Re: Euro 2012 Thread
Spain really did put on a masterclass. Their passing was even better than any other game in the tournament and crucially it was incisive. And Iniesta came into his own - he was sublime. He bossed the game a la Pirlo. Italy had no answers though Di Natale had a great chance on the resumption which would have made it interesting.
Spain have certainly redefined the game. Though it will not be easy for teams to try to replicate it as the Spanish midfield is full of class. Their template too is not unlike Barca. Its strange to watch a team with no out and out striker but the passing and movement is breath-taking at times. Worthy winners indeed and a team for the ages.

Played without an out and or striker and yet Torres wins the Golden Boot, it really is a funny old game!!!

Re: Euro 2012 Thread
One of the best moments of the tournament came in Dunphy's insightful comments during the post-match analysis last night .....
"There’s a unity between the Catalans and the Spaniards which is very important… Traditionally Spain have underachieved because the players of Barcelona, and the Basque country indeed, and the Castilians don’t get on. But that rift has been healed by this generation of players.
And notably, when the [Spanish] national anthem was being played no Spanish player sang it. I think that was a recognition that [the players] say nothing, the players subscribe to that, and keep quiet. For the purposes of football, they have left a culture and their politics in the dressing room and played for their nation."
Hey Eamo - rather than any apolitical or unity statement I'm guessing they didn't sing the anthem ... because there are no words to it. Muppet!

How come he won it as he was tied on 3 goals with a few more. Assists?

Yep - one assist. So the fact that he played in Mata rather than have a go himself ended up winning him it anyway!

I thought there is some historical issue on this -
Franco had words -
Catalans don't like Franco
Some "spanish" players used to sing the words

Has become the norm OMAR. The decline in population of "bog-donkeys" has brought us to this.....

Looking at him I'd say he'd be more a "breast-spade" operator.....
