McEntee Twins Call It A Day
so the McEntee twins have decided to end their illustrious careers with Crossmaglen. Personally i think they had more to offer the game for the club but they felt that they were delaying the development of younger players within the club by staying on.
They were two greats of the game - two super footballers and two gentlemen as well. They took some abuse as players for club and county but never ever dished out to much retaliation. They were a credit to themselves and their families for the way they conducted themselves on the field of play.
Enjoy the retirement lads you have deserved it - no doubt we will see both of you on the sideline as managers before long.

I would think it wont be too long untill they are involved in management. Two legends of Armagh football. They will always be extremely well thought of in Armagh at least.

Samin I'd go as far as to say they are well thought of throughout the island of Ireland - they were two hard but fair footballers - wonderfully talented and very committed. Only pity was they didnt come from Tyrone.

I too, would like to concur with Boc's sentiments on this one. Grand pair of footballers and quiet, modest lads in person.
The sight of John's languid "citeoig" lofting a raker over from 50 yds. was always worth the ticket price.
They don't owe Cross or Armagh anything, that's for sure.

John scored one of the all time great points to beat Enniskillen Gaels in the ulster final one day at Clones, back in.......God the old memory is going. I was the mini bus driver in those days.

So one retires from intercounty - the other follows, one retires from Cross - the other follows, if one put his hand in the fire.... ?
In all seriousness, its a shame to see the 2 of them retire. They both gave great service and loyalty to their club which is no mean feat in an era where players leave their native clubs for the sake of a new fitted kitchen or a car.
Will they follow Geezer into management? Time will tell.

thye will eventually Shinners - i'd expect them to earn their spurs managing Cross in the not too distant future, and that will surely see one of them (at least) wear the bainisteoir bib for Armagh some day.
I do find their reasons for retiring a bit bizarre to be honest they are only 32 years old and for two guys who never touched the booze and looked after themselves i'd say they are in fairly good nick fitness wise, but to say they are retiring to clear the decks for a younger generation doesnt add up. Firstly there are guys on that Cross team this year who are older - Donaldson was 36 and team captain - and secondly young guys coming through need someone on the team to give them a bit of direction whilst they find their feet in senior club football.
I dont think we've seen the last of those two guys in the Cross jersey, something tells me they'll do a Lazarus to help Cross out in their hour of need.
