Club Football Semi-Finals.
Dr Crokes (Kerry) v Crossmaglen Rangers (Armagh), Portlaoise, 2.00pm
St Brigid’s (Roscommon) v Garycastle (Westmeath), Pearse Park, 2.00pm
Uniquely, last years finalists are in the mix again, on opposing sides of the draw. This is a great tribute to both clubs and both are deserving semi-finalists.
Crokes :Are previous winners and possess what is probably the finest forward of his generation. "One swallow doesn't make a summer" so they haven't gotten to the last 4 on No.13.....Will be competitive and combatitive throughout but.....
Crossmaglen: Doughty battlers, experienced, relentless and totally combatative. McConville has trangressed 3 different winning squads and I've been a great admirer of John McEntee's languid citeóg....
St.Brigid's: Possessors of the finest venue in Connacht (The Hyde excluded). The only remaining team that would meet Boxty's vision of the game (long raking footpassing)..Domican at 6, Mannion at 9, Kilbride at 14 and Dolan at loose should do it..
Garrycastle: This may appear incredulous, but back in the day, around '82 or thereabouts, Fenagh engaged these upstarts in a tournament in Ballymahon and routed them...They were a spin-off from the Athlone club..Dessie Dolan is a fine forward...
Verdict: St.Brigid's V Crossmaglen.....Brigid's to win the Andy Merrigan...
