The current Government...half time assesment.
Midway through their 5 year stint, the chosen 15 are lagging badly behind team Opposition at half-time.
It's only fair that we as GAA people should take a look at matters during the break while the warriors suck their oranges, indulge in a smoke break and lick their wounds.
1. John Gormley. The Green giant badly at fault for the first goal. Bogged down in a rake of rubbish in the small square his sandaled feet were stuck to the ground as Bruton the younger incinerated him...2.
2. Brian Cowen. Withdrawn from M/F when regular corner-boy Ahern, limped off the portly Biffo is badly off the pace here.
Allowing the much lighter Kenny take sly skelps off him....3.
3. Brian Lenihan. Recalled to the 3 jersey to shore up a leaking defence Lenihan has been tremendous. Sure fielding and ruthless tackling have seen off the twin threats of Seanie Fitz and Mickey Fingleton. A rosebush growing on a dunghill.. His performance so far, while carrying a bad injury, has ensured the MOM award so far and secured the All Star..9.
4. Mary Hanafin. Terrible stuff from the normally waspy witch. Paddy Doleman giving her a major headache here...3.
5. Noel Dempsey. The Meathman is coping bravely but vainly here with a rake of tormentors. As Tom Waters tore through the defence and Jack Frost engulfed our forces Noel sought to hide away in Malta..Untypical for a Meathman...5.
6. Mary Coughlan. The lovely Mary is having problems at CHB. The smaller Mick O'Leary is outfoxing her for every ball and putting her to flight with ease.. Selectors will be having a hard look at this one...3.
7. Martin Cullen. Our Minister for fun and football is out of his depth but then it's not that great anyway. Small of mind and stature, Cullen is not a team player and is frequently seen on solo runs down dark alleys...2
8. Eamon Ryan. Another Green clubman, Ryan rode in looking fit and lean but the jump from junior to senior has been too much for this tree hugging merchant...3.
9. Eamon O'Cuív. Our bogs and stone walls Minister has failed to make use of his height advantage and clearly is failing to communicate on the same wavelength with team members...Hold on.. Is he here at all??? ..1.
10. Dermot Ahern. Not doing too badly but again it's the "taking no prisoners" issue that's proving his downfall. Tigerish from the Dáil, his form has not fully transferred to the pitch but will start the 2nd. half....4.
11. Batt O'Keeffe. The burly Batt is in his 1st. season as Senior and inexperience is showing. Gaining useful possession Batt then changes the flow of play into reverse mode before ultimately losing the ball...May go on strike yet...3.
12. Michéal Martin. Back in the country for the odd day the "heavy" travel load is telling on Michéal. Smooth movement, slick one-touch flicks but only 2 points from frees to show...May side with Batt on the strike issue...4
13. Mary Harney. The bulwark of the team for many years, a recent wrist injury (4 days in A&E) has seen Mary shuffle up to corner forward. The Winter conditioning programme appears to have been a success but the number of un-treated injuries are telling against her...2.
14. Brendan Smith. Well what can we say about our Cavan friend?....Abuse not allowed because of location..Was spotted at the ploughing match in wellies...enough to merit a ...2.
15. Willie O'Dea. Much was expected from the Limerick shooter and what have we got? I'm not too sure really because Dilly swore he'd bag 2 at least and all we've had are "mature recollection" type repositionings...May be replaced....2

Not sure about this, ineffective as the current mob clearly are, the opposition inspire about as much confidence as a Kilkenny man trying to kick a football. Gilmore maybe might do something if given a shot but unfortunately that Mayo plank stands idly in the way.

Overall playing very poorly as individuals and as a team. Due for relegation I am afraid.
No 10 tries hard but others useless and as for the no. 3 he will only pass the ball to the big lads and thinks the players who need help and encourgement are beneath him.
No. 15 has just joined Justin McCarthy's panel as rules adviser.

Re: The current Government...half time assesment.
Goalie and No 8 in midfield are playing much better than they being given credit for. Very innovative and some fresh thinking but a lot of their deeds are not noted by those who report on the games cos they are lazy and don't know what to be looking out for. A bit like Kevin Myers reporting on rugby.

Re: The current Government...half time assesment.
Whilst the full back has been the strongest performer - I think this needs to be analysed a bit more critically.
I see a bit of a Francie Bellew about this - clearly will generally come out on top of any man to man duel
and solid as a rock under the high ball I think it is also fair to say that at the same time he is not an natural footballer which is something that can come to light on the big stage.
Also questionable is his reliance on a poor backroom team- With the benefit of hindsight some of his big game calls have been based on poor homework by his stats and analyst team.

Overall the team has been together too long. Obviously not training has hard as they used to and became too cocky about achieving four in a row. Switches made in recent years have been a disaster. No. 3 m.o.m? Really out of his depth and would not even have him looking after the scoreboard as the the result could be at least 20 points out. Ideal man though for explaining a defeat as very good at bulls***t. Player manager should really have retired over a year ago due to losing the dressingroom.Only player that should hold his place is Martin as he is quite good at blaming his fellow players for a bad pass. I believe there is a very poor underage structure so it could be many years before they are in contention again.
