Fair point Old lad, saying that, we have our fair share of "ticket men" over here too and they wind me up a right feckin treat. Holding down positions on boards, not doing any wrk then sticking their hands out at the end of the year looking for a pair of tickets! Winds me up a right treat!!!

Jim, is that reduced if the club is only football or only hurling.
Our club have 2 Premium level tickets 10-year tickets that we bought ourselves. We raffle them off every year as a fundraiser.
After that we get 2 tickets a year that are put into two draw. One for players only, and one for other members of the club.
The county board rep gets his ticket as well.
If there are another two tickets coming in somewhere the executive have done one hell of a job hiding them!
Not to sure on that one but I can find out easy enough. You are saying that football/hurling only club gets 3 compared to 5 for a dual club.
The season ticket the boys are taking about €75 I think itis caters for championship games as well up to 1/4 final stage I think. Yon also got supporter club tickets as well these can guarentee up to final stage as well.
The amount of surplus tickets guiness has is unbelievable up till two years ago we had our choice of where we wanted to sit nearly due to a girl from the area working there.

Re: ticket allocation
This is a tough question. I have a good friend here in Mayo and he's been to every single AI football final since 96. He goes to all of Mayo's games (including the NY and London games) and would regularly travel with me to Donegal games. He's not a member of a club.
Is it wrong for him to go to the AI finals? He's a reall GAA man but he's taking a seat from someone else.

Who define a real GAA man, doesn't he attend all the MAyo games maybe he had arun in with his club, maybe his kids aren't invovled or playing million reasons for someone not to be attached to a club. Maybe Mayo are his club, chances are if hes that intersted he goes to club matches as well

After 96X2, 97, 04 and 06, I'd have thought he'd have had enough All-Ireland finals to last any man a lifetime.

I think you've taken me up wrong there Jim. I know exactly this man's involvement in the GAA (he's a really good mate) and the reason I put this point forward was to show the other side of the story.
I think most people will agree that my mate deserves to go to the AI, but then it's also understandable how people who cannot get a ticket when their county is playing would be annoyed.

Re: ticket allocation
A couple of anecdotal stories regarding A/i Finals.
My Croke Park debut was in 1956 when Leitrim contested the Minor final. My late father RIP had the sense to procure a ticket (Old Cusack) and apart from the result all was fine.
We attended via the same system (1 ticket ) in '57 but arrived ticketless in '58 having travelled the day before in a Morris 8 filled with turf for my aunts. We approached the stiles about 1.15 to find them closed and an extraordinary crowd massing outside.
It must be added at this juncture that Dublin (Foleys' Wilson, Freaney, Heffo, Timmons') et al were opposing the Derry team of O'Connell, Gribbens, McKeever etc. and for once, and because it was early, 'twas the Derry fans that were seeking admission-Dubs in the Red Parrott and all that. Suffice to say the gates were tumbled and I was "surfed" around until the mayhem abated.
For the majority of my life I've held a behind the scenes role with both Leitrim and the Connacht Council and should I need a ticket I can raise the issue in good time.
More recently, a junior Boxty has succeded in securing gainful employment with the owners of a Corporate Box- a feckin corporate box ( and on 2 occasions in the past 5/6 years I've availed of this facility.
On a lighter note, I had no real interest in the Hurling Final of 1988 even though Galway were involved until a call to our local on Sat night from a pal (Garda) in Carrick (Galwegian) with the words "pick you up in the morning around 10.30 bring your canvassing overcoat".
Off we went (4 on board now) a few scoops near Croker, no mention of tickets 'till he says, "coats on lads" and off we went.
He charges to a stile with the phrase "Special Branch - pickpockets about" - these men are with me, flashes the real Garda badge and all is hunky-dory.
On a sad note, the same guy died at 34 about 4 years later in the space of 4/5 weeks with pancreatic cancer.
I think I'll write a memoir like my late neighbour John McGahern.

Class stuff Boxty! Reminds me of a little tale - I had no ticket for the Ireland-England rugby first in Croker but found myself in a certain prominent politicians entourage sweeping thru the gates unopposed. Blagging is alive and well!
