Re: Galway vs Clare
Farragher at his best, Hayes at his best, Healy,Donnellan and JC, Galway would be unstoppable!! KK wouldn't stand a chance!

Re: Galway vs Clare
I'd expect Chunky Hayes to start in the half forward line maybe instead of Callanan or Smyth. If Hayes is injured Farragher to play there. Gantly has also been going well in training and matches and may start.

Re: Galway vs Clare
This will be Galways team for Saturday night
Skehill
Joyce
Kavanagh
Ollie
Moore
Lee
Mahon
Hynes
Lynch
Farragher
Chunky
Donnellan
Hayes*
Joe
Healy
*Still unclear at this stage wether Hayes will be fully fit. Fergal Healy or Niall Hayes may start instead or Farragher might be moved into the corner with Alan Kerins coming in then.
John Lee's form is a major worry, he was cleaned out again in a club game there last week against Kinvara. His only half decent performance this year happened to be against the cats in Tullamore but in his favour on Saturday is that his likely direct opponent will be Davy Barrett, your typical 'big bogger in the centre' whose only contribution is to win 1st ball and be feeding the likes of Ryan and Gilligan. Even a underwhelming Lee can counter these types with his eyes closed.
Interestinly Clare are so worried about Galways ability to create space and goalscoring threat that they've narrowd the pitch again and its now as tight as a frigid nun!

Re: Galway vs Clare
"Nothing special" is one desciption I've never heard of Joe Canning and is also one of the most ludicrous. I actually agree that he may have got more credit than he deserved for the Kilkenny game but the man is an unbelievable talent and will prob be one of the best hurlers of his generation.
As for the Galway v. Clare, I fear a real hammering in this one. Clare bet Glaway unexpectedly the last time these teams met, I'd say Galway will be out to avenge that. Having said that, Galway are pretty unpredictable so you never know but on balance they have far more skill and quality than Clare do. I'd worry about the direction Clare are heading in, I fear they could be going down the same road as Wexford, no exceptional talent coming through and all the old warriors retiring or retired already...

Re: Galway vs Clare
I'd prefer to see Cullinane in the half back line as he didn't do too bad against Kilkenny (if I'm not mistaken but I think Moore was marking Larkin). I'd move Moore into corner back and not start Joyce. I also play Smyth whoes pace could trouble a slow Clare team.

Re: Galway vs Clare
Thought the KK game seemed to pass Smith by a bit but then again I remember seeing him in acres of space and not being fed any ball so maybe wasn't all his own fault.
You could be right about Moore going back into the corner although in fairness other than the last 2 minutes of the first half I thought Joyce had one of his better days in a Galway jersey. Cullinane is getting better with every game alright but would find a spot for Mahon as he's flying it in club and training by all accounts. Farragher must be found a starting berth as well, personally I could take or leave chunky but his physicality might come in handy against a windy shower like Clare.

Re: Galway vs Clare
galway will win this one pulling up, not because they are so great but because this is a poor clare side that has not got the skill to match it with the big boys anymore. They came back strong against a phycologically weak tipp team who should never have allowed them back into the game top teams just wont let you back in. i see Galway winning by at least 12 points with cannning a huge scorer once more.

Re: Galway vs Clare
Its not as if Clare can't hurl either. Rich, if Galway win this pulling up then I'm a China Man, Ennis is a hard place to get a win and now they've shortened the pitch 5 yards to add to Galway's woes. It will be interesting to see if Markham drops back to protect the FB line. I'd let McInerney go toe to toe with Canning early on and see what he can do. Anyways, Clare have their own Joe in Colin Ryan, like if Gilly, Carmody and Griffin hit the right notes, they'll destroy a lot of teams too. I expect McMahon to switch with Barrett as when they did in Tipperary game, it changed the whole game.

Re: Galway vs Clare
Chunky Hayes has really improved since last year against Cork. If Hayes was injured I think only then would I start Farragher. Gantley also seems to be flying it as well, although I'd doubt if they would take the risk of playing him in Galways most important game of the year.

No Gantley definitly wont be starting but its nice to know that Teirney and Fegal Healy arn't all we have to call on should we need something more in MF.
Hope you right about Chunky Clash. He'll probably start on Sat and its a great opportunity for him to prove himself once and for all at this level. Be a brave Clare fooker to hack into JC with Chunky Hayes on the pitch!

Could that mean that Galway would be out of the Leinster C'ship if they lost both games??? Irony!

More than likely it will be Antrim who will be relegated.

If Clare win on Sunday will that leave Antrim and Galway in a straight shootout for relegation from the Leinster then?

Re: Galway vs Clare
Galway chairman loses appeal
10 July 2009
Galway hurling board chairman Miko Ryan has lost his appeal against an eight-week suspension.
The
county's longest-serving GAA officer was hit with the ban following an
altercation with Galway selector John Moylan during the county's
Leinster SHC semi-final defeat to Kilkenny last month.
Galway's
Hearings Committee upheld the suspension after it met on Monday night,
but lifted the ban on Ryan being on the sideline for inter-county games
when the eight-week term ends. He may make a further appeal to the
Connacht Council, but this will not be heard before tomorrow's
All-Ireland qualifier against Clare.
As a result, Ryan will not be allowed to travel with the team to Ennis or to sit on the sideline with the team management.
The controversy has threatened to overshadow Galway's build-up to a game they need to win to stay in the championship.

Good riddance
In other news rumours are circulating that the 15 named for Clare will not be their starting 15 in Ennis there tommorow night. Mike Mac was one of the leading lights in the GerLock codology approach to naming teams but surely this is taking the piss if its true!

After his own interests Miko Ryan always had Galway hurlings interests fairly close to his list of priorities!
