Re: International Rules
Not sure if it's been mentioned on here so far but who's bright idea was it to air it on TG4?? The vast majority of viewers then not only have to witness the terrible display on the pitch but can't listen to the commentary and pundits views either.
I'm sure a lot will be listening to the great MO'M tomorrow night seeing as it's his last broadcast..

TG4 are sponsoring it so naturally it will be shown on their channel. TG4 are brilliant backers of the GAA and put RTE to shame so I'm delighted them have it.

Re: International Rules
Fair play to TG4 for sponsoring it, I have nothing against them. But I like listening to commentary on games as I'm sure a lot of people do. Why air something that's supposed to be a national spectacle in a language that only a tiny percentage of the population speak?

Cause they are sponsoring it. Should I put it in capitals?

Re: International Rules
So the organisers of the International Rules had no say in the sponsor or what station it would be aired on no?? Interesting way of doing things..
I assume the players were given Coca Cola to drink instead of water in the previous games were they?

It must be part of their sponsorship of the team to show the games.
The problem I have with this is, although I understand most of what the commentator says I have to concentrate to do this, thus taking away from the experience.
As the saying goes 'Is deacair a bheith ag feadaíl agus ag ithe mine'.

Re: International Rules
Irish at secondary school level is an absolute farce. No focus on learning to speak the language, learn off a few answers an some inane story like "An Cearrbach MaCabha" and go in and throw it down. Learn to say what your pass times are and what you work at and go into your Oral and recite it. All to be forgotten within a week of sitting the exam and you'll come away with an honor at higher level if your in any way clever. Perhaps the blame lies with the teachers but the system allows it and that's what happens in schools up and down the country. It's a joke.

How dare you interfere.. The Irish language, it's long tails and all, are our heritage...The pomposity of anyone to infer that a foreign language is more taught and used is anti-nationalistic in the extreme....
I might add that I've given away 2 daughters in marriage with wonderfully witty speeches (as Gaeilge) that were understandable and enjoyable to all...
Poor form.....

Re: International Rules
Wait now lads I have the utmost respect for the Irish language and it's unique place in Irish heritage. That is why I feel angry that the current secondary school curriculum is so farcical. You learn off what you need to about a few poems and a short stories, go in and throw it down. Same for the oral. The focus on learning to speak the language so that it could be used day to day, so that you could hold a conversation is minimal at very best. Far too much specified material on the course.
You learn an essay which is learnt off, you give answers on poems which you learn off, prose which you have learned off, Stair na Gaeilge which you have learned off, and a play which you have learned off. The only thing that tests your ability to speak the language is the oral and a few reading comprehensions.
I came out of school speaking better French than Irish. So did many others in my year. The French exam is more focused to have you learn the language and then to test that knowledge of the language.
My criticism and comparison with French was based on two School Curriculum, nothing to do with national pride.

Well who'd have thought Ireland would come back, within 3 of the Aussies at one stage, great performance in the second half fair play to them.

Trust me my man - there was nothing to experience - a heap of *****! You don't need Irish to see that the Aussies kicking and fieldiing is far superior to ours. A free bar was the only saving grace here and JC made good use and didn't venture beyond the glass door after 2 quarters. Mein hosts - a well known bank - disappointingly let the bar run dry on the final whistle but there was more to be had in Fagan's!!!
Speaking of sponsorship that English paper the Irish Daily Mail also were a big sponsor ...... Why would or does any Irish person buy that????

At halftime I wandered out for a drag. On the way back I bumped into Bernard Dunne. Have ya a pair of boots with ya Bernard, sez I, that you could go out there and liven up this rubbish. He laughed and said he was still a bit sore after the Marathon!
