Champs League 2011/12
Well Utd off to a flier with a fine 0-0 draw at home to the pride of Scotland. Sir Alex - in yet another of his many arrogant mis-selections picked a Beezer Homes XI. We had Roo who seems to have left his first touch and ball control behind in a Lancashire brazzerie, Irish international Gibson shooting out the floodlights and a host of other ordinaries delivering the only goalless game of the night. Gonna be a long hard and trophyless season for you United fans. I can hear the creditors gathering already. Perhaps City will throw a few bob across the City to the OT paupers. And Rovers losing 5-1 last night .... good week so far!

Yeah I admit I was a bit sorry alright ............ that it wasn't 6. Gap down to 4 - rabble bound to bottle it now. Their quest for a title even longer than the Dubs and long may it continue!

Re: Champs League 2011/12
Oh no a draw in the group stages of the Champions League against a team camped in their own box. United are finished. Just as Barca could never recover from the defeat to Rubin Kazan last season. Fergie shows the incompetence in team selection that has won him 11 League Titles and 2 Champions Leagues. Will he ever learn? City can throw money if they want, just don't throw any of the players, it wouldn't be fair to leave them sitting on the bench. Top 3 finish and Champions League Semi-Final looks achievable. Not a great year by United's standards but still not bad for a team 800 Million in the red.

You hit the nail on the head JS - a scabby 2 champs leagues out of over 20 attempts - first as jammy as hell - second on penos. Losses to crap sides littered throughout those years. Greatest club in the world, greatest manager and two measly and dodgy Champs Leagues! And that was when he had money and bullied every club in England and Europe. Now he has none, no muscle - lets see what he's made of. Like Micko - a totally overrated man.

Mind you that young fella he brought on tonight looks promising even if he didn't touch the ball. Owen Michael? Was that his name? Thats the power of Utd these days .......

You can't be expecting him to score a hat trick in every Champions League game he plays in I suppose..

Re: Champs League 2011/12
Playing possibly the weakest team of the 32 competing in the Champions league at home and having less than 2 shots on target says alot about the lack of quality in the squad Man utd have. I think Fergusson was right in making ten changes...afterall he was confident in this squad when millions of us supporters knew that they were rubbish. Tonight they proved us right. These are the players we will look to when the injuries set in and really the future looks bleak.
The above is posted by a United fan on BBC 606 blog.
As for me, I told EVERYONE at work that Rangers would win 1-0. They will laugh at me tomorrow.
If we look back to 2008 when both were successful in Europe, I think most of their games finished 0-0 so it is not really a surprise.
I also noticed one Rangers supporter did not travel from Wigan, as he was busy writing the programme notes about his "support for the Teddy Bears when I was yoiung and it was always my ambition to play for them".
Nice to know there are some really nice Gers fans.

Re: Champs League 2011/12
United were hopeless tonight.
While the wonderful TV3 pundits claimed that it was a "reserve team", it featured 2 of their best players (Rooney and Valencia), the returning Rio Ferdinand, the frequently present Darren Fletcher and their big game weapon (at least in Ferguson's mind) Park Ji-Sung. They're 5 players who could well be starting in a big game. Despite this, United were atrocious. The barely created anything and as someone else said it shows the weakness of their squad. Dropping 2 points wasn't even the worst part of the night, the potentially long-term injury to Valencia will deprive them of one of the few players in the squad with a bit of creativity.
This game showed up United and proved that they really needed to bring in some new players during the summer. The strength in depth just isn't there. Chicharito, Michael Owen and Bebe are not proper back-up for oft-injured and controversial Rooney and the lazy (but not too bad this season to be fair) Berbatov. Rooney's form last year was the only reason United were anywhere near Chelsea, without him they would have finished far more than 1 point behind them. Look at how they crumbled after he got injured. Judging on his performances at the World Cup and so far this season, I don't think he will come close to the heights of last year and thus United will win nothing and struggle to finish in the Top 2.

It looks like the game is up for Sir,Micky Rooney and the great Man Utd, Top club in the world could be struggling to get into Europa Cup. Very sad really.

Re: Champs League 2011/12
The simple fact is that the Red Manchester Franchise is in signicant need of re-financing.
Back in the day when they had a few shekels they could buy players - Rooney, Ferdinand and could even afford to make a few expensive mistakes - Veron,Forlan and to sell top class players like Ruud and Jaap- but then they had to sell Ronaldo to pay the 2008 interest bill - They refinanced in 2009 so that the 2009 and 2010 interest costs could be postponed- The solution to this is that they hope that Rooney becomes worth £100m before they sell him to City.
In the meantime Fergie hopes that slotting in a few journeymen -Van Der Saar, Andy Goram, Larsson, Michael Owen will keep the ball in the air - Possibly when the transfer window opens again there will be options like Hasslebank, Robbie Fowler, Maldini, Cisse, Morientes etc.

Yes - they will be formidable opposition ....... in the Over 40s League.
But its not fair the way sugar daddies come into other clubs and buy success when Utd make all their own money from merchandise and fans and season tickets and have always been scrupulous in their dealings in the transfer market ...

Yes Jayo it is fair to say that only Man United and maybe Aston Villa are the only clubs that have earned their success by virtue of the blood, sweat and tears of their fans and through the players passion effort and love of nothing but the crest the shirt and the club. This are the defining reasons for the success that they have acheived
It is not fair to group a club which is solely in existance for the asthetic pleasure of its fans with organistations that are merely passtimes for oligarchs or bored sheiks, deal flipping corporate financiers, and Global Media predators.
Its like comparing the GAA and Exxon Mobil.

Wasn't it a pleasure to watch the sheer artistry of the Gooners tonight - after the finger painting efforts of last night. Football as it should be played. Sublime at times and the ball passed with the precision of a snooker match. And Fabregas - what a player - a genius. Song brings a bit of steel too. All this from a team with no Sugar Daddy, a brand spanking new stadium, home support and - debt free! Now that is how a soccer club should be run ...... and how soccer should be played. Give me a professor over a bully anyday ....

Yes wonderful flowing passing football, great to watch. It is not however, winning football. Last year having got their annual losses to United and Chelsea out of the way long before the run in all Arsenal had to do was put away the smaller teams and the title was theirs, nobody (except Patrique) however tipped them and why? Because Arsenal are soft. Can't handle a dogfight. Drew with Birmingham and then gave up.

Gave up what? They qualified.
The ONLY reason Chelsea won the league was an attempt by the manager to placate the owner. No chance.
If he wins the league again this year and not the big one, he will be shown the door.

We have had this argument at least 10 times now. Yes they qualified. After they lost to United and Chelsea they were still going to qualify there was no doubt about that. Why not beat a few small teams and get the trophy? Because they couldn't handle a tough game against Birmingham. They can't handle tough games in the Champions League either. Remember United hammering them in 2008?

I shall look back with nostalgia when soccer was about skill, movement, vision.
Suppose Lee Clattermole is a cert for world player of the year?

Arsenal aren't debt free, they have one of the highest debts in Europe due to their new stadium but like all good businesses and unlike Liverpool and Man United they are more than capable of servcing the debt and are doing so with ease at the moment....
Would have good time for Wenger, one of the few managers out there that isn't results orientated with regards the football his team plays and will not sell out his beliefs.....
