ticket allocation
This is something clash touched on yesterday something i have been thinkang about and have mentioned before but would be very interested to here your views and ideas. clowns how never go to club games rarely or never go to county arriving into croke park on the first or third sunday in september more often than not into the best of seats and at some poor souls loss so club person who has an interest in gaa every week and know what they are talking about. how do we stop these people loosing out at the genuine fans expense. every year i would have the chance to go to an all ireland both if i wanted to i eather take the tickets find someone deserve maybe someone living local both from one of the competing teams or refuse and give my 2 pence about why they should go to a genuine supporter in a competing county hoping that when wexford are in an all ireland (some september soon i hope) that some decent skin in kerry or tyrone kilkenny mayo might refuse just like me and them tickets might cross my path for doing the right thing in the years previous. but how do we stop this what system of ticket allocation can we use!! Any views

Re: ticket allocation
I'd say if you did a poll on this forum you'd find a good few people who regularly go to AI finals irrespective of whether their county is playing or now. I know that a similar question on another forum showed that many people go every year.
I'm not one of them BTW.

Re: ticket allocation
Unfortunately some of us that are living overseas cannot get to all the Championship game due to being involved with the game over in our adopted areas. I do a lot of work promoting the GAA over here and i for one do not feel guilty for taking the allocation of tickets i receive for all GAA games in Croker.

Re: ticket allocation
Yea RMD is correct we would have at least 10 boys that go to the football AI every year and have done for longer than I'm on this planet. Only really since the 90's that tickets are hard to come by but still last year I would of picked up tickets for the football no problem but the hurling was differnet as you had every bla head looking for one and directions to dublin as well.
depending on what counties are invovled KK v Cork AI usually hard to get due to Cork, KK v Tipp usually easier to get your hands on.
Once the duds are out its generally fairly eay to get football tickets.
Most people I would say don't realise how easy it is to get tickets.
all you have to do is put in request to your club/county board and they are obligied to hold one for you if there is an excess demand its generally done on a first come first served system.
Point of note if you are looking for tickets outside your own province gewnerally want to allow 2 weeks on account of different councils Munster Leinster Ulster connaught.
Sure didn't they want to sexy it up and now all them women folk ( as if they know a sioltar from a football) are all going along and taking us mens seats--only a joke girls bt really ye should be giving up your seats for us i'd go so far as saying ye should buy them pack the lunch and look after the kids and let us have about 3 days for each game and whose idea was it to give them the vote etc

Re: ticket allocation
In my opinion, women should be made to pay double the price for a ticket. Every game, I go to, I see women more worried about whether or not its going to rain in case their make-up runs rather than watching the game. This is scandalous, they have no interest in the game taking place. Genuine GAA people can't get their hands on tickets but yet most women who go to games don't even know what GAA stands for.

Re: ticket allocation
Jim - you seem to have no bother getting tickets - wish i could say the same. Every year you go looking for tickets there is a big deal made of it. And i am not just on about the years Tyrone were in the final. I remember looking tickets for the 06 final and was told the club only got 2 and they had been raffled of in a club draw for fundraising. Well i never heard of the draw and surprise surprise the winner of the 2 tickets just happened to be someone very high up on the committee.
Up here its a real dog fight for tickets - if i had them i would go to every final hurling and football but the hassle involved has put me off.

Re: ticket allocation
Not Fair Loyal, I know as much about the game and any man at it, I can name you the players the rules etc. There are just as many edits who go the the game that are men who only know one player off the opposing team and only half their own team, I don't know how many people from opposing teams I have heard in the past saying 'Take Paddy Bradley out of it' no matter which player had the ball. I am also not a sunshine supporter, I have attended every game this year I have been able to when I am not working or if I can afford to go, the only games this year I missed were the Mayo and Dublin games because I was working the Mayo game and Dublin game), I was at the league final in Dublin this year and last, I was at Clones for the Armagh game in 07 when an estimated only 450 Derry supporters turned up and I was in Monaghan for the Derry Monaghan game last year, I was in Derry last year to see Paddy Bradley play keepy uppy. So don't tar all women with the same brush and say we are only interest in the game only interested if it is going to rain because its bullshit.
One thing I will say is annoying is big games in Croker etc where there are limited tickets and people take their 4 year olds to occup a seat even though they may bay full price it is unfair on people to miss out on their team playing at the expense of a child who is unaware of the game going on.

Sorry Bright-Oak, I know you are a brilliant Derry supporter, maybe even the best.
But lets say it does rain at a game, are you not worried about your hair getting ruined or your make-up starting to go all funny on your face?

No couldn't give a **** as long as derry win! I don't go to football matches to attract boys ye know, i've got one already! Also...I don't know if you have ever heard of this new concept called Coats, they are commonly used in wet conditions. i should have picked one up for you in Strabane yesterday!

How does this coat thing work? Can it stop your hair from getting wet.
Would you not like to look your best at a match?

Sure I like to look my best all the time, but sure **** happens rain happens. Also I don't wear make-up to football games so it doesn't affect me.

Re: ticket allocation
When Galway got to the All Ireland in 2005 there was about 40k Galway supporters at the final and yet about a month earlier in the quarter final against Tipperary there were about 2k and they were saying it was worst Galway support in years. It sickened me to hear about so called Galway supporters getting tickets even though they weren't at a match since the 2001 All Ireland hurling final. I remember at the time they ran out of Galway jerseys in the shop a week or two before the All Ireland and yet a month or two earlier there was loads in the shops.

I have no bovver getting tickets for Dublin matches and could get them for Finals but I share the opinion that someone from the county is missing out. Having said that the paltry crowds we've seen in recent years surely means that maybe half of those at the Final are attending their first game.
Now if Dublin got to a final ....... it'd be mental!!

Re: ticket allocation
well being from sligo when all ireland time comes around i must admit that there is not much demand for tickets, does not really matter anyway as i have a pass into croker for any game but i remember 2007 against cork and we had a visit to croker there was no bother at all getting tickets or in 2003 or 2002, now adays i have a few good contacts inside the sacred walls so can get tickets for most gaa matches. one thing that does annoy me is people asking for tickets only when theres a big game on.
easy example a couple of years ago 2007 to be exact, a dublin friend of mine who i know goes to all the league games home and away and god knows how many club matches was finding it very hard to get tickets for the 1/4 finals, he tried his club the county board he could not get any, i asked him how come? he said it was the same every year. big games all the tickets are gone because people with a little power get them all.
now as it happens i managed to procure 4 nice tickets in the hogan for him. after the game on monday moring we where chatting over a coffee and we both agreed that what should happen is a system where if say there are 7 league games that year, if you came to the county board with stubbs or recipts for say 5 league games you should be entitled to being able to get two tickets for any match!!!!
i thought it was a good idea.................

i agree rich i think a system like this would help with this problem and might encourage supporters out for league games just to make sure of a ticket for latter stages which would boost numbers

Jim, is that reduced if the club is only football or only hurling.
Our club have 2 Premium level tickets 10-year tickets that we bought ourselves. We raffle them off every year as a fundraiser.
After that we get 2 tickets a year that are put into two draw. One for players only, and one for other members of the club.
The county board rep gets his ticket as well.
If there are another two tickets coming in somewhere the executive have done one hell of a job hiding them!
