspensions handed out to players from both teams.

Am i right in thinking that this is the second time in 2 seasons that a league match between these two has been abandoned due to fisticuffs?

Warks board will likely go easy on them as they are the top 2 sides in the county, be that fair or not!

I believe it was Casements v McDermott's that there was a similar incident last year. A lot of clubs in Warks unhappy about this and I wouldn't be surprised to see action being taken.

What happened at the meeting on Monday night, did they discuss it there? They should definately do something as this kind of thing is getting very common in Warks, and with McDermotts in particular having a bad reputation.

I am actually signed on with Yorkshire Emeralds, but am unable to commit to the commute to Leeds following changes in circumstances.

They formed around two years ago.
