Rich womens football in the last 5 years have tied itself under the GAA umbrella. They have different governing bodies but the are all under the one umbrella now.rich dublin wrote:SamiPremier08 wrote:JimWexford wrote:got 4 Camogie comes under hurling as ladies football comes under football- different governing bodies but in effect the same.
Missing one Sami
ah right thought that might be the case to be honest, can't think of anymore then, unless it's athletics but they stopped doing that years back I'm sure. Not road bowls?
sorry jim womens football does not come under football it is a total different organization that operates outside the gaa, comagie however does come under the gaa heading

thats a tad harsh Rich - the standards of ladies football are quite high and getting better as each year passes - especially at club level.

Get to fook Sami, no ones 'bullying' anyone. Christ you need to lighten up lad.
Myself and Jimbo were simply jostling for position. He and I are well able to take the knocks. In fact the way Jim posts is a bit like the Liam Dunne hurled, scattered and all over the place but pretty lethal all the same. Coincidince?

only messing mate, have seen a lot of women s matches and the standard has improved no end though it still baffles me how the skill level is so poor to me its like watching TG4 re-runs of all-ireland matches from the 70's and 80's, good scores good play but really basic errors all over the place.

Re: Steps required to save hurling:
One massive disadvantage is the lack of financial support the GAA gives to small clubs. Hurling is the first thing in a small club to get the boot due to the massive cost level attached to it, especially over here in the UK!
Where i'm based, i have managed to get a youth system back in place for the club after 20 years of nothing, it's only football at the moment and only will be as we simply can't afford to start kids playing hurling.
The kids love playing football, but there is much more interest in hurling in the area where my club is based from both the parents and kids, who believe it or not watch Gaelic games on Sky. In my adpoted county, the last hurling and camogie finals were played in the mid to late 1990s, since then there has been nothing, mainly due to the cost to the clubs at the time.
Wheather you like it or not, it's cheaper and easier for small clubs to keep football going, leaving less and less playing hurling, and the less there is playing the worse the standard will get. It's up to the GAA to sort the mess out, but fining or imposing scanctions on clubs that do not play hurling is not the answer.
To be honest, the GAA make pretty much nothing out of the Championships below the McCarthy Cup, and could easily cut the tournaments but they know of the outcry this would cause. The only thing the GAA is interested in is the County sides playing in and filling Croker on a weekly basis, they don't care about the small clubs that are struggling to play the games they love, if they did they would have made steps to improve things years ago!

Re: Steps required to save hurling:
There's a few clubs in Yorks Sami, but i wouldn't be too sure as to where they are compared to you. Clubs are mostly based in Huddersfield and Leeds but i don't think any of them play Hurling. You could try the Yorkshire GAA website, but it's just being developed at the moment [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] or get in touch with the Development officer on this address [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] He may be able to help you.

thanks BE, I have looked before but it's never really come to anything. Will try again though to see if there's anymore options available. Leeds/Huddersfield are about an hour/hour and half's drive from me so it would probably be a bit too far to travel at the moment. I'm hoping however to start playing when I have finished GCSEs, maybe go over an the train or something.

They have a pretty good youth setup in Yorkshire Sami so it would definately be worth your while getting in touch with the CDA for more info.

Yeah there is the Young Irelands in Leeds NSG, but it looks like they are only football. I have left them a message anyway - will see if they get back to me.
