Yep best of luck to Davy Harte and co in the football, hopefully they get another shot at taking down the ever-pompous Royals, this time with a full team and hopefully there will be no underhand roughhouse tactics from the Meath rugby players. This is of course assuming Meath get over Roscommon and dont get annihilated again by Limerick.

GAA Hurling All Ireland Senior Championship Semi Finals
With
regard to the All-Ireland Hurling semi final and the potential for a
draw to determine the pairings, the following should be noted from the
motion passed at Special Congress last October:
The Provincial
Champions of Munster and Leinster shall be in separate Semi-Finals and
shall respectively play one of the two Quarter Final Winners. Subject
to the respective Provincial Champions not meeting the defeated
Finalists from their own Province at this stage and, where feasible,
the avoidance of Repeat Pairings, a draw shall be made to determine the
Pairings.
Depending on the winners of next weekend’s quarter finals the semi-final pairings will be as follows:
If Dublin and Waterford win (both Provincial Runners Up) then semi finals are Kilkenny v Waterford and Tipperary v Dublin
If Dublin and Galway win (Dublin Provincial Runners Up) then semi finals are Kilkenny v Galway and Tipperary v Dublin
If
Limerick and Waterford win (Waterford Provincial Runners Up) the semi
finals are Kilkenny v Waterford and Tipperary v Limerick
If Limerick
and Galway win (Both Provincial Runners Up eliminated – Galway
previously played Kilkenny) the semi finals are Kilkenny v Limerick and
Tipperary v Galway
Therefore no matter what combination of results on Sunday next there is no necessity for a Draw to determine the pairings.
In other words Come on Limerick!!

KENNEDY QUITS WATERFORD PANEL
20 July 2009
Waterford's preparations for Sunday's
All-Ireland hurling quarter-final against Galway have been hit by Jack
Kennedy's defection from the squad.
Kennedy was substituted
after 27 minutes of the Deise's Munster final defeat to Tipperary last
Sunday week and has opted off the panel since then. Kennedy is,
however, expected to continue playing with his club, Ballyduff Lower.
Waterford
manager Davy Fitzgerald is also sweating on the fitness of corner back
Noel Connors. The under 21 star limped out of training yesterday with a
knee injury and will have a scan today to ascertain the full extent of
the damage. Fitzgerald is already planning without Ken McGrath and Gary
Hurney due to knee and collarbone injuries respectively.

Mullane,Kelly,Prendergast and Molumphy and Walsh would be the danger men. Waterford's full back line looks weak.

Seriously weak, can't see Pender marking Joe tomorrow after his nightmare in the Munster Final, more likely Kearney will move to FB with Brick just in front as cover. Joe should still have too much strength for Kearny though and reckon hes up for a big performance tomorrow. Donnellann will revel in the extra space and can see him notching a goal or two as well.
At the other end its all about containing Mullane but Ollie had no problem doing that in the club Final and shouldn't have much trouble with him tomorrow either. Expect Waterford to improve from the Munster Final but Galways work ethic and greater physicality, not to mention their momentum should see them through with a bit to spare.

Re: Galway vs Waterford
Waterford have been the 3rd best, sometimes second best, side this decade. Only for the dreaded back door, introduced to help "lesser" counties, they would have won an all Ireland in 2004.
However, Dan the man was a great goal getter, but a mood player and over rated as a hurler. McGrath, their inspiration, is out injured, and one of my heroes, Paul Flynn, has left the scene.
So Waterford do not have the panel to cope with those losses. Mullane is proving me wrong by starrring every week, but they have too much to do here.
Nice to see Galway's star forward playing again, albeit at mid-field. I was beginning to think that Farragher had been lost as well as all the others over the years, the Gantleys springing to my mind, and Conor Donovan who looked the real thing in his minor final, against Waterford I believe. But thee have been loads of them.
At present, Galway are the only threat to Kilkenny, and Tipp must be hoping that the Dubs win the other game.
By the way, are the losers relegated?

Its an all-Ireland Quater Final, not a relegation play-off so, eh, no

Re: Galway vs Waterford
I notice you are still talking in tounges
Cant understand why the idea of relegation is beyond you so much to be honest. It works in most sports and is seen as a fair method of sorting teams of different standards. I suppose you'd be in favour of a closed shop super league in soccer as well as all the filthy rich clubs are demanding?
Your not even trying to access the benifits, as I said before a year in Christy Ring might be just the boot up the hole a county like Antrim needs, maybe they wont take so many holidays the next time their playing championship proper. And what good btw, did it do for Antrim this year being in the Liam McCarthy. A win by Laios followed by a terrible display to Dublin followed by a defeat to Laois when it really mattered. The only half decent win Antrim had all year was against Wexford in div 2 of the league and guess who their opponents are in the relegation play-off decider, holy fook its only Wexford!
So chin up there now lad you still have a chance.

Re: Galway vs Waterford
The GAA do not take the Christy Ring seriously, so Antrim would have even more players on holiday. The players feel Christy Cooney has screwed them, so don't care.
Look at the benefit Wicklow and Antrim got from the Tommy Murphy? What did the GAA do? Scrubbed it.
The GAA needs to seriously promote hurling, or shut up about it.
Imagine Wexford went down? Two years after being too good for Tipp. How is that a benefit to hurling?
Relegation is for leagues, not championship.

Re: Galway vs Waterford
The structures that are in place at the moment were
passed at congress. If the Antrim board or any other board had misgivings about the relegation system, then was the time to announce them. This did not happen. Now the s**t has hit the fan and certain counties are crying foul. This is nothing but sour grapes(It wasn't supposed to happen to us it was supposed to only happen to Laois!). Tough

Should be an good game tomorrow. Key battles will probably be between Brick Walsh and Donnellan and between Mullane and Canning. If Brick Walsh is getting on top of Donnellan I'd say the management won't hesitate to bring on Chunky Hayes. I'd say Niall Healy will be given 35 minutes to prove his worth, I hope he can prove himself and show that he is a good hurler. I hope we can beat a Waterford tommorrow.

Yeah its sh**e alright.Other than a dody wide or two Farragher made just one mistake all day and it ended up leading to Waterfords goal, they got a soft free just after that but their winning point was excellent, engineered brilliantly by Brick and finished with aplomb by Mullane, dems the bloody breaks though, and no complaints with the result
Fair play to Waterford, their leaders stood up when it really mattered. Thought Ollie should have been switched immidiatly to Dan Shanahan when he came on, or anyone, as McGentee was always gonna be suscepible to a former POTY coming on at such a critical stage of the match in his chship debut. Gantly should have replaced Healy at HT and Chunky should have been brought in earlier to consolidate Galways lead in the 2nd half but then I suppose Mcyntire thought we were containing them well enough at the time, although I thought myself we always looked vulnerable if Waterford got the goal.
No fun watching the teams you love lose by a point 3 times within 7 days, alas thats how it panned out for Galway this year.
