RIP Paidi O'Se
Paidi O'Se, a true GAA legend, has passed away this morning. Awful news.
Paidi was as charismatic off the field as he was swashbuckling on it. A real great of the game. Shocking stuff.
The below link summed him up. Hard as nails, and full of divilment. The momentary pause before he throws the left hook was pure P.Se - he know that striking would get him in bother, but thought 'to hell with it, Dinny deserves a smack anyway'! Paidi always did it his way, and he will be sorely missed.
RIP, P.Se

Re: RIP Paidi O'Se
Shocking news - a true legend on the field with a personality as large as his football ability.
My own memory , i was part of an entourage (say no more) that called in to his watering hole at the heart of the tiger era. We asked after fear an Ti who wasnt on site. We were told he would be summonsed. His daughter threw up a round and kept us tethered. Paidi landed gave us the personal tour - the stories behind the photos - organised a fishing trip for us next day and reorganised our accomodation. The crack was mighty - the bill was 3 times the market rate and rhe consensus was fair f/€ks to him.
Rest in peace

Re: RIP Paidi O'Se
Sad, sad news....Paidi and Boxty met on many memorable occasions, mainly in the halcyon days before the Celtic Tiger era, at FF Ard Fheissena.....Boxty might/may outrank him in terms of years, but his vision, penchant and desire for West Kerry never wavered.
He was possesssed of the standout quality....PASSION...
An irreplacable rogue, my condolences go to his wife Moira and their children...

Re: RIP Paidi O'Se
I got the message yesterday morning from a friend near Ventry. shocked. I was only talking to a man on Friday night who me him in Grafton St. earlier in the week. He was playing cards on Friday night and then passed away in his sleep. He was the rock of Kerry from 1975 to 1986. Was hard but a great footballer also. Many a sceal about Paidi but he will never be forgotten. Goodbye Paidi and enjoy the meeting with The Horse and John Egan. RIP.

Yes I was completely taken aback.Nice to see he was thought of. I see Micky Harte was down straight away on Saturday night. Great man. Burial this morning and there should be some congregation of greats.Thomas Clarke wrote:Nice touch to see Paidi honoured in the memorial section of the BBC SPOTY tonight.

Re: RIP Paidi O'Se
very sad to see another great of the game have their life cut short at such a relatively young age.
As Boxty says he was a passionate man and that was always evident in everything he done.
RIP Paidi and condolences to the O'Se family

Sad to see the death of the third member of this great team. He certainly was a character both on and off the field. Gone far too young - may he RIP.
(RTE are actually covering the funeral live on the web and their news channel).

Moving scenes all day from Ventry. A massive turnout as befitted Rí an Pharóiste and a tribute to his neighbors and friends who managed to marshal such a gathering with the utmost grace and dignity. Doubtless Paidi will be having a snifter, as he looks down from The Corporate section in the company of Tim Kennelly and John Egan. The bed of Heaven to them all.

RIP Liam O'Connor (Connor).
Pursuant on the passing of the late Paidi, the man who provided the final pass for the GAA's most remembered goal, Liam Connor has passed away.
He gave long and loyal service to his club Walsh Island and his native Offaly and was one of an extended family of Connors who drove Offaly relentlessy forward over a decade. His final delivery of the '82 final found the elusive Seamus Darby, who promptly killed the 5 in-a-row dream.

Re: RIP Paidi O'Se
Sad news indeed. More and more of the greats that I grew up watching starting to pass away. That was a fine Offaly team - incredible to see how far they have fallen since.
In the clip of the goal, as much as Darby looks to have pushed Tommy Doyle in the back when Liam Connor plays the ball in, it is perhaps significant that neither Doyle nor his colleagues made any complaint to the ref (Doyle actually hangs his head). Maybe the most famous goal in GAA history was legal after all.

Re: RIP Paidi O'Se
Kerry rarely, if ever complain in those kind of instances.
**The great Kingdom word, "Yerrah!" covers all matters of such nature. Yerrah is the Anglacised version of the Irish verb "hooragh" which indicates a pastime not for the eyes of young children and in the event of young Boc's or RMD's looking in, I won't explain in any further detail.
** This may or may not be totally true, but the gist is "reasonably" accurate.

Don't say that in front of Boc, or he'll remind you of the crying that was done after the 2003 AI semi final. And the 2005 AI final.Boxtyeater wrote:Kerry rarely, if ever complain in those kind of instances.
