Cyprus v Ireland
Well are we in for another 5 goal drubbing or are we going to find two midfielders somewhere between now and Saturday?
I have to say Cyprus at 3-1 is an unbelievable punt! Get on it and earn enough to drown your sorrows!!

I predict a boring and unentertaining 1-1 draw. Yet more dispair ahead for our nation.

Re: Cyprus v Ireland
I have to confess I hope Cyprus win 7-0.
The stabbing of Mick McCarthy, after the service he gave, and the support for the arch betrayer, Mr Keane, turned me completely against them.
The "fans" singing "there's only one team in Ireland" when the were lucky enough to beat the "real" Irish team, well I never forgot that.
How the worm has turned now.

I try to stay away from soccer, most boring, over paid bunch of women "Argghh ive broke a nail" pansies you could ever watch on TV. I would rather watch my dog trying to chase its tail around the living room.

"There's only one team in Ireland".
Our boys sitting at the top of the table, my beloved Italy two up thanks to dodgy own goals, Cyprus back level, life is good.
Why are some of the Republic fans wearing Scottish club jerseys? Wouldn't catch our fans doing that.

What can ye say ....... The brother reckons the only way we'll get to South Africa is to sign up with Niall Mellon! He may be right!
Trapp is a lucky manager. How can you possibly win a game with O'Shea and Kilbane in your team? I reckon Stephen Hawkins should look into this.

Re: Cyprus v Ireland
My point was, we are crap but still unbeaten. Not many teams get away with that. best runner up team gets automatic qualification. Cant see Ireland losing to Italy at home, then again that was said about Cyprus a few years ago.
Re: Cyprus v Ireland
Still having a go at O'Shea JC, leave the lad alone! Although if he was crap in this game then fair enough, had a match tonight so didn't see the game. Sounds like it was poison alright but sure we won! I'd still rather a World Cup with Ireland in it (albeit dire to watch), than no involvement, gives an extra interest and buzz about it.

Ah sure if that's the case then there's no changing your mind! But he has improved alot over the year year and is a damn sight better than whoever would be next in line anyway. Agree re Kilbane though, can't understand how he is still playing.

Ah maybe I am a bit harsh on O'Shea - but I really dunno how he has carved out a career at Man U - suppose you have to admire him for that.

Well that's true, he has done fierce well for himself in that regard! Ferguson obviously likes the fella aswell as him being very flexible and always willing to plug gaps whenever needed and not complain. I think all teams that has such a long season needs players like these, and they all contribute to a teams success in some small way.

Re: Cyprus v Ireland
Yep his versatility is what has worked well for him ... a bit like Phil Neville. Not the most outstanding player but offered lots of cover and options.

Re: Cyprus v Ireland
Yeah similar types of player, only difference is Phil eventually wanted out for more football, John's content where he is! I suppose why would he leave, especially seeing as he seems to have nailed down a regular spot in defence now.

Re: Cyprus v Ireland
John O'All Trades, master of none!
He's a very good footballer, and possibly one of the best "all-rounders" that we have. He could probably play in any position for Ireland (he has for United, even in goals) and do fairly well, but will rarely be the best in any one position.
He's probably the best partner we have for Richard Dunne, but the lack of a decent right back means he has to play there instead.
Incidentally, was in Cyprus for last week, and met the players in Larnaca airport on Saturday night after the game. A few of them (won't name names) were the stereotypical big-headed gits that you'd expect, but Trappatoni, Given, big John and the Duffer all acquitted themselves very well in their dealings with the Irish people in the airport.

wouldnt mind earning the money he is getting Jayo........
I actually dont think he is too bad a footballer - there are a lot worse about his big problem is because he is so versatile he never really gets to shine in any one position

Re: Cyprus v Ireland
John O'Shea is the 10th best right back in Manchester.
Well I don't know who plays right back for St Kentigern's these days so I am giving him the benefit of the doubt.
