Qualifiers Round 1 2012
I assume the draw will be made on Sunday - barring draws, we should all 16 teams in the hat. We know 13 already:
Westmeath
Louth
Wicklow
Laois
Longford
Cavan
Armagh
Antrim
Fermanagh
Tipperary
Waterford
London
Roscommon
A further 3 to be added from:
Meath or Carlow
Kildare or Offaly
Derry or Donegal
It looks a safe enough draw with probably Armagh and the losers of Derry/Donegal being the teams to avoid.
Louth and Longford will be sticky opponents too.

I agree totally. I doubt that any of them will make the quarter finals. Armagh the best of what is there.

Re: Qualifiers Round 1 2012
Have to agree with boxty here, bad bunch of teams involved!
First round senior football qualifiers draw:
Laois v Carlow
Westmeath v Louth
Roscommon v Armagh
Fermanagh v Cavan
Tipperary v Offaly
London v Antrim
Wicklow v Waterford
Longford v Derry
I find it hard to understand how Longford got the home advantage when Derry were pulled out of the hat first, this is a new season and just because some teams played away last year it somehow means they get a home draw this year! This means that Derry have to play both championship games away this season, we find it hard enough to get support at games never mind when we are away!

In fairness BE Ballybofey is not exactly a nine hour trek ....

It's not Celtic Park either Par, home advantage means a lot, especially to Derry and due to favours being done to teams who played away last year, it likely will be our last outting.

No one wants to see their county out of the championship, well except those who have holidays booked.........like the Derry senior squad!

Roscommon were abysmal against Galway, who in turn were easily dispatched by Sligo. Armagh will be more organised, fitter, and have more guts than them and, while they aren't great, I think that will be enough to get them through.

I'd have respect for your comment TC, but the Rossies have a certain pride too..They'll fancy this one, and on the day have better ammunition across the pitch..Shine didn't become a bad footballer overnight....

I don't know Boxty. I picked Roscommon over Galway, but I just sense a bit of, what shall we call it, 'Donegal of old' about them. Talented, but fond of the good life, short on grit, and high on false dawns. I hope I'm wrong, but I fear that the Armagh will have too much energy and work rate for them.

The shame about this game, is that both sides will be without their most gifted forwards. One has been lost to the dark side, and the other has decided to become a full time drinker again!

Fair point TC, but as their neighbour and victim of a fair few beatings you wouldn't write them off just yet...
The county of Jimmy Murray, Bill Carlos, The Chief of Staff and Tony McManus have it in them to overcome Armagh..

First round senior football qualifiers draw:
Laois v Carlow - Straight forward win for Laois
Westmeath v Louth - tough one to call Louth struggling to field a team while Westmeath getting hammered in challenge games i'll go for Louth.
Roscommon v Armagh - Roscommon would stand a chance if O'Donnell was still around but he isn't i expect another massacre Des Newton will leave after this game.
Fermanagh v Cavan - Another close one to call i'll side with Fermanagh
Tipperary v Offaly - Tipp looked decent v Kerry, Offaly are in awful shape at the moment. Tipp to win.
London v Antrim - I think we'll get a shock here a one point win for London.
Wicklow v Waterford - straight forward win for Wicklow
Longford v Derry - Another shock on the cards but after watching Derry last weekend would it really be a shock?
Armagh could go far the rest of them will do well to get past round 2 i feel.

Re: Qualifiers Round 1 2012
As good a draw as Cavan could have hoped for. Fermanagh are at our level and the game should be closely contested. The players were making the right noises after the Donegal game and the feeling seems to be that they are keen to give the qualifiers due attention. Brewster will hold nothing but happy memories for our young side and if we can overcome what seems to be a long injury list I don't see any reason why we couldn't get past Fermanagh.

Wouldn't be suprised to see Armagh beaten, they are the most inconsistent team. They can play great football one day and be absolutely cold and uninterested the next.

hard to see Fermanagh having any impact in the qualifiers without big Quigley.
He wouldnt work on batteries if the stories about him are to be believed. The Fermanagh guys at work tell a story that he works in a mushroom factory (or something along those lines) he was offered the day shift or night shift and opted for the night shift so he wouldnt have to go to County training.
Awful waste of a good talent if its true.

Yeah, the biggest shame from a Fermanagh perspective is that they don't have a remotely like-for-like replacement. Bigger counties could forget about him easily, but Fermanagh just don't have enough good players to compensate for such a loss.
Having said that, I think they will give Cavan their fill of it, and these game could easily go either way.

Worryingly there seems to be an expectation around the county that we will surely beat Fermanagh. I can't see how anyone can install us as favourites in this game. Very little between the sides and if our injury list is as bad as is rumored our summer could be ending next Sunday.

Re: Qualifiers Round 1 2012
I'd agree with you JS. Cavan have done nothing at senior level recently to suggest that they should be favourites over Fermanagh. Fair enough, there is an air of expectation regarding the U21s, but Fermanagh will be keen and organised, and this one could go either way. (Especially in Brewster Pk.)
