Small World!
We always hear the expression it's a small world - mind you it's quite big and you wouldn't be walking around it too quickly! But we have all had those 'small world' experiences - and I think Irish people may have more than other nationalities not least due to the great Irish diaspora worldwide.
I reckon that a lot of posters on here would have a mutual acquaintance without searching too hard. But the thread is about 'small world' experiences you may have had.
I had two notables in the US in 2002. I was on a train from Connecticut to NY when the guy came checking tickets - they do that in the US - and people actually have tickets!! Anyway the guy - a great hurler - was a year ahead of me in school and had been in the US for nearly 20 years!
We had a great chat and a few days later he was on the train again! He didn't check any tickets though - he sat down and we chatted about home for the 45 minute journey!!
On the same holiday I was in Filene's Basement in Boston picking out some fancy shirts!! I heard a voice talking behind me and recognised it as Irish - then Dublin - and then realised I knew the actual voice. I turned around and there was a lad I went to school with!! He was on a course in Harvard!!!
Small world alright!

Re: Small World!
Jayo lives beside a mate of mine, but the best story about small worlds and me features Bangkok.
Friend of mine from Manchester was in a pub there and after five minutes someone asked her if she knew me.

Re: Small World!
Living in England, it's always been a challenge for me to keep in touch with the GAA world, but about a while back I befriended a Tipperary man on Facebook and we chatted about the Tipp team and their chances etc a fair bit, last year I went across for the Munster U21 hurling final in Ennis (the one where all the Clare fans got a little cross) and popped into Supermacs in Limerick on the way back to Tipp. There was a lot of blue and gold jerseys in there but I got talking to one guy about the match and mentioned I'd come over from England - it was only the bloke I'd been chatting to online for the last 6 months!

Re: Small World!
At the Union Conference, after I made a speech mostly concerning the use of horse's heads strategically placed at the foot of management beds, a bloke asked me if I was the same Patrique from Hogan Stand, he was from Dungannon in Tyrone.
He thought my speech was of the same high standards as my posts on GAA sites.
