The two pretenders. I'm sure these counties can only dream of being from a county like Waterford or Kilkenny.

Should be very good, I hope I can see it.
Think it'll be closer than you said mossbags and Tipp will really have to perform. The defence is good but going forward not so strong. Extra time I reckon.

Re: Galway v Tipp
There is no fixture in any sport anywhere in the World I look forward to more than Galway v Tipp in the All Ireland!
As a young kid visiting Galway during the summer holidays in the 80's I remember two things very distinctly, one, cutting turf is a b*astard of a job and two, you just don't like Tipp!
Can't wait for this game, only disappointed it's not on Saturday as the quarters usually are, it's the one time of the year I can get a big group of my mates over here to come and watch some GAA, they like the sleep in on Sunday!
It's going to be close but it's going to be great to watch.

Re: Galway v Tipp
Should be very interesting alright.
Which of these teams wants it more ... to ultimately get soundly beaten by the Cats. The men in black and amber are tending to the farming jobs at the moment but may cast an eye at the charades that will ultimately provide them with their historic victim. I thought Cork might have something up their sleeves but they were outsmarted by Davy's underage tactics - and in doing so showed the paucity of their challenge. Galway have already come up short to a KK team not even in 2nd gear. Tipp gave a good show last year but will be blown away should they arrive in September. Waterford are short a few players - about 8 to be honest. If I was a bookie I would have this one closed long ago. Kilkenny won this All Ireland last September. They (as another poster once famously said) will be gods in about 7 weeks time. Guys of the calibre of Walsh, Shefflin, Brennan, Hickey, Tyrrell, Delaney, Power, Comerfrd, Larkin etc, are far to good and focused for it not to happen.

Re: Galway v Tipp
McIntyre demands ‘intensity’
July 20, 2010 - 7:23am
Hurling manager says Croke Park date with Tipperary
offers chance of 'redemption'
Stephen Glennon
Galway senior hurling manager John McIntyre believes his charges will
need to “bring serious intensity” if they are to overcome Tipperary in a
mouth-watering All-Ireland quarter-final clash at Croke Park this
Sunday (4pm).
Having failed miserably to stoke the passions when surrendering meekly
to Kilkenny in the Leinster final earlier in the month, the Tribesmen
have now an opportunity to atone for their poor display when they go
head to head with the 2009 All-Ireland finalists. It’s a huge challenge.
“Tipperary comfortably disposed of Offaly [in the qualifiers] in
Portlaoise last weekend (0-21 to 1-12), where it took us two games to
get over Offaly, and we were at the pin of our collar to do so, so we
have it all to do,” says McIntyre.
“Tipperary are generally regarded as the second best team in the
country, so if we don’t bring serious intensity to Croke Park on Sunday
it is going to be difficult to get a result.”
It will be intriguing to observe the manner in which Galway respond to
their defeat to the All-Ireland champions. Since then, they have taken a
week-long break, returning to their respective clubs for championship
action, before regrouping for a training camp away at Johnstown House,
Enfield last week.
“The training camp went well, but it is inside those four white lines
that it has to count,” states the Galway boss. “Tipperary is our next
big game and, for us, it presents us with an opportunity for redemption
after the defeat to Kilkenny. It is an opportunity that we are
determined to take.”
Galway Bs walloped Galway As in Enfield scoring 8 goals and winning by a whopping 35 points. Guess who was the B specials star player? That's right, Joe Canning and, as is well known, Joe Canning hates Tipp

Re: Galway v Tipp
Its going to be very hard for Canning to put in big performances for the next few years because for the main reason he is going to be marked tightly, but I think a big problem for him is he inability to win clean ball. Canning wins a lot of loose ball, as in the Offaly matches his goals were form breaking balls. Thats well and good against the teams looking to build but as we seen in the Kilkenny match he was just marked out of it. Every time the ball went near him the corner backs just came in and swept the ball away. He did start centre forward against Kilkenny which I thought was a good idea if he could win puckouts. He is being bottled up in the full forward line. If you look at Henry Shefflin he could be playing anywhere in forwards and be effective but is more effective in the corner or on the wing because he has more space and is less likely to be bottled up.
So I think Canning needs to win ball on the half forward line and be brought back on the frees to get him going, a bit of confidence.

Best of luck to Galway in this one i made a few bob in running the last time you played Tipp..Got 11/2 with about 15 mins left i think..
Win this one mossy you have 1 foot in croker for september after that who knows...The Cats wouldn't like to see the Tribes there..The only team that has beating them in recent years
Yon never know Mossy this song deserves a bigger stage- Quinns or the Shakesphere

Mayes or Gills would be my usual haunts Mullins man but I'd also pop into the Parrot as it's one of the few proper run family pubs left in the area.
Re HG, Joe has been marked tightly since he was 16, he gives as good as he gets.
The reason he was exposed in the Leinster Final was because we had to move Damien further out as no's 8-12 were being cleaned out. Hayes did manage to make a difference but the problem then occured that we were robbing Peter to pay Paul, ie when ball was delivered into Joe, even he will struggle when doubled up by the likes of Noel Hickey and Jackie Tyrell. This scenario will be avoided by the re-introduction of David Burke @ mf who missed the Kilkenny game because of an unjust suspension

Re: Galway v Tipp
Yes Burke was a loss and it was very evident that day that your midfield was in bother. A two man full forward line would help Joe's cause but the likes of Kilkenny would just leave the defender there.
Its a tough one!

Re: Galway v Tipp
Moss, I heard a tiny bit about the training game but do you know who was marking Canning? A slight worry if you look at it from that angle because there are plenty of decent hurlers for our backs to face yet. Also, is David Burke back from the ban now? I'm thinking he is?
The more I think about this game the more I'm looking forward to it (and I was excited from the off)! I'd say Tipp are going in as slight favourites but it's going to be a well fought game alright, can't wait for it.
Sami, are you getting over to York for it? I'll be heading over to Brum for this one, should be a good atmosphere as there's plenty of old boys from the West in the pubs there.

Joe was in FF and Kav was marking him Turlogh. Not that much of a worry, Joe will do that to anyone when he's in the mood, plus Tipp don't have a full forward

Re: Galway v Tipp
Galway can't afford to go long spells the next day without scoring went 20+ mins against KK without scoring and against Tipp in the league scored 1 point in the whole second half. Tannian should be moved out to right half forward and Donnelan or Lee should start centre half forward.

Rumours abound that it may well be Chunky in the centre Collins has been mentioned there too, heard he got 1-2 for Mellows from that position at the Wkend.
I agree about Tannion, put him on the wing, needs to be more involved. Hayes back into the corner maybe at the expense of young Harte who drifts in and out of games. Smith is a confirmed starter @ no 12

I'd say thats probably Galways best team. Good to see Ryan in the half forward line good in the air and capable of scoring from the half forward line. I'd say Donnelan is capable of keeping O'Mahony quiet and should have a good game. Tipp's full forward line probably their biggest strength. Lets hope Galway play to their potential.

Never seen Eanna Ryan in action so it'll be nice to see what he's like. Surprised there's no John Lee but Moss you did mention in another thread that he was finding it tough to get back in the team after the league.
Moss, Clash, any idea when they're announcing the minor line up?

Shane Kelly (T Larkins), Cormac Diviney (Ardrahan),
Darragh Burke (St Thomas), Conor McDonagh (Killimordaly), Paul Hoban
(Loughrea), Daithi Burke (Turloughmore) Cpt, Mark Horan (Craughwell),
Padraig Brehony (Tynagh), Conor Cooney (St Thomas), Albert Mullins
(Gort), Jonathon Glynn (Ardrahan), Jason Flynn (T Larkins), Niall Keary
(Loughrea), Trevor Moran (Meelick), Shane Moloney (Tynagh)
Hard to say how this will go. They've lost the likes of Cummins, Badger,Glennon, Joe Cooney jr from last year but as ever your townie Daithi Burke will be the man tomorrow 6inarow. Shane Maloney is still there from last year too and he is a serious talent. Galway are unlikely to be the force they've been of the last 2 years when they had a very special crop(even for Galway minors) and Waterford are a decent outfit. Mattie will get the best out of them but as ever we won't know how good they are until on the day.
As regards the senior, Eanna Ryan,(nephew to the great man in case yer wondering) is a tough and uncompromising hurler, able to win his own ball. If he tags on a few scores tomorrow we'll be in business.
In other news Galway are fooked

Can't wait for this, I won't be seeing it live as I have other commintments...but it's been Sky Plus-ed by the lucky satellite owners next door and I'll watch it 'almost live' later on.
Feck it, I might even hang a large Tipp flag out the front of the house.
As long as I can avoid the score for a few hours all is good.

This is a most unusual match for me .... unfortunately we can't have two losers. Before Moss cut lose here I'd have been willing the Tribes ... not any more. Antrim are the only team I am really hoping will win today.
