Pivotal position but who was the best you ever saw?

McGeeney certainly would have to be considered, but I always thought that Henry Downey, at his best, was just as good. I'd also consider Stephen O'Brien, who was as versatile a defender as there was in the late 80s and early 90s.

Glen Ryan, Moynihan (if you chose to play him there) or even Conor Gormley would all be in the debate.

Henry Downey was as good as most and inspirational; to boot with some great scores.

McGeeney maybe sneeks it.

In this position I can think of about 7 absolutely brilliant hurlers.

Going with Gerry O'Malley from Roscommon here...quality, durability and leadership abilities un-paralled in modern times....

Current Armagh boss O' Rourke deserves a mention here - also Noel Mc Ginn of Tyrone
