Kilkenny and Dublin
Just looking at Kilkenny team there. No Hickey, Rice, Fennelly, Taggy - are these lads injured or dropped?
Is Tennyson still involved?
Still powerful looking forward line with TJ Reid coming in for Eddie Brennan the only change since the All-Ireland Final. I've never been impressed with TJ.
Kilkenny to win I would say.

Re: Kilkenny and Dublin
Rice and Fennelly are two of their most important hurlers and are currently injured but will be back in a few weeks. Hickey and Taggy are fit but just out of favour

Re: Kilkenny and Dublin
If the Dubs are to beat Kilkenny in the championship now is there chance, pretty much a full strength Dublin side while Kilkenny are missing two key players in Fennelly and Rice and have replaced them with a novice and the inexperienced Paddy Hogan added to that the fact that Power has only returned from injury while Shefflin has very little hurling done this year.

An open enough looking contest. Cats will miss the driving runs of Fennelly and Rice's power, but look to have enough quality up front to see off the Dubs by somewhere between 4-6 points in a high scoring encounter.

You'd swear they'd never won anything to listen to Cody. Praising Dublin, dangerous in the qualifiers, we got the 2 early goals to give us breathing space, unseasonal conditions, we seem to have adapted better etc.,
A plámáser of gargantuan proportions, might have made a great Govt. minister.
Never disclosed he had them on a wet-weather training camp in Ballinamore all week....cute as a pet fox..

9 points for the Dubs over the course of 70 minutes, only 5 from play. Shefflin scored more on his own albeit he didnt score from play at all though he has now amassed over 500 points in championship hurling!!!
Has the bubble burst for the Dubs as far as hurling is concerned?

Comment from Anthony Daly: "It looked like we just picked up 20 lads at the Red Cow and travelled down" or words to that effect.
Hardly the observations of someone committed to the cause.
Kilkenny have slipped noticeably back toward the pack since last year all the same. Tonight's total, amassed against mediocre opponents, is indicative of a team on the slide. The return of Rice and Fennelly may give them enough to see off Galway, but that's about it.
When it all goes wrong, as it will, expect Cody to take all the blame though, such is the type of man he is. He isn't one to blame his players, even when some of them are well past their peak.

Re: Kilkenny and Dublin
Very disappointed with that Dublin performance - didn't see it coming at all and actually backed Dubs in tipster - more with heart than head. Them seem to have regressed this year and this despite having some big names back.
Kilkenny will hammer Galway and all before them this year. Anyone who thinks that team are on the slide does not know hurling.

You were looking at it I take. Their half-back line, Hogan excepted, aren't the same without JJ. Tommy has regressed and young Doyle will struggle. This is their key area. Strong mobile forwards who aren't afraid of them will play puck with them.....

Re: Kilkenny and Dublin
Their minors got routed yesterday for the second year in a row, this time by Dublin. Nothing coming up in Kilkenny.
It'll be a football county in 20 years, particularly when the Paul Donnelly article hits the media to give the transition some traction....

Re: Kilkenny and Dublin
Kilkenny are capable of administering a good thrashing to anyone on their day but the degree to which Dublin had been talked up before yesterdays game was genuinely baffling. People kept going on about their great 'physicality' but you have to be able to hurl as well. 'Experts' excused their relegation on the basis that they had been targeting this game all year, what the hell did they think Kilkenny were doing in the meantime, preparing for the Euro's? Ultimately no team ever gets relegated by accident and the signs were there all along that a right hammering was on the cards.
Where now for Dublin? There will be no handy draw for them in the next round. A matchup with Clare would be intriguing but Daly will find it tough to raise their spirits after yesterdays dire display and I wouldn't be surprised if his post game comments cause some serious damage in the dressing room.

2-20 in those conditions was hardly modest. Tommy had better games but it did,nt matter. Hogan was supreme. Cork looked good today but the new blooded forwards lack jugular instinct. Cork half back line cleaned house until cadogan lost the run of himself and gave the ball to bonner when the sides were level.
Tipp backs got cleaned today and if cork had played one more pass (a la lar to mcgrath
) on about three occasions cork where out of sight.
In summary if kilkenny have regressed well who,s better?

I didn't hold up anyone better, I merely said that they have regressed noticeably. Slipped back to the chasing pack was the view.
It's up to the chasing teams to bridge that gap. Cork's youth may have the necessary legs and desire to get stuck into it.
JBM and his cohorts will take more from this defeat than Tipp will from the victory. In fact, the current Tipp team are also on the slide.
Kilkenny are very beatable IMO.
