Will Galway bate Mayo???
Re: Galway v Mayo, Connacht Final 2009, Toughts, rumours, speculation, predictions, general slagging thread!
All to do in the football Mossbags, though the hurlers look a good thing at this stage.

no doubts at all in the minds of Mayo people who is going to come out on top this weekend. discounting previous matches played by both teams in this years championship Mayo still have the better all round team. Galway are relying on 3 players who usually dont do the business against Mayo. Meehan is going to be beaten for pace by Higgins and kept in Higgins' pocket for the whole game. Joyce is gonna be kept quiet by the huge workrate of Howley and Armstrong doesnt play well unless at least one of Joyce/Meehan plays well also. O'Shea and Dillon will do all the damage up front and Mayo will run out winners in the end. probably will only be a point or two in it as there always is in Mayo-Galway games regardless of how their form is leading into the game.
By the way lads, we know full well how to get to Salthill but it'll be ye thats looking for the quickest way out after the game!
COME ON MAYO!!!!!

It would make my year Boxty if we could put one over our nearest and dearest neighbours Clare and Mayo while at the same time taking out the odious scourge that is the Cork hurling team all in the space of but a week. I fully expect we'll bate Mayo. Their fooling a lot of people for a team whose greatest achievement in the last two years is scoring a facile win over the worst Roscummon side that I can remember. If your boys had Mulligan on board in Carraig ye would have hockeyed them too.

Easy victory for Mayo "Dem Galway B*astards" as the lads in Mayo call them, have a soft underbelly that I think will be exposed this weekend. I'd say it will be a good game and I'm disappointed that I won't be around to se it. Best of luck to both teams.

Thats the stuff Swinford. At least your still fighting the good fight whilest other Mayo posters have gone running for the hills. I hope to God your analysis is wrong though. I'll be heading to Salthill with a gang which will include a couple of red and green jerseys and if your lot do manage to create a shock the slaggings gonna be unbearable! Might have to end up running for the hills myself
No fear of that happenning though as this will be handy enough for a Galway side which includes players with experience of winning All-Irelands. How many such players do ye have again??

Mayo (SF v Galway): K O'Malley; L O'Malley, G Cafferkey, K Higgins;
P Gardiner, T Howley, A Moran; D Heaney, R McGarrity; P Harte, T
Mortimer (captain), A Dillon; A Kilcoyne, B Moran, A O'Shea.
Proof that they cant throw punches for shti in Mayo if McGarrity can recover from a 'broken jaw' in the space of two weeks. Otherwise a sign of desperation that they need to include him in the team, being as reliant on one player as they are.

Just one day to go to the game of the year.
Word is Mayo shot their load against lowly Roscommon and would now be considered a softish enough target. Hope PJ and Meehan dont go too hard on the Mayo lads although 3 chship victories in a row over our dearest neighbours would indeed be nice

Told ye Mayo would win, Galway were lucky to pull back the draw, they were the 2nd best team the entire game, Meehan was well under par. Great performance from Trevor Mort.

What did Meehan score apart from the goal? Raging Mayo got the winner, wanted a draw or Galway! But Mayo were the better team overall.

Poor game, Mayo should've won it pulling up instead of snatching it at the death!
No one will fear either of these teams in the next round.
Speaking of which, when is the 4th round draw on? TV3 didn't show it!

Did The Mort's t-shirt say "RIP Michael Jackson"?
I didn't realise the King of Pop was such a popular figure that side of the Shannon.

I thought bar Nicky Joyce Michael Meehan was about the best we had out there (that may have been our problem!), he did a good bit of work setting others up. All round a very poor display from us though. Don't get me wrong my head nearly went through the roof when Meehan scored at the death but we didn't deserve the draw on that display so a fair result in the end. Good luck to Mayo, hopefully we get to meet again this year as the atmosphere came over as electric in Pearse today.

Whats the chances that Mossbags will try to defect away from the fact that Galway were stone useless by going on about what a great Connaught final it was. Savour this small victory, Mossy, you deserve it.
But you still aren't a patch on the Leinster lads.

WAHOO!!! come on Mayo!
Might not have been the prettiest of games and we may have nearly thrown it away by 'Farting About' with the ball when we had no right to. the better team came through and won the match tho and showing the strength to go on and win the match after throwing away a 7 point lead (something the Dubs couldnt do 3 years ago )
Bring on any team in the 1/4 finals. iv a damn good feeling about Mayo this year. Could finally be the one :-)

15 years on from our famous victory over Mayo in the Hyde, I must confess that this was, by any extent of the imagination, a poor Connacht final.
Unbelievably, Trevor Mortimer DID play well, winning ugly ball and moving it on at pace. Padraig Joyce largely anonymous, Armstrong below par and only for Nicky Joyce Galway would'a been routed.
On the other hand, the Mayo 8 (5-12) worked like donkeys and brought home the bacon.
Definitely not contenders though, while Galway may regroup.......

I still have to say, I'd consider Galway a bigger threat later on down the line to be honest. But they've a tough draw against Donegal so mightn't get far enough. Don't think Mayo will be able to put it up to the top few teams this year when it comes to the crunch. A Mayo-Dublin match would be most interesting!

id well believe it Jayo and its the match most Mayo people want again. we want to show the country that 2006 was not a flash in the pan, so to speak. I dont know what yer all saying that Galway are going to be a bigger threat further down the line. Mayo had far more passion today for the win and had more performers around the field. Galway had N.Joyce and possible Bergin (who was lucky to stay on the field) were used to being written off and id be delighted if ye kept writing us off cause Mayo love being the underdog and we will show ye.
Semi-Final at least and I truly believe that this is finally our year
