6 Nations
Just watched England v Italy and I have to say, I am not convinced by England at all. Andy Goode blew his chance and Cipriani should be back in the next day. If England had played a stronger team, they could've really been in trouble as most of their scores came from Italian mistakes.
I also watched Ireland v France and was thrilled with the Irish win. The Leinster lads really stood up to be counted today and showed the Munster boys (who in my opinion Paul O'Connell aside were very quiet today) what they're made of.
The pundits are really losing the run of themselves considering there are still 4 more games to go but although it is a good start to the campaign, it will all have been in vain if they do not kick on from here to win the Grand Slam.

Re: 6 Nations
England were a shambles. The mojority of their points came from Italian mistakes and when, particularly in the second half, they should have been making plays - actually playing rugby - they weren't. at times the made Italy look the better side.
thrilling win for Ireland but rugby definately needs to move back to Landsdowne ASAP - the atmosphere in Croker did not do a lot for the game today.
Ireland looking strong but the away trip to Scotland and probably Italy as well will be difficult. I think we can beat England at Croker, it's Wales that will be the telling match.
Will have to wait til tomorrow and see what form Wales and Scotland are on before we know for certain, but Ireland are looking good.
And about time too!

Re: 6 Nations
Oh jeez, the country is starting to get carried away with the joke that is the nation's rugby team again. Thought we might have learned our lesson after the World Cup. I was in the bookies the other day and some lad asked the young one behind the counter, what odds are Ireland for the Grand Slam? I had to leave the shop in fits of laughter. Its not hard to see why, in the current economic climate, the bookies are still turning over enormous profits.

Back OT I have to say that I really really enjoyed the game today. I'm not a massive Rugby fan and I rarely find myself getting big into games but today was brillant. Qualilty rugby played at a break-neck pace. Inspirational scores and a fantasitic victory for Ireland. I'd agree with Loyal that we shouldn't count our chickens before they hatch in realtion to the Grand Slam but at the same time, that was a quality performance!!

what i'm saying is that Ireland are looking good. it's still early days isn't it? maybe if we all had a bit of believe in our teams then they would get the silverware? the performance by Ireland today was inspirational and we should all get behind the lads with passion and support them all we can.

Re: 6 Nations
Was there today - all wrapped up. Great game and such a contrast from last Saturday! Funny when ya think - two great sporting occasions in the same stadium seven days apart - but completely different.
For me - and I have been to every rugby game in Croker - the atmos just does not get there. The Eng game two years ago was magic - but the Wales/Italy/Scotland games last season were awful in terms of atmosphere - and play mind you.
Even the All Blacks was poor. Today was a little better but still nothing like a Dub c'ship game in Croker.
Still a great win and I have to say Rob Kearney produced some of the finest fielding I have ever seen in Croker.

Re: 6 Nations
What can I say about Ireland today?
Truely magnificent! 10 months ago everyone thought Ireland were goners....How wrong they were. I dont think today was the real test for Ireland though. Wales will play a more open and free flowing game whereas Ireland will play a close tight game so that Shane Williams' options are limited.
My man of the match today was Ferris, he worked hard to get passed the defence and it was also nice to see BOD and Gordon D score a try.

Re: 6 Nations
Its looking good lads. Wales are so up their own holes its driving me mental. I would shout for England over Wales anydays. Cant abide those sheep molesting neandrethals
Keep Lee Byrne quiet, hit Hook hard and early and its looking good
Will be interesting if MJ persists with Andy Foode at 10, would bring Cips or even Geraghty in there if I were them. The 2 Armitages look quality but with Borthwick as captain and no locks to speak of, England are poor.
Scotland are pirennial losers at this stage. Every year people say "This year Scotland will come good". They wont. Straight up. World Class 9, good players in Hines and Murray but after that....i mean frank haddon dropped CP for DP....That is suicidal!
Its there for us lads. It really is
Believe!
Shinners....there is a reason those Leinster backs play better for Ireland....its cos they have the Munster backs giving them a platform. Rocky Elsom and JH aside, Leinster are piss poor up front

Not sure if this should go here or the "Say something controversial thread" but Munster are over-rated. There, I said it.

2 HC's in 3 years, a third on the way, countless finals and semi finals....

Re: 6 Nations
yes get it on my thread!
as a Munster fan, I feel that they are most certainly not over rated in Europe, but when it comes down to Domestic games in the Magners league they seem to lose an awful lot of games they shouldnt.
they are the rugby equivelent of liverpool - great in Europe, dodgy at home.

Re: 6 Nations
Sam, its like this
Munster are a top team. Europes top team. They priorotise the HC , the big prize. They see the ML as a stepping stone and a place to blood young players and give the likes of Neil Ronan, Donnacha Ryan, Denis Hurley, Freddie etc game time, so that when they are needed for the big games, they are ready.
Leinster are a second rate outfit, full of talk and media love, some superb individuals but NO back bone (where have i heard this before )
They cant/wont win the HC so they priorotise the ML and when they win it treat it like the equal of winning the HC and berate munster for not "paying it the respect it deserves"
Basically Leinster are a decent outfit, Munster are on another level altogether.

Re: 6 Nations
heyhey liam when did i bring leinster into it? i was merely making a point of my opinion. Yes a good opportunity for new players, i agree - fair point. But I'd still like to see my team win more domestic games... Anyway i don't trust you anymore after the trauma of the whole Stacey thing...

Not even denying it!!! But then again, 90% of Rugby fans would be. Nothing wrong with it tho, nothing atall. Just means the HC/Munster Brand Machine is very effective.
All supporters of any team bandwagoned at some stage

LOL Good man Liamo. The old Munster story of recent years is a good one all right. There's something about the whole set up down there that makes it very appealing. The passion and sense of community that exists among the players and the fans is incredible.
There is something very "Irish" about Munster. Dunno if I explain it exactly.

Re: 6 Nations
u cant explain it, try being me! Die hard Dub, die hard. Yet when it comes to Rugby I would be Munster 100% all the way.
Celebrated like a lunatic the night Munster beat Leinster in the SF in 06
I know I know....but I reckon its cos I only really got into Rugby in the last ten years and I have been living in Limerick all that time, so it was inevitable ya know. Add to that the fact that so many Leinster fans really are R.O.C.K type knobs, I could never support that,
