Re: back to playing Gaelic football
Made a comeback myself this year after 2 1/2 years out of action. Training is bloody tough, but I've got my place in the team again, and am certainly enjoying it a lot more than when I quit previously.
The only downside is having to drive from Dublin to Sligo every weekend!

Ah! So you are in goal....not much training needed for that
To be honest, I am hoping that they will put me in goal.
Re: back to playing Gaelic football
I twisted my knee about ten years ago in a soccer semi (after scoring the pen in a 1-0 win) and missed the Final!
I was lucky (had no insurance) to have an op by Ray Moran soon after to remove a fragment of floating bone in my knee - the dog was following me everywhere. I could've done physio and built it up again - but I didn't cos I am a lazy ba***rd!
The result is that my knees are extremely dodgy (and knobbly maybe). If I stand at a game know it is sore and if I kick a ball about it flares up at the slightest thing. So my playing days are long over but I have found salvation in GAA Tipster!!
Anyone out there who knows how I could build up the knee (quads I think?) while sitting on my a**e, drinking beer and eating Walkers Chilli Sensations without any exertions I'd be mighty gald to hear from ya!

After all this time a proven penalty taker has been found (albeit too late) in Dublin.
And they persisted with Redmond with Jayo on hand....bad form.....

Re: back to playing Gaelic football
Injured the left knee bad enough a few years ago myself JC. Just collapsed from under me at a game. Freak accident really, no bother before - the leg was planted and when I turned that was me gone! Didn't get it seen to properly and it happened again. Had to get injections in, both in under the kneecap and into the joint. But that was no good on it's own, needed to build up the knee proper, the quads(and for myself in particular that muscle that comes down the inside of the leg onto the knee). If you wanted to sort it out you'd need a better training regime than the one outlined there!

Re: back to playing Gaelic football
Thank you lads. After reading this thread this evening, I said **** it, today is the day I make a name for meself. The lads in the club have been at me to go back for ages too so I went to training this evening. Problem is the intermediates have a game next weekend and it was all sprints, to say my legs are about to fall off would be an understatement. We did a small bit of ballwork and I'm glad to say I never lost it, Stephen Bray, left foot, right foot over the bar, Ollie Murphy deadly in front of goal. Junior C Champions, here we come!

Re: back to playing Gaelic football
Think I should pack in the Gaelic football. I scored a goal but it was an own goal. For me it was a bad performace, kept the forward quiet but the opposition was just running through our defence as if it didnt exist...which it didnt!
