Re: Gaelic County teams 2010
Based on evidence witnessed on Sunday I have no problem with that 15 JB.
The old story...no scoring forwards...Mickey D from Bornacoola would add a bit of muscle but maybe too much "passion".
Won't feature with the pair of bucks tho'....

Berry and Dowd will be a huge loss. Can't see them getting out of Division 4 and can't see them upsetting Louth in the Championship either.
Don't let the door hit you on the way out Mr Ryan.
Why won't dowd figure?
Berry will be back come summer, take my word for it.

I wasn't sure if he was back with them or not cos I heard from a reliable source that he was considering moving to a club out of the county.
Dowd has had a long term back injury and has retired from inter-county. We really need Berry back as he was our best player by a mile last year.

He was on the bench for the Connacht Final last year and started against us on Sunday, scored a point too if memory serves. In fact he was all set to start the Connacht Final last year until MacGarrity's last minute 'miraculous' recovery from a broken jaw sustained only a week beforehand. Nothing wrong with him as far as I can see. In fact I'd happily swap him for Barry Cullinane any day of the week if Swinny can arrange it
Pure lack of a good attitude at county level IMO. he had a fantastic debut season but when he didnt get a contract in the AFL after playing over in OZ for Ireland he was very disappointed.
He's been playing some great stuff for Charlestown over the last few years, I would just love to see him replicate that at county level cause he has the capabilities to be the next Darragh O'Se or Ciaran Whealan and could be one of the players who makes a difference when it comes to Mayo actually winning an All-Ireland.
Unfortunatly, more often than not since his debut season we get performances like the one against Meath last August which was embarrassing to watch, I can only imagine what it was like to be the man top put in that performance.
as for Cullinane, NO THANKS!
Re: Gaelic County teams 2010
Shinners, why no Cian Mimnagh in there? One of Longford's best players last year, especially against Kerry. based on recent club/county form id have him in ahead of Kavanagh!

It wont change much from last year I wouldn't think.
There have been a few new faces on the panel this year, replacing Thomas Walsh in midfield is going to be the big problem.
I havent heard much about McGrath this year don't know if he is still with the county, but he is a very quick forward.

Magpie - it will be interesting to see 2nd (or 3rd??) season syndrome with Wicklow this year. There is a great spread on the county team now instead of west or east etc - be interesting to see how it goes. I don't think Micko is taking the League too seriously.

Re: Gaelic County teams 2010
No, he has never seem to of taken the league seriously at all.
It will be interesting to see how many of the players he is using for the league, will actually get a run come championship.
There doesn't seem to be aby great 'find' from the Senior Club Championship, although Kavanagh from Rathnew has been drafted onto the panel, he had a good season partnering Stafford and went on to win the championship with Rathnew, he seems to have a good pair of hands.
On another note, there does seem to be a spread across the county player wise.
It will be interesting to see if it will continue on when Micko leaves.
My guess would be that Kevin O'Brien will take over the reins, a Baltinglass man I think we will see a lot more players from the west on the team then.

Not sure about the politics RM but in the 70s, 80s and early 90s Baltinglass were the team in Wicklow and the power base was in the west. In recent years Rathnew have been the dominant force and St Pats in Wicklow town have enjoyed some success. Between the 3 clubs they have over 50 county titles!

Re: Gaelic County teams 2010
Unfortunately there is no Kevin O Brien in the team.
The closest we have to that would be Leighton Glynn.
Never had the pleasure myself of watching Kevin play, but have heard all the stories
Leighton is a proper workhorse, I would hate to be the person that marks him, he covers a lot of ground in every match.
At the end of the season there he played a club football match for Rathnew, think it was the 125 final, and then got changed into his Glenealy gear to line out for his hurling team, which he was top scorer in the game.

In picking a Dublin team? Really?

Re: Gaelic County teams 2010
Dublin's team is one of the easiest to pick, as they have been fairly consistent with selection throughout the league.
Barring injuries, 11-12 of them will be the team that started against Tyrone. The only likely changes would be:
Cluxton for Savage in goals;
Cahill or O'Carroll for Casey (more likely Cahill);
Alan Brogan for Corkery.
McAuley's last 2 games have probably been worthy of a midfield place, but Gilroy has started the same midfield in every league match, so it is safe to assume that he will stick with it for a while longer.

Re: Gaelic County teams 2010
I'd expect the Monaghan team that meets Armagh/Derry to look alot like this, providing a full panel to pick from:
Shane Duffy
Dessie Mone
JP Mone
Dermot McArdle
Gary McQuaid
Darren Hughes
Damien Freeman
Eoin Lennon
Dick Clerkin
Stephen Gollogly
Paul Finlay
Rory Woods
Conor McManus
Vinny Corey
Tommy Freeman
I think Banty will pretty much keep with the tried and tested for this game, though a few of the young lads are definately pushing close to a starting spot; Colm Greenan at corner-back, Colin Walshe or Kieran Hughes at wing-back, and Dermot Malone at wing-forward. Personally I'd rather see one of the young backs in for Damien Freeman, or Malone at wing-forward with Vinny moving back to the half-back line and Woods into full-forward. A good while before this game though so anything can happen yet.

Well Tc i don't agree there will be a lot of players giving a chance in Leinster...Its on going i've been told that there is players that didn't start any matchs in the league that will be part of the championship squad...

Yep I think Gilroy has a few tricks up his sleeve still. Granted the C'ship is now upon us but I reckon he will try things in June on the basis that if we lose in Leinster it would probably go down OK with a lot of Dub supporters and if the experiments work and we win then he's win - win anyway!

Re: Gaelic County teams 2010
Mullins/Jayo, you might both be right, but I really can't see many changes for Dublin at the start of the championship.
Surely the one of the main reasons for changing the style of play and picking a pretty consistent side in the league was to rebuild confidence. I'd say that morale in the Dublin camp is higher now than it has been for some time, and a large part of that would be down to consistency of system and personnel.
Mullins talks about several players to return, but I'd be curious to know who they are, and whose place they are likely to take for the start of the championship. I can't believe that Gilroy has crafted a new side and style of playing during the league, beating Tyrone & Kerry along the way, only to throw it out the window again in the championship. Still, I guess we will see what happens against Wexford.

life can be a real bitch sometimes - tough luck on the lad, coming back once is tough having to do it twice is nearly worse as he knows whats ahead of him.
best wishes on a speedy recovery, he looked a decent footballer before the injury last year.
