I found the roads out of them to be a welcome sight.

If you can get as far as Midleton, visit the distillery. I believe they give you a free taste of whiskey at the end of the tour!

not much in East cork nice beach over Knockadoon head/Red barn - but can't imagine it would too appealing in October as you move west - there is Fota Island wildlife park - Old head of Kinsale
- Clonakillity is a good spot - Pub there called De Barra's good for Stout and they have lots of gigs/bands playing there also. Further west - check out Gougane Barra - lovely forest park between Bantry and Macroom
Kerry - If you want to look at the coast and lakes well is hard to avoid them - Dingle is a great spot - Dicky Macs pub would the Tourist Trap of choice - and of course if you do a lap of the dingle penninsula a stop off at PaidÃ's is a must - Molls gap killarney lakes etc also

Skip Cork. Go Ring of Kerry. Parknasilla,Kenmare,Sneem. Branch off to Portmagee/Valentia. That should cover your four days. Also pause at New Street, Cahirciveen. Only street with 5 player of the year awards.

Just in case some people get confused: Fota Wildlife Park is in East Cork.

Yes - but it is to the west of Knockadoon head.
Out of interest where is the dividing line ? Kinsale ? - Or is there a Central cork that runs from say Liitle Island to Inchodoney ?

Re: Places to see in Cork and Kerry
Oddly enough, I never thought that there might be an exact line dividing East and West Cork. I always thought of the city as the dividing line, but if you draw a line from Carragaline, through the city, up to Charleville it divides the county neatly in half. Of course there is North Cork, as well, (Charleville, Mitchelstown, Mallow, Kanturk - and Newtownshandrum, home of the O'Connors and Cathal Naughton!)
There are certainly several constituencies with "Central" in their name, but geographiclly the area around the city is referred to as Mid Cork. For example, although Blarney is on the west side of the city, it is not in West Cork and the same is true for Ballincollig.
