Its Just Not Cricket!
Morgan guides England to T20 win
First Twenty20 international, Dubai: England 130-3 (18.3 ovs) bt Pakistan 129-8 (20 ovs) by seven wkts
By Jamie Lillywhite
An unbroken stand of 112 between Eoin Morgan and Kevin Pietersen saw England beat world champions Pakistan by seven wickets in the Twenty20 international.
Yes a tremendous win for England. Outstanding performances by the South African, KP and then a great display by eh.... Dublin born and reared Eoin Morgan. How can England 'celebrate' any cricket win when so many of their players are not English?? They are worse than a Premiership soccer team.

Re: Its Just Not Cricket!
I do Boxty, i started a thread on the same thing last year!!
They have been at it for years, how they can call themselves an England team anymore is laughable, as many Jocks, Irish and South Africians have represented the England Cricket teams in the last 10 years as English born players! I didn't count the Welsh born player as it is the England & Wales Cricket Board!
The English steal our best Cricketers, the majority play bit part roles for them, meaning that they can't play for Ireland, therefore stunting the progress of the Irish national team. How is a country supposed to develop when this is happening?
People will likely point out the Irish football team of the present and past, but those players have some sort of Irish bloodline (except Cascarino!!) so you can see through that to some extent, wheather or not you agree with it!

Congratulations to Eoin Morgan - not an ounce of English blood in him - on his man of the match performance for England in todays One Day International v Bangladesh. He scored 100 not out - and becomes the first player in cricket history to score centuries in ODIs for two different countries!!!!

shall remember that. that's a good card to play in the regular England vs. Ireland debates I have to go through regularly. the rugby result has ensured I have the high ground for the moment anyway

They have always been like that Jayo. Off the top of my head, you could add Allan Lamb, Graeme Hick, Robyn Smith, Andrew Strauss (all South African), Simon Jones (Welsh) and Devon Malcolm (Jamaican) to that list. I'm sure Patrique could name several more.

Re: Its Just Not Cricket!
Yeah it's sickening to see Morgan playing for England. The real problem lies in the fact that there are those in the ICC are not too keen to see Ireland as a test playing nation and so it'll be a long time before that happens. While we're in our current position, any player with ambitions of test cricket have to jump ship, a la Morgan and before him Ed Joyce (who hopefully might be again available for the World Cup next year for us).
If Niall O'Brien rediscovers his form, or William Porterfield has another fine season in county cricket and with Ireland, or if any of our young players contracted to county sides now reach their undoubted potential, they'll end up being poached by England too. The ICC needs to provide a framework for Ireland and other associate nations to follow to give them a chance to develop into a test playing nation. I think the main stumbling block for Ireland is the lack of a quality stadium and most likely, the fans to fill it!

It just makes a complete joke of 'international' cricket. The country means nothing. It is just like club football.

I could indeed.
But....that is how sport is nowadays. With so much money to be earned national boundaries do not matter.
South Africans can make easy money playing cricket for England and New Zealanders can do the same at rugby. Look at the Italian Rugby team. Some most un Italian names and accents.
But worst of all is the despicable behaviour of one small nation poaching the young soccer players developed by their northern neighbours at great cost.........
Totally below the belt.

I'm know i've missed loads but i've got an annoying little toad of a man at work who goes on about how great England cricket is so i tried to dig up as many names as i could, but i did find an article that said -
16 were born in India, 11 in the West Indies, 10 in South Africa and nine in Australia as well as picking players born in Germany, Italy, Hong Kong, Denmark, Kenya, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
England? More like Rest of World! Kind of makes Jacko Army look like childs play eh?

Re: Its Just Not Cricket!
Our favorite Irish cricketer Mr Morgan digs England out of a hole today to beat South Africa with a fine knock of 63. So the Twenty20 tournament starts tomorrow. Looking forward to Ireland v England on May 4. Its just a pity that Dublin born and bred Morgan - our best player - will be playing for England against us ....

Re: Its Just Not Cricket!
Agreed Jayo, if we had Morgan still playing with us I'd quite fancy a few upsets again. We haven't been able to find any great consistency so far in the warm up games, though that has often been the case in the past. George Dockrell and Paul Stirling have looked really good, and they're only in their teens, both super prospects. If they keep going the way they are, they'll be next to be poached, Stirling already is signed with Middlesex.
Have a cheeky bet on Ireland to beat England though, more out of loyalty than expectation, but ya never know!

Eoin Morgan hits 130 against Pakistan in his maiden test .... great talent but how can he be allowed play for England. I know we don't have a first class test side but its still all wrong!

BB senior lived in Kilkenny in the early eighties (across the road from the castle) right in the heart of James Stephens country ( We lived near there for a few years)
Don't know if he moved back before the Childer were born or not
On reflection I'd guess that he did

I know that HG - doesn't make it right that a player can just go play for anyone though - its a load of ***** tbh! Athletics went the same way years ago with Africans emigrating to Scandinavia and rich Arab states trying to buy medals from Africa too. Football is at it now with 'naturalised' South Americans popping up all over Europe. International sport will soon be like club sport where the richest will 'buy' the best to represent their country. Thank God for the GAA!

Re: Its Just Not Cricket!
Whats the story with England V Pakistan
Firstly I haven't heard of most of them and even more bizarre england are stuffing them
I first went to a test Match(with an Aunts husband (brit) in the late 80's at the Oval England Versus Pakistan Javed Mianded batted for a half a week and got a double century and became my hero due to the anti-brit in me
After that I always had an interest in the Pakistan team - Waqar Younis, Imran Kahn, Wasim Akram, Inzamim Al haq, samlim Malik.
To be honest after that to keep on the good side of the uncle in law I followed cricket quite closely for years but always waiting for the brit bashing highlights always my favourites being the bowlers who could bash england to humility- Malcom Marshall, Curtley Ambrose, Abdul quadir, Richard Hadlee, McDermott, Donald, Warne, Merv hughes, Glen mcgrath, Jason Gillespie.
