Kerry v Roscommon minors
can anyone on here shed light on the goings on in this game last week - there was quite a bit of confusion during the week concerning the number of subs Kerry had made during the course of the game and extra time. At one stage it looked like Roscommon were going to appeal and could even have been awarded the game on a technicality.
However i read in the Independent yesterday that Roscommon had decided not to appeal as it appeared that after trawling through the rule books and following advise from Croke Park it was deemed that Kerry had in fact done nothing wrong.
The crux of the confusion concerned substitutions Kerry made before extra time started and from my understanding from reading the article it appears that a player who did not start the original game but is then introduced in the interval between the original game ending and extra time starting is not classed as an actual substitute. It appears Roscommon county board were not aware of this rule and i have say nor was I. I not convinced that Kerry knew too much about it either and have been fortunate to get of with what appeared to be an oversight on their behalf.
If thats the case surely teams could in theory start extra time with 15 completely different players.
Perhaps some of the guys on here like Jim or BE could shed some light on this one - or anyone else for that matter if you are up to date on this. I know a player who has received 2 yellow cards during normal time can play during extra time but i wasnt aware of this rule.
