Grand National 2010
The weights announced earlier on today. Anybody feel any horse has been underestimated by the handicapper. I think I'll back Ballyholland winner of the plate at 33/1.

Re: Grand National 2010
After seeing the weights i have to say i really fancy State of Play. I always look for a horse that has got round the trip before (4th last year). Perfect age 9 or 10 year olds have best records. It will also be carrying four or five pounds less than last year.
There you have it

Wonder why it's not running Samin, i know it was in the list of entrants and it ran brilliantly last year. Strange.

Entered alright, 75th on the list.
The owner and trainer have more money than sense. Certainly won't win.

Re: Grand National 2010
Snowy morning ran a decent race last year, will be carrying a much smaller weight about 10lb less i think. A horse that has got round before and finished in a decent position, carrying a smaller weight this year is the way to go. Usually end up backing about 3 anyway and will change my mind about 5 times in the run up to it.

Just had a nosey there myself, State of Play looks good so far, good weight and age, i'm taken by Character Building so it's looking like i'll be keeping an eye on those two!

Re: Grand National 2010
Snowy Morning and State of Play have taken failry big drops in the ratings for very few poor runs. Very well treated on their best form.
I reckon Mon Mome will end up top weight so expect everything to rise by 3lbs.

Who's your early favourite Loyal? Bit early i know, a bit of close monitoring will be needed for me to get a clearer picture.

Re: Grand National 2010
I might also back WHINSTONE BOY. Good form, 9 yr old, 10-4 and Jimmy Mangan as the trainer who has experience in the race.

There is a forfeit stage tomorrow so I'd wait until then before backing.
The entries minus the forfeits might not be released until Wednesday afternoon.

Unfortunetely Clash, they won't. Wouldn't fancy anything below 10-8 (at the minute) to get in the race.

Re: Grand National 2010
If they don't make it I'll be picking a horse between 11-00st and 10-04st in weight, aged 9 or 10 and with previous experience in the race.

Joke of a race from a betting perspective but if you must then Siegemaster E/W should pay.

Re: Grand National 2010
I had Across The Bay in my head last Friday when he was 40/1. Best price 14/1 now. I might give him a miss now that I missed the price. It will be a strong horse's race, gale force winds blowing right across the straight and the conditions are very testing! Staying and jumping will be the difference, there'll be very few finishers. I'll take Across The Bay but nearing the very foot of the weights, there's a horse called Leanne who could run a big one too.

Re: Grand National 2010
Yeah I like that horse Clash. He's a strong traveller, I think if he jumps around, he'll come there hard on the bridle. If you were a big in running punter, you'd be backing now with a view to laying off at the business end of the race. Not to say he can't win either but it'll be very tough for horses with big weights in the conditions.
