Re: Football Pedigree - the Top 10
I couldn't help thinking that it was because Down had the 'pedigree' and the tradition that they had the belief to go and Kerry and give them a right mauling the other day. I know that other teams beat, even hammer Kerry every now and then but no one with as much swagger as Down. They are in the top 4 of football counties in terms of pedigree easily, along with Galway, Kerry and the crowd of shapers in sky blue.

Nice resurrection Moss - and a good thread even if I do say so myself ...
Would have been nice to hear more views on some of the earlier points raised.

Don't be embarassed Jayo, it's actually one of the better threads that's ever been on here, that's kinda why, thanks to the Down footballers I gave it an aul' bump.
Agree it would be good to here a broader opinion on some of the points that had been raised but the lads who did contribute also opened my eyes to a lot of stuff too.
Hope you agree too now that Down are at least, a bone fide top 4 county in the pedigree stakes

Re: Football Pedigree - the Top 10
Not too sure if the noughties would be classified as the most competitive, when the counter argument is that they were the least competitive.
The argument is a bit like soccer and the European Cup/Champions league. Was it harder to win when you had to win your national league title FIRST to get into it, and then win maybe 5 ties. That could be 50 games.
Or is it harder where you qualify by being in the top 4 at home, and then play a load of meaningless games, and then 4 knock out ties?
In Gaelic football the question is posed by the back door? Is it harder to win now because the Kerry's and tyrone's and this year everybody gets a second chance, or was it harder to win when you had to win a combative Ulster title to get to the semis?
In the early 1990s we had say Down, Derry and Donegal, three serious Ulster teams, but only one of them had a chance of winning Sam. In the noughties in Ulster you really only had Tyrone and Armagh with two chances.
So take your pick.
I am neutral on this...........
