Ladies Football hotting up
The Quater Finals begin tonight with Mayo taking on Tyrone and the Galway Girls(minus their best player Una Carroll) out to prove their victory in Connacht was no fluke against an experienced Monaghan side in Ballymahon.
Next week all powerful Cork entertain Kildare while the Kerry/Dublin ladies will give their own rendition of this classic fixture.
Cork will be hard to stop again this year but its up to improving sides like Galway and Dublin to reach their level and surpass it. Old stalwarths Mayo cannot be dismissed just yet either.
All games from here on in to be shown live on TG4

Re: Ladies Football hotting up
Tyrone are doing their level best to kick themselves out of this game against Mayo - alot of poor decision making leading to an array of wides which we will probably end up regretting when the game is over. It will be a tough second half playing against that wind.
Tyrone are missing one of their best players in Neamh Woods who is currently in the Cool Islands captaining Northern Ireland netball team, she normally plays at No 6 and is a good steadying influence on those around her a good ball winner and a great athlete to boot (as well as being quite good looking - some girls have everything )
Tyrone have it all to do in the second half with only a 3 point lead despite playing with a strong wind.

I see Mayo won by a goal, didn't see the game but seems like they just wore down Tyrone in the end, and the earlier wides cost them in the end like Boc predicted.
Good win in a tight match for our girls there, the McNally sisters are a very big loss but good to see them grind out the win.

i wouldnt say wore them down MMM they got goals at the right time and Tyrone couldnt manage to get through for any majors - that said the Mayo keeper pulled off a super save with only a minute or two left which would have put Tyrone back in the mix. We are too reliant on numbers 11 and 15 for scores and as i said the number of wides we kicked in the first half came back to haunt us as the end.
That was a great win for Monaghan but the big test for any team remaining will be the lassies from Cork.

Ah right, as I say I didn't see it but after seeing that Tyrone were leading early on had hoped they'd hold out. Cork are the big test surely, not sure if anyone can stop them.

Congrats to Monaghan, gutted though for Galway, truth be told. Knokced out of another chsip to day by a point, hurlers lost to a last mi nute goal to KK. Just not our year . Such is the nature of sport, but try telling that to certain people's involved!
ps, whoever came up with the drug testing laws or their administration after a match seriously needs shooting! The c***s just havn'y a clue

Re: Ladies Football hotting up
Cork looked very impressive today but still look like they can put it up a notch if the need to.
Clare are hoping to go one better than last year in the intermediate and after their dismissal of Waterford today, they should be well placed to win the Mary Quinn Cup this year.
Next weekend sees Longford take on Fermanagh in the other intermediate semi final and Dublin take on last years senior runners-up Monaghan in a double header in Ardee.

Re: Ladies Football hotting up
More heart break for the Dubs today - so near and yet so far. I have to say i didn't think they deserved to lose today but all credit to Cork who tucked over a few points when it mattered most.
It was a good game of football and credit to both teams - although Dublin played the better football they could never shake of the rebelettes and put any distance between the two teams. Dublin looked the fitter of the two teams, they certainly worked harder anyway and yet their fitness was their undoing as they appeared to run out of steam in the last 6-7 minutes.
A missed penalty in the first half for Dublin turned out to be crucial though in fairness both teams were guilty of some bad wides throughout the game and Cork could easily have had 2 more goals in the first half.
Hard luck Dublin and congratulations to the Cork ladies for completing 5-in-a-row. Congratulations also to Antrim (yet another title for the msot successful Ulster county ever) and Clare

Lack of confidence/tiredness need for the Dubs in the last ten minutes as they resorted to a few aimless high balls sent up in hope.I actually thought they were the better side.
Antrim's continued success and diversity has been noted.

Note mongahan women Grainne on the half team interview slot
Was at her Nuptuals back in the day
Certainly she is the Second most famous McElwaine from McEagueville (Scotstown)
Funny name for a place my memories of lowering pints of stout in Moynas cetainly did not suggest that it was place that welcomed those of plantation stock

Ive drank in every corner of this island and can safely say that Moyna's would rank as one of the most hostile places to sup the devils buttermilk - Interestingly enough a certain silver medallist from the south east is married into clan Moyna- Interesting family - Athletes in law, Proffessors of sport and "US exiles" -
Not too many pubs where one can shoot pool - Listen to higher education on all matters sporting - and buy an RPG
