Kilkenny or Tipperary......
Re: All-Ireland hurling final....Kilkenny V Tipperary...Thoughts and opinions..
The more I think of it the more I cannot see Tipp winning this, I made some of these points the other night but i will ramble on...Last year they came in with little or no pressure or expectation on them and performed heroically, this year every tipp man woman and child I have mt expects a win, for me they looked far more impressive last year, despite the fact they were prone to the odd dip in matches, which still hasn't been erradicated...For Tipp to win this they will need to come absolutely flying out of the blocks and be 5 or 6 points down going in at half time, I simply cannot see them coming from behind in the second half to beat this Kilkenny team, Wexford 2004 was the last time they lost a game which they were winning half way through the second half.....Kilkenny backs are far more solid this year with Hickey at three and Delaney at 7...If Tipp get on top if Cha and Fennelly at midfield then they have the option of bringing on Lyng or moving Rice back(if he starts half forward, if Tipp are losing the midfield battle they are fucked as Hennessey doesn't have th mobility for midfield at this level and Young isn't an I/C midfielder
All in all I just think the Kilkenny backs will win more individual duels than the Tipp ones will, midfield could go anyway but Kilkenny have the ability to change it while Tipp don't, it is never really mentioned but Michael Fennelly made a huge difference when introduced in last years final

P - you could also argue that Tipp are coming to the boil at just the right time this year. But I agree that the Cats forwards are likely to do more damage than Tipp's. I think Tipp are the clear second best team at the moment but the Cats are at least 5/6 points better.

Don't see much evidence of that to be honest, it is very hard to draw formlines though respective games as Cork and Galway both hurled far better against Tipp than they did Kilkenny but in saying that a Galway side who were cleaned out at midfield and only Eanna Ryan and Damien Hayes hurling any bit well out of their starting forwards coulda/shoulda beaten this Tipp side....Waterford made it easy for this Tipp team with their tactics, Tipp's half backline won so much uncontested ball it was a joke allowing them to build a platform and hurl decent ball into the inside forwards that won't happen on Sunday

I hope Kilkenny do it on Sunday. This team deserves to go down in history as the greatest. After this year it would be nice if they took a break and let Galway,Dublin,Waterford,Clare or Tipp claim the title. Heard Seamus Darby has been spotted in Semple Stadium a few times this week.

They'll get destroyed altogether if it comes wet...slippery conditions not their forte, whereas quality, natural "touch" hurlers will thrive on a "testing" sod...
Wet day, Kilkenny by 15+........

Dont agree Boxty. Wet weather always suits the underdog. The last two All Irelands Kilkenny lost have been shocking wet days.

Well Omar went to see Tony but no chance to get a swipe at him - He exited stage left with half a squadron of SAS lookalikes (presume much better paid now that he is private sector material)
Tried Jedward on the subject of the Iranian threat but they did not engage - Donnacha shared a brace of beers but given that I was not a rugby head that he could give a wedgie to he soon lost interest
Fermoy GAA club came good with "A" ticket that was available for collection off some buck doing the Liffey Descent tomorrow. Note singular and distance to get same "SINGLE TICKET" are accuracte.
Omar has advised Fermoy CLG of where to deposit said single ticket and it aint anywhere near cellbridge. Am now ticketless at the eleventh hour though I have made representations on the corporate market - ie I need TWO tickets for your box and if that means throwing out two smaller customers that you have already given tickets to well then thats your call. I await feedback but am not optimistic at this point - I have attended every AI hurling final since 2003 so would be aggreived at missing the 5 in a row - or its denial for that matter

I definately think they can trouble the Kilkenny full back line which lacks pace. If Tipp are to win their backs and midfield will have to up their game. Tipp are definately capable of winning but will have to take their chances this year something they didn't do last year, having said that I still think that if it is a tight match Kilkenny will come out on top.
You're getting worse than Mossbags Clash in fairness....I'll allow Reid and Rice (if starting) to be on a par with Tipp's best, but Larkin, Eddie, Power and Taggy are different class to anything Tipp can offer.......cumulatively speaking.

Due to a technical hoitch my message did not appear.
SDuffice to say in 5 years time TJ reid will look like a combination of DJ, Christy and Henry compared to Lar Corbett.
Lar would be the second best forward if he played for antrim but Kilkenny??????????

Fooks sake man, I've been on the Poker thread for a while and felt you were sound... I had a pair of Premium levels (not my scene) that I've offloaded for a brace of Hogan lowers, 330 section, (Lár na Pairce) plus €50 for Boxman, to another hungry hoor' from "The City"....Lahnden...
Late night scooping will be the death of me...

Boxty its not the location of the ticket that is the issue - its the quantum - Me getting a day release is always a hurdle to be crossed. The offer of a ticket for a father in law turns it into an event where I brought him (also he will drive). Which means I am getting positive points whereas heading on my own is a negative.
Sadly the only souce for a brace at this late hour is corporate

Kilkwnny were the underdogs that day and bad weather always suits the underdog. Anyway I hope they do it or a few tears will be shed.

Patrique and myself were both at it, seperatley I might add. My memory of it is that Kilkenny were favourites. Patrique might be able to confirm this although he is much younger than me and probably was more sober......

Kilkenny also won the 1992 AI final versus Cork
10 minutes before the game the touts were selling tickets for a fiver which is probably the best way of describing the weather.

At the eleventh hour Fermoy GAA club come good Two proper non premium/box tickets are currently in an envelope somewhere in blackrock (The Cork one) - Man with pink carnation is on first train to heuston and will deposit tickets nearby. Omar just needs to take a detour off the N3 past marys big house and all should be in order.
Fellow Ticket recipient has agreed to drive - Car is full of corporate paid diesel and equipped with corporate paid Eflow tag- Free parking arranged in IFSC - Wingman will pay for beer- All is well in the world - Need someone to sponsor a hang sanger though

Boxty's pilot has opted to avoid the city in favour of parking in Maynooth and availing of public transport therefrom. Boxty doesn't really mind this arrangement.
An afterthought however has arisen. Were I to arrive at Heuston with carnation and sign OMAR, clutching an envelope, would you part with the shekels without opening said envelope??? Probably not, but Jayo might pull it off....

Offloaded my two lower Davin tickets to a carpet fitting Clare man - who is apparently straight down the middle. Bit sorry I am not attending as I have NEVER been to an AI Hurlng Final .. but my Banner man was chuffed to bits ...

FFS What sort of man are you at all at all.....Boxty, from hardly a hurling stronghold, loves hurling final day, if Cork are not involved...Less bandwagon supporters, genuine folk all round and the prospect of high levels of skills, wonderful scores, the best of the very best, unfailingly obliging with their arrays of talent, the true Cuchulainn-esque model of ancient Ireland.....
With history in the making, you deem an avo' with a rake of tinnies at your foot and 40 Silk Cut in your paw and that lederum Ger C waffling on, to be the call.
I was in Croke Park in 1960 when Down made history, in 1982 when Kerry might have and will be tomorrow when KK achieve immortality...

For one month I have planned the entire day, bringing the son who is the Kilkenny scud, seen two finals and the cts lost both.
However as I was leaving to pick up my tickets the son was acting up andi decided I probably wouldn't be able to find him on sunday morning.
So no presence from my club and Tipp's only chance out the window.
Kilkenny to win.

Goals win games, and as i said in the build up they would need at least 2 more than the cats...Better team won but it was closer than the scoreline showed...Kilkenny were a rabble come the last 5 minutes and it isn't too often you see them taking off 4 of their starting forwards....Lar Corbett was excellent when he got on the ball and is a shoe in for MOTM....Eddie Brennan and Hickey looked like shadows of their former selves.....
