Team of Great Footballers
Lets try and put together a team full of players who never won or appeared in an All Ireland Senior Football Final.
I propose Declan Browne (Tipp) at number 15.

Ya better make it a condition that they have retired now otherwise it'd be full of Dubs!

Bump!!
Are club finals included (presumably not)
In any event Packy McGarty (Leitrim) at 11.
Tom Prendergast (Laois) at 12.*
Gerry O'Malley (Roscommon) at 6.
* played in A/I club final with Portlaoise.

In all honesty I think Mattie Ford is overated, hes good in Wexford because the skill level of the forwards is lower to that if other counties, he doesn't hold a candle to the Gooch, Sean Cavanagh Stevie Mc Donell etc.
Certainly wouldn't have him on a great footballers team...no offence!!

This is a list of great players who havent won or appeared in an all-ireland though.

I think it's more in the spirit of the thread to confine choices to those "who have never appeared in an A/I Final" to the exclusion of those who may yet do so.

Glad to see you had the dignity/humility not to mention a Derry forward either.
But a player often maligned is our full back Philip Wallace, and he could play 2,3 even in "weak" forward unit either seen as he got 2 points 9from play against Tyrone last year.
also Anthony Masterson voted onto the players team last year ans was in the running fo an all star in the goal

Re: Team of Great Footballers
Unfortunetely, this isn't a category I can have much input into - since most Meath footballers have appeared in an All-Ireland final.
But Tommy "The Boiler" McGuiness is one of the greatest Meath footballers never to see Sam. He represented Meath in 30s and the highlight of his career probably came in 1939 when we won Leinster and were cruelly robbed of a First All-Ireland against Kerry by the ref. Kerry won by two points if memory serves me right but I'll never forget the furore over the "Did the Ball cross the line/Did it not cross the line" after Kerry's second 'goal'. But thats besides the point. The Boiler was one of the great Meath footballers and probably represented us at every poosition from 1-15.

Still played in the final of 1939.
Ineligible for inclusion so. Just another Meath eulogy.

Re: Team of Great Footballers
Thinking about this
Jim Goodskin (volunteers) Wexford town late 30 and 40's
Tom Somers (Gusserane)closest he got was 1945 all-ireland semi final Wexford beaten by Cavan. M. o Heir used to comment on his solo as been on of the greatest he ever saw
Paddy Kehoe(Gusserane) also from that '45 team.
Later years
Mick Carty (Castletown)captained UCD to the All-Ireland Club title in '75--does this rule him out.
Many others to from the 80's & 90's but sure we were only a hurling county then.

Ah sure Nudie can play wherever he wants! Better forward though.
Another one I'd suggest is Ciaran Murray at centre-back, very underrated player of the 80's team, excellent player and great leader. Unfortunately injury cut his county career far too short though.
I see no keepers have been mentioned yet, Paddy Linden would be a good call, but 3 Monaghan men may be a bit much!
