Aren't Ireland awful?
God what a horrible way to spend an evening. Are people seriously thinking we will top that group? We played a Championship team tonight and thanks to a huge helping hand by the ref - we scraped (no sarcasm this time) a 2-1 win.
Lets face it we have a pretty poor team. Given is excellent, Kelly apparently unfit and very bad for the goal - but I'd reserve judgement yet. Kevin Kilbane - as honest as the day is long but nowhere near international standard - even in his prime. Dunne - suffering a bit but good. John O'Shea - an accident waiting to happen and a very very poor passer. Whelan & Andrews - good lads but again nowhere near international standard - nowhere near!
McGeady - potential if he could learn to cross but man of the match - gimme a break. Duff - getting back to the old Duff. Doyle - my man of the match - a tireless worker and a decent striker. Robbie? Drives me nuts, totally inconsistent. Got 2 goals tonight but was otherwise dreadful.
And what have we in reserve? McShane (not good enough), Finnan (yes a good player), the two Reids - gotta be worth a look at in midfield. And Stephen Ireland - they just gotta get that guy back!
Bottom line - don't believe the hype. Pundits and fans talking through their behinds. If we get a play-off place we will be over achieving.

Can't argue with that. It's an accident waiting to happen. Italy could absolutely whip us. I'm sure Traps intentions against Italy however will be to defend like crazy and hope to steal a point.

Re: Aren't Ireland awful?
yesterday in work , one of the lads offered me 2 tickets to the game . " For free???" i asked, he said no- face value. €50 !!! anybody that paid €50 to go see that crap wants there head examined. i'm sorry if i seem unpathriotic , but i am when it comes to ireland . The last straw for me was after the san marino game. But the lad in work summed it up well. People get p***** off cause they say that ireland play shite, but they dont seem to realise they are shite. i cant remember the last time i actually enjoyed watching them play. actually i do, against spain in the quarter's in '02. thats 7 years off watching crap
P.s jayo i felt mcgeady disserved man of the match, yeah his passing was a bit muck in the first half, but he seemed to be the only one with a bit of heart in it.

Lino - don't be letting your heart rule your head there!
He improved second half but if a winger can't deliver a ball then ..
Thought Doyle was excellent.

They are now winning games they used to lose in the past. Remember Israel in 2004-05.

Re: Aren't Ireland awful?
They are stone useless. I've been saying Steve Stauton was a great a manager for the last 4 years but nobody would listen. Its starting to look like I was right.
McGeady wouldn't cross the road never the ball.
Doyle had one great game about 2 years ago and everybody thinks he's the next Pele.
Duff = tosser.
O'Shea, don't get me started.

We lost to Cyprus!!!
Admin - we lost to Cyprus because they have improved a lot (remember whenwe used to hammer Turkey too?) and the reality is that they will beat us handy enough when we go there in this qualifier too.

So Paul McShane kicks Robbie Keane out of the German match. Best contribution he has made to Irish team IMO .....

Re: Aren't Ireland awful?
Given our economic dependence on Germany, I feel we won't burst a gut in attempting to defeat them tonight. In the national interest, Madam Merkle will be happy if we "show some battling qualities" give a few volleys of "The Fields of Athenry" and succumb 4-0.....
But yet a couple of thousand simpletons will converge on the Aviva to savour the "atmosphere"....More atmosphere with a cow calving...

I expect Ireland to do well tonight in view of the changes forced on Trapp. New faces will bring freshness and tg for injuries etc. 1-1 Result.

Re: Aren't Ireland awful?
If the manager of a Junior B team presided over a debacle like that the whole parish would picket his house until he resigned. Trap out.
The Faroe Islanders, an amalgam of goat-herders and chimney sweeps, will give them their fill of it during the week.
It's confirmed, Ireland are awful, yet awful doesn't fully plumb the depths here. Abysmal may fit the bill.

Well Box I got the score half right. Worst since Kerry v Meath in 2001. Played in wrong jerseys. Are Germany away colours green?.

A grand little pitch in the Faroes, fair play to them. At least it's their own.
