Will Galway bate Mayo???

Agree with today's performance, though Howley played him well. Galway's inability to win primary possesion at m/f cost them the game.
I'm still convinced though that Joyce is the best 40 man around. The summer isn't over yet.
BTW, he's no Sean Purcell, who would have wrestled this match Galway's way off the 40.

Could be tough, could be a cakewalk, such is the wonder of Donegal Boxty! Their great win over Derry could spur them on something serious, or they could go back to their inconsistent ways. How will Galway react after today's loss? But I do think it'll be a tight game either way.

Donegal won't cop[e with Galway's fluency (if they get it going).
Porter, and it's ingestion levels, could square this one.
On a related topic, ol' Boxty is fairly high as we speak, having witnesses Junior Boxty 1 return to the shirt (6) after 8 years of assin' around.
At 35, it proves the point, class is permanent.....

lets hope that John Bannon does not receive another game for the rest of the season. every game from here on in is very important to every county involved and Bannon has a habit of costing teams the game. he very nearly done it yesterday to Mayo. the free count was beyond funny! Galway 35 frees, Mayo 19 and yellow cards aswell Galway 2, Mayo 6. that is an absoloute joke. if you watch the game back again you will see that it was Galway who were by far and away the dirtier team. Bergin and Meehan did their best to break McGarrity's jaw (especially Meehan, dirty b**tard!)
thankfully tho the better team came through and after seeing the draw for the 4th round qualifiers there is no team left that Mayo are going to fear. we have somewhat of an Indian Sign over Tyrone, Cork are beatable and we have shown before that there is nothing to fear with The Dubs.
COME ON MAYO!

Your good friend Jayo C here in Dublin. Now as you know I don't ask for much (the odd Lotto win here and there - which, by the way you have not yet delivered!) but I have one special request that you might get working on!
Please please please let the Dubs get to the semis and, an even harder task for you, let Mayo get there too.
Its all I ask! Cheers

Hey JC. I asked this on the chat board last night and don't know if you answered. Do Dublin people really care about Mayo? I always though that the fuss over that result was pretty much one way. Is your desire for another go influenced by the colourful Mayo posters that exist on tinternet or do you think the Dublin team really feel sore about that one?

I'd say there would be no motivating for that one RMD. In my opinion that game was left behind on the line that day - some shocking decisions made and substitutions and switches when there was no need! I imagine most of the lads would love another cut at Mayo - some of them probably got earache listening to Mort in DCU after. I would have no fear whatsoever of Mayo and no way would Gilroy and Whelan fall for the things the previous management did.
On a personal level I would love to put the record straight! Nothing against Swinny but some others who harp on about it despite what happened next!

Dublin will never beat Mayo just like Kerry will never Tyrone and Tyrone will never Meath. Its a mental thing.

Galway are in an ideal scenario now. They'll know themselves they under-performed there yesterday but still only lost by a point, and are now faced with a handy enough tie next week to get them up and running again, build up a bit of steam going into the QFs. Congrats to Mayo, even though they were fouling for Ireland and were lucky not to have a couple sent off, I'd say most will agree that they join Galway now as Tyrones biggest challengers. All the momentum is with Galway now though, another Connacht medal would have meant little or nothing to these boys, their eyes are firmly focused on the bigger picture.
By the way what an occasion it was out there in Salthill yesterday, the buzz, the atmosphere, the craic, all so fooking electric. Ye hav'nt lived until ye've been to a Connacht Final! I do feel sorry for people who are not from this part of the world, I really do!

Big mistake Mossy, don't under estimate Donegal, I have a premonition that Donegal will clean you out in Midfield and take advantage of your poor defence. You won't be able to handle Murphy and Mc Fadden. Meehan had a bad day at the office on Sunday, I think he could have two running when he comes up against the Mc Gee's and Lacey.
As for Galway being Tyrones biggest rival...I hope you are having a laugh?! Dublin Mayo and Cork are all ahead of Galway in this respect. Galway won't get near an AI final this year. Also, how is the momentum with Galway?

Ah I've been to several Connaught finals at this stage Moss and enjoyed every one of them. I was actually just saying to a Galway lad at lunch there that it's amazing how there can still be such an intense rivalry after all these years. You'd think it would have lost some of it's edge given that it's a fairly regular occurence - especially with the advent of the back door - but people still get well worked up for it.

What is it like then? Do you pay money at the gate or is it live animals - 2 chickens for a family of 4 kind of thing? Is it true they take the string of the pants going in too? I'd love to go. Is there somewhere a city person could stand - like a safe distance - and admire the rawness and baudiness of the uncouth occasion? Would participation in the bull run in Pamplona be safer? Do they supply those ref mike things with translations so you can understand what the fans are saying? Sounds like something you'd have to experience alright ......

hahahahaha, that is all that can really be said about that Mossbags.
1. Galway are no more Tyrone's biggest rivals than Antrim/Wicklow are their biggest rivals.
2. Galway were doing far more fouling than Mayo yesterday, Bannon just decided he was only going to watch the Mayo lads. right infront of me i say P.Joyce drag Howley to the ground and put his knee in his back and as for Meehan! he was throwing punches at McGarrity every time he came near him and he flattened Ger Caff off the ball at least twice(once was right infront of the linesman) Meehan even refused to shake Caff's hand after the match cause he knew that he had been well beaten by the young full back and that all he could do was foul.
3.Galway have no momentum with them. they did not 'underperform' against Mayo yesterday, that was Galway at their best for 2009. they cannot perform any better than that ebcause they are not as good as they were being made out to be before the match! Donegal have a good run behind them and seem to have gotten over the Antrim defeat and are now aiming for a 1/4 final at least in 2009.
4.Joe Bergin and Nicky Joyce were on their knees in tears after the match yesterday. try telling those guys that another COnnaught medal meant nothing to them. it meant another trophy in the cabinet aswell as a guaranteed 1.4 place which they might not even get now.
5.the atmosphere in Salthill yesterday......non-existant until the beginning of the second half. compared to many other Mayo-Galway games that I have been to there was no atmosphere at all. McHale Park is the much better of the two stadiums for atmosphere in a Mayo-Galway game.
Maigh Eo ABU!

your probably right there Jayo, Gilroy and Whealan probably wouldnt make the same mistakes on the day as Caffery did in 2006. however, we would still be confidant of beating Dublin if we come up against them. just as the Dubs would be of beating Mayo. it would probably end up being game of the year again.
I understand about the other Mayo posters who i think your thinking about. certian ones gave the rest of us a bad name. thankfully they aint around these parts anymore.
PS: Don't mention September 2004/2006. as far as we are concerned both seasons ended after we beat Tyrone(04) and Dublin(06) in August. we need to get the All-Ireland final changed to August so we can win it again
