Re: Galway v Mayo, Connacht Final 2009, Toughts, rumours, speculation, predictions, general slagging thread!
if mcgarrity is out this will help galway no-end, i think galway will win this as mayo will be going around now as always thinking there great no chance will galway think this and mayo wont have learnt anything from the last day, i mean id say there training matches where better, galway to win by a couple of points!

Too right Rich, sure talking to the Mayos here in Galway city and this game is a mere formality according to them on their way to picking up Sam in September and half the players would be on the same wave-length. Mayo thrashing useless Roscommon is the worst thing that could have happened to them. Typical as well that un-cultured savages from the bogs in Mayo would take out their best player MacGarrity just before the Connacht Final.

Ah I dunno really Moss - but I have a sneaky suspicion for Mayo - something I rarely have. Impossible to judge them on NY/Ros games but they seem to be motoring well and pulled a fast one on the Tribes in the League - in a game which you would've expected Galway to win - and progress to the league final. Hence my leaning for Mayo .......

Fair enough Jayo, wouldn't mind the league match too much, Meehan missed a peno just before half time that would have put us out of sight but Mayo did come back well in fairness to them. My major worry here would be the young O Shea. Looks like the business so far and if Mayo are to develop into a serious outfit it will be players like him that prove the difference. O Mahoneys under serious pressure to win this game, a loss here and unless they'd somehow manage to win the all-ireland via the qualifier route(something thats not going to happen) and JOMs out the door and Mayo will be set back another 3 or 4 years. Galway wouldn't be under the same pressure but will know they need to put in a massive performane to underline exactly where they themselves feel they are at and should have the batin' of the red and green Sunday week

Just because ye got to within 6 points of them!!!!!!!!!
Mr Cluxton sir may I point out that Galway are now part of us in Leinster that if they win will that mean two teams from Leinster will have won provinical honours in football at the senior grade in the same year.
Can i ask the question has any other province attained this feat since the organisation of the calender year (Ie when the got off there asses and decided to play the championship in one year rather than 2/3 back 100 odd years ago).
so now this year the role of honour could read in senior football
Leinster 2
Ulster 1
Munster 1
Could that put Leinster back on top again??????????
I thought Leinster was already on top?
If it's not then it will be in a few years. Leinister waxing, Ulster Waning, Connaught and Munster the same as ever.

Mossbags - love that link of Joe Mc singing the West's Awake and especially the narrator at the start when he says 'After years of trying, Galway struck lucky....' - and you told us it was skill!!!

even with McGarrity missing from the Galway game Mayo will still win. to beat Galway all you have to do is keep Joyce and Meehan quiet. when them two are quiet, and Higgins & Heaney never fail to keep them that way, then Armstrong does not have a good game. he feeds off their ball.
Mayo to win by 3 and for me to be on here showing Mossbags how to gloat properly

Its great to see such a novel pairing in the Connaught final!!! My sources tell me this will only be about the 40th meeting of Galway and Mayo in the final in the last 100 years or so!!

Also remember there are flip down seats in Pearse stadium not the benches like in McHale Park so be careful.

Short of bringing home countless All-Irelands in both codes, this weekend sees what will go down as one if Galways most glorious spells in the annulls of GAA history when the all powerful Galway footballers record yet another famous victory over their aincent foes of Mayo, having watched on as their brothers in arms the noble Galway hurlers have already laid waste to the mire that is Clare and the corrupt and dis-credited malaise that is Cork.
