Re: All Ireland minor championship 2014
Donegal beat Tyrone twice already this spring, so they must have a good side this year. The reports I heard indicated that they were physically strong. They'd be favourites for Ulster, I'd suspect.

The centre half forward (also an u21) is a son of a mate of mine (who won an ulster minor title in 91)

Leitrim minors have had an excellent Spring campaign - these are the U-16 Hastings Cup winners of 2 years ago, now in the hands of Enda Lyons. I'm quietly confident that we'll rock the Rossies in the Hyde and make a Connacht final at the minimum.

Three minor games to be played this weekend, later today in Connacht, Sligo are at home to Galway. In Ulster the rescheduled Tyrone v Monaghan game and on Sunday Donegal v Antrim face off for a place in the Ulster final.

Re: All Ireland minor championship 2014
Pleasantly surprised with our minors beating Tyrone this evening. I must admit I didn't see this coming given most of our key players from last years team are overage, especially the forwards which were the main reason we won most games. And also the fact that Tyrone are usually strong at minor level any year.
A few goals in the first half gave us a good cushion but we nearly threw that away when Tyrone mounted a late comeback only to fall to a narrow defeat, similar enough finish to last weekend in that respect. The Tyrone hoodoo seems to be well and truly gone! Though of course the minors were the first to break that last July in another nervy ending.
The minors can now look forward to being the curtain raiser to the senior game in Clones next Saturday night, a Monaghan-Armagh double, and a chance for our minors to reach 3 Ulster finals in a row.

Surprising result as i think Tyrone had a number of last years minors still underage. On this occasion goals certainly won the game. Galway had straightforward 1-13 to 1-7 win over Sligo they are looking good to win their first Connacht minor title since 2007 or maybe Leitrim might have a say in that?

That's the plan at this stage anyway. Whether the plan is in place this time next week or not, who knows.

Wins for Armagh,Mayo and Roscommon i suppose all three were expected to lose but the unpredictable nature of the minor championship strikes again.
Mayo v Roscommon and Armagh v Donegal the Connacht,Ulster finals now.

Re: All Ireland minor championship 2014
Dublin laid down a marker tonight by beating a fancied Offaly side by a whopping 25 points. Its look like a Dublin v Kerry All Ireland final sound familiar? up to the others to stop them now.

Quarter finals set.
Donegal v Roscommon
Mayo v Armagh
Dublin v Cork
Kerry v Kildare
The four provincial winners should win those four games however this level is known for the odd shock.

Re: All Ireland minor championship 2014
First of the four quarter finals played today it finished Donegal 0-10 Roscommon 1-5. A dour defensive struggle where Donegal led 5-4 at HT and extended that lead to 10-4 in the 44 minute. For the final 15 minutes the rossies finally came out of their shell and by all accounts Donegal just about hung on to win.

Big win for Mayo minors in the 2nd quarter final today 3-13 to 0-9 against Armagh. It was 5-4 with five minutes to go before the break and then Mayo cut loose and won pulling up. Mayo look in good shape to defend their AI but bigger tests await for them.

Re: All Ireland minor championship 2014
Kerry have lived up to their hype thus far by reaching their first minor AI final since 2006. Bet Mayo by 4 points but if they won by 10 points the Connacht lads could have little complaints. In fairness to Mayo they did lose their best player Cian Hanley this lad has the potential to be as good if not better than Cillian O Connor.
Dublin v Donegal this Sunday, the dubs odds on win eventhough they are probably not at the level of their minor teams in 2011,12. Donegal if they perform on the day have decent chance of causing upset.

Well I called that spot on Donegal full value for their win. It now sets up a very interesting All Ireland final.

Cian Hanley to join up with his brother in the AFL. Has been a bad week for Mayo.

The carry-on of the Mayo management/medical team have a lot to answer for in this young man's case.
He was clearly injured in the first case, they "hoped" he'd run it off, but no. They persisted until the lad just plainly collapsed and had to be replaced. Were I his parent, I'd have waded in and taken the lad off myself, much like Tommy Murphy's father did in 1936/7 when Laois played Kerry. Murphy was 16 at the time.
Mayo are paying the price for their own neglicence in this matter. No sympathy from me.

Re: All Ireland minor championship 2014
You think the way Mayo treated his injury made his mind up to go to Australia? Sounds like it was done deal about a year ago and was probably always likely with his brother over there and a big success.

Re: All Ireland minor championship 2014
Taking your post as fact then it was still incredibly callous behaviour by the Mayo officials. The chap was clearly injured, the extent undetermined, and they therefore decided to let him continue....Scandalous.
