The biggest game in Clare hurling in 2011 will take place this Friday evening in thurles...Promises to be a cracker, twould be huge for Clare to go to thurles and win and if they do they will take serious stopping

This is an excellent minor side and we will get more seniors off it than last years side that were very unlucky not to win an All Ireland

Unless they come up against Down and start crying for their mammies.

Or is that just the seniors?

crying for their mammies??? clare have hammered Down in there last two meetings and will do the same again next year, my scorn was reserved for the Down lads who threw in the towel early and got themselves sent off and let their county, team and supporters down by lowering the blade and acting like thugs and couldn't take their beating like men....

As i said back in April this is a serious Clare minor side, went to Thurles and were 9 points up with time up, a late Tipp free put a bit of gloss on it but Clare walked all over them second half and truth be told they didn't hurl to their full potential and can hurl better, especially the half back and full forward line who were starved of possesion

The full backline, midfield- in the second half- & Cathal O'Connell and Peter Duggan were excellent

Beating any Tipp side in Thurles by 6 points is always a good achievement.

The 2 Leinster semi finals are on today at 7 with Dublin Vs Westmeath and Wexford Vs Kilkenny.

Would love to see Westmeath qualify for the final they're an excellent side.

Kelly ups tempo to lift Clare
Munster MHC semi-final: Clare 3-13 Tipperary 1-13
Jackie Cahill

Saturday, June 25, 2011

TONY KELLY played a captain’s part at soggy Semple Stadium last night as holders Clare advanced to a Munster MHC final meeting with Limerick or Waterford on July 10.

Ballyea dynamo Kelly, who went off injured with two minutes remaining, was sensational in the second half as the Banner County scored a fully-deserved victory against Tipperary in front of 3,939 spectators in Thurles.

During a blistering 10-minute spell, Kelly scored four points and supplied another for Aaron Cunningham as the visitors turned up the heat.

Tipp were simply blown away by the pace and power of Clare’s second-half performance, having trailed 1-8 to 0-8 at the break, and the Premier County endured a 19-minute spell without a score from the 36th to 54th minute.

During that time, Clare hit 1-5 without reply to gain a firm stranglehold on proceedings, with the 38th-minute goal a real thing of beauty from Kelly’s midfield sidekick Colm Galvin.

The Clonlara man strode forward unmarked from the centre of the park and took a pass from Shane O’Donnell before finishing brilliantly at the Town End.

Tipp’s top scorer Liam McGrath brought his side to within six points, 0-13 to 2-13, with a brace of frees but any faint hope of a revival was quickly extinguished two minutes from time.

Tipp goalkeeper Shane Hassett fumbled the greasy sliotar from Gearóid O’Connell’s lengthy delivery and substitute Alan Mulready tapped the ball home.

Mulready’s goal opened up a 3-13 to 0-13 lead for Clare before Tipp centre-back Jason Forde netted the home side’s only goal in stoppage time.

Scorers for Tipperary: L McGrath 0-9 (7f), J Forde 1-0, P Ralph 0-2, D McCormack, S Cahill 0-1 each.

Scorers for Clare: C O’Connell 0-4 (2f, 1 65), T Kelly 0-4 (2f), C Galvin 1-1, A Mulready 1-0, P Duggan 0-3 (1 sl), E Enright 1-0, A Cunningham 0-1.

TIPPERARY: S Hassett; J Bourke, J Meagher, J Peters; T Hamill, J Forde, C Barrett; E Fennelly, B Maher; P Ralph, D McCormack, J McGrath; S Cahill, L McGrath, C Horan.

Subs: B Heffernan for Horan (44), S Kennedy for Fennelly (54).

CLARE: E Quilligan; J Browne, N O’Connor, S Morey; J Colleran, J Shanahan, G O’Connell; C Galvin, T Kelly; E Enright, C O’Connell, P Duggan; S O’Donnell, O Hickey, A Cunningham.

Subs: A Mulready for Enright (48), M Moroney for Kelly (59), D Moloney for O’Connell (60).

Referee: J O’Connell (Cork).

DESPITE having health-related priorities, following his diagnosis with leukaemia, Ger Loughnane has sent a message of congratulations to the Clare minor hurlers, who have qualified for the Munster final on July 10 in Cork. Clare beat Tipperary in last Friday week’s semi-final.
“His [texted] words were ‘I heard the great news of the performance against Tipp. We all have big battles ahead but isn’t that what’s life is all about” Clare minor selector Eamon Fennessy said.
“We were absolutely astounded that he sent us this message. It’s a measure of the man really,” he added.
Loughnane presented the 2010 Munster minor champions with their medals at their presentation night and had been in regular touch with the minor management throughout last year’s campaign.
“Last year, whether people knew it or not, Ger was never far away from us. His door was always open for advice and his thoughts on our games or his thoughts on our preparation going into the next game. He was always helpful to us but we never made it public knowledge. We just kept it very low key but we were very thankful to him. When it came to the presentation night, the players knew him and he had them eating out of his hand that night,” Fennessy recalled.
“We as a management definitely want to send our best wishes to him and from the whole panel as well. I think people had the perception that because he was on television, he was gone away from Clare but he wasn’t. He was still a Clare man and willing to offer advice if we wanted it and criticism as well,” he noted.
Loughnane, who was one of Clare’s greatest half-backs, managed the county to two All-Ireland and three Munster titles in the 1990s. He is receiving treatment for his condition at St James’ Hospital in Dublin.

A poor minor team by Kilkenny standards and a poor performance. Some dodgy refereeing decisions including only 1 minute of added time even though there were 4 or 5 subs in the second half. Having said that Dublin deserve their victory,

Clare corner backs, half backline, midfield and Cathal O'Connell are all hurling very well, just need the inside forwards to up it a bit more and we will win at a canter

Clare 1-20 Waterford 3-09 - full time

Clare seemed to lose their composure a bit in the last 10 minutes and hit some poor wides along with allowing waterford get a couple of goals.....No harm either, we would have been at a hiding to nothing winning by a huge margin.....

First time ever Clare have won back to back munster minor titles
