Re: Dubs go defensive
mossbags wrote:Dublin are a very average side playing a system that doesn't suit them. Pillar got ridiculed for sticking to the same team over and over again but its becoming clear now that he didn't have much choice as there simply was nothing else there. At least he kept true to Dublins traditional style of play and they at least played some thrilling football every now and then. Kernan came in for us and, other than ironing out some of Liam Sammons excess's he hasn't made any great changes to Galways style but he has toughened them up a wee bit mentally as well as physically. Fair play to Gilroy for trying something new but its sure not pretty and Dublin simply don't have the players. Shane Ryan was under-estimated by management last year but they sure as hell missed him last night. Where are the likes of Vaughan and young Connolly who promised so much? Players like this might have issues or whatever but their natural ability is clear and a dam sight more productive than the ineptitude that we saw wearing the navy n' blue last night. Four points up after 15 minutes and what do they do then?,Protect the lead
Mossy we might be in a bad place today..But we have till August to get things right..

I agree Mullins man. If I was a Dub though I'd be frustrated that a certain mindset on how to play the game is obstructing how to play to your best.

Mossy galway last night didn't set the world on fire either lot of men behind the ball...Is that what Galway fans want..

At this point the answer is yes Mullins man, or to clarify, its knowing how to eke out victories when not at your best, is what Galway fans would be taking most from last nights game. I agree Galway were poor enough last night but they were down to 14 men and playing away from home yet still managed to grind out a decent win which in the last couple of years they have not being doing. Nothing wrong getting men behind the ball when needed btw, but directing your whole footballing philosophy along that approach is shortsighted even for a limited side like Dublin.

When it comes to the championship the swagger will be back..You must be joking here..
Dublin had no intention in winning last nights game. Oh!Yeah..winning is what builds momentum. We don't want to be under the spotlight in April.. Better then than never at all..Dublin only play one way Attack
Mullins man, you would want to cool the jets here with absolutley no offence intended. Don't mind that hoor Bags stringing ye' along but every team wants to build momentum. Your comment that Dublin didn't want to win defies logic. Every team wants to win, it builds momentum within the squad and within the supporters.
A bright, bold and impressive start has frittered away to the revelation of old failings. Part of the problem is that de Duds believe in the hype that they create...
Leinster, poor as it is and given the paucity of genuine contenders, could still be yours...Keep the faith...

Boxty we live in different counties with different expectations---Our best place at the moment is far away from a league final...
We Have One Aim And Thats To Win Sam...And why shouldn't we believe its possible.

I'd agree with that Moss. The question marks around a lot of those Galway players will remain until the start to produce outside of Connaught, but there are encouraging signs in that they are now starting to come out the right side of tight games. Part of that may be because they also seem to be a bit fitter than some of the other division 1 sides at the minute, finishing very strongly in most of their games, but I wouldn't worry even if that was the case, as the mental benefit gained by winning matches is huge.

Re: Dubs go defensive
This website once prided itself in the fact that it didn't give airtime to the likes of Mullins?
A sad day if his nonsense is allowed to take over here. The Dublin manager is trying all these systems only for him to abandon it in the summer? Didn't want to win last night's game? How long will this website operate as a medium for this clown to spill out this garbage?

Yeah, Big Joe's been working on their heads just as much as their physiques. The Kerry result aside, things have gone more or less according to plan and the teams responce to the Kerry game has been superb.Early days but there is enough there to suggest a decent showing this Summer for sure.

Jayo Cluxton wrote:Yep they will have plenty of pace and either Brogan left one on one with half the pitch open could do serious damage. We are lacking the intelligence you need in a half back line to play this I agree but Fennell would suit the game plan. McAuley too is a powerful lad with an eye for goal. But this type of game plan is all very well in Parnell on a cold February / March night - it will be very different - and tiring - in the hot and wide open spaces of Croker in June/July.
TC - I think if you read through this thread you will see that I am most certainly not an advocate of the defensive system and never was!

Jayo Cluxton wrote:I am extremely worried about what Dublin are doing/trying to do/ not doing. It seems management are intent on this extra man back defensive system. This in theory should make it harder to the opposition to score - its not working. We concede almost to our half back line and then guys can still pick passes inside - crazy stuff. The system needs (at least) 3 pacey scoring forwards - we don't have them. As I have said before if it is lax in cold Parnell Pk it will be a disaster in wide open hot Croker. Where we are now is very worrying from a Championshiop point of view - could be a short summer ....
And even more ....

Jayo Cluxton wrote:While you can't knock 4 wins out of 4 so far this League season, there is no doubt that Dublin are playing a far more defensive game this year. The tactic seems to be to have as many men behind the ball whenever possible. I just wonder if the fans wil embrace this new style? I suppose if it brings long awaited success they will!
Or this one Jayo? First post on this thread.
