Club hurling Development
Im currently in the process of combining three football clubs in the gloucestershire county board into one hurling club, during my research i found this to be quite common but not common enough.
I know in Tyrone in the coalisland area they formed one club, which is the only hurling club in the county to have its own grounds etc and last year made it to the all ireland junior finals, now im seeing in Cavan that on a wider scale they have under age, west and south cavan clubs, reporting brilliant numbers, this is excellent, i dont see why in fermangh between all the football clubs they could not find another 3 under age clubs, surely this proves some of these development officers arent doing their jobs properly if it is working in some counties and not others, why do they not look at combinations in longford or louth or leitrim or monaghan? is it already happening but slower to take off?
I think these sort of projects should be thrown every available resource the gaa has.
What do yous think? do you know much about these projects? AM eager to know, it is excellent for club hurling in cavan however in tyrone its not as wide spread as it could be however they do have a few half decent hurling clubs anyway.

Just further on from this, during my research i found that fermanagh had two hurling divisions during the 1980s, what happened like? the gaa should hang its head on this one, counties like this one hurling was allowed to fail.

When I was playing for Queen's back in the 1970s we had about 4 Fermanagh lads, two of whom were good, indeed one was very good and he won a few Antrim County medals with Rossa.
Fermanagh always produced a few hurlers over the years but they never got any recognition in their own counties.
Back then Armagh had a few sides playing in antrim, and were reasonably strong. Nice to see they at least are on the way back.

Re: Club hurling Development
Just to bring this on a bit, i am starting to come round to the idea of combined leagues at senior level, ie fermanagh, Donegal and Leitrim Hurling League, then a Monghan Cavan Longford and Louth Hurling league.
I would also propose that these teams form a regional "hurling board" to promote these games and ask all clubs who have no hurling to look into promotion by way of a 7 aside mini league for under twelve and ten, played in all different venues.
I would propose that they also run off a championship with Junior, Intermediate and senior up for grabs.

Re: Club hurling Development
for hurling to progress you cant just do it at senior level it has to go all the way down to the kids and the schools

Re: Club hurling Development
A wexford business man is investing 250 000 for a good few clubs to go all hurling but yet may fulfil there football fixtures but not to train. My club are most likely voting on it next month. Hope it passes. Just thought ye might find this indteresting as it is along the same lines as what you are planning i think

Re: Club hurling Development
any more info on that gaamad?
I wouldnt agree with that, what im saying is, amalgamate 2 or 3 or even 5 or 6 football clubs into one hurling club its better than all them football clubs having no hurling at all, my other idea is to find a five aside hurling league or seven a side for boys to play in recreationally, just to heighten interest of the game.

I can imagine that being a nightmare for a football man but even so i agree... Couldnt be passed at our club due to a constitutional technicality but the subject is not finished.....club is subject to splitting i would say
