Cork v Tipperary
How do people think this will go ?
I know Cork have had their problems (again !) this year and that Tipp really put it up to Kilkenny in the league final a few weeks ago so Tipp will be starting as deserved favourites.
But Cork have been going well since Denis Walsh took over (hammered Dublin, Limerick and Wexford - match played at Semple Stadium - in challenge matches over the last 2 weeks) so this could be a very close game.
Aisake is also back from Australia now and is flying at full forward !

I can't see past Tipp to be honest. I think they are the only team around who could trouble Kilkenny on their day. Challenge matches are just that - Tipp have had a good League and some good hard matches and have a match hardened and settled panel.

Re: Cork v Tipperary
True they don't mean a lot but Walsh hasn't really had a lot of time with the team so every match is important to us so he can get them playing the way he wants.
The match against Wexford in Semple Stadium was a shrewd enough move too as it was behind closed doors (not that Tipp won't have been monitoring) and gave some of the younger panelists experience of the place.
The fact that Tipp are favourites and Cork underdogs won't be too displeasing down Leeside either !

Re: Cork v Tipperary
Can't see how Cork will win with that team. Hoping Noel McGrath has a huge game, forget Canning and anyone else, this lad is the star of Championship 2009! Tom and Jerry will have to play brilliant for Cork to have a chance but with the other McGrath and Woodlock there, I just don't see how its going to be more than 50/50! Then you look at Cork's forwards and Tipp's forwards and there's only one team thats going to score more. Rebels have one scoring threat - Ben O'Conner, Tipp have Webster, Kelly, Callinan, McGrath and Lar! Then in the backs, well I hear there's a lot of talk Leeside about this new look Rebel full-back line but as good and all as its supposed to be, they're inexperienced bar maybe O'Neill and I can see Tipp taking them to the cleaners. O'Mahony is back as well. All this points to only one result. Tipp by 7 or 8 but hoping Cork do well and don't give ammo to the clueless idiots who haven't a clue about the strike.

Would be suprised if Gardiner does't start at FB for the langers, Cadogans lack of experience likely to be cruely exposed by the likes of Corbett and a returning Eoin Kelly. Conor o Mahoneys returning today as well for Tipp and as one of the best defenders in the land he'll bring added steel and more to their defense.
Like Jayo and Loyal, cant see Cork in with much of a shout here.
That said they will surely raise their game and will have at least one giant performance in them this Summer and that combined with the possibility that the bruising league final against Kilkenny took a lot out of Tipp could lead to a very interesing and exciting encounter indeed.

And why was that?
I missed this game but heard Cork were valiant in defeat. Fair play to them, still the third best team around after the Premier and the Cats.

I was just disgusted at the treatment of Gerard Mc Carthy.
Cork did try to the end however, Aisake seemed out of his depth for long peroids of the game. Eoin kelly is some player hi.

Yeah he is, came to us a while back to present medals, believes in his own greatness let me tell you. Aisake starting was a gamble, Neil Ronan, Cathal Naughtan and Kevin Hartnett all the bench and him starting seemed odd to me. Will need to see the highlights to say more.

I missed the first 20 minutes of the 2nd half, but Tipp must have just went to sleep they were destroying Cork in the last 20 minutes of the 1st half, everything they directed at the goals went over., great point from a sideline cut from Kelly I think it was. Though they would have taken Aisake off but he stayed to the end. Sean Og had a good game.

Re: Cork v Tipperary
Cork have no forwards, or at least their better ones weren't on the field. Pa Cronin hardly set the world alight last year but he did very well when he came on, Naughtan should have been starting too - it baffles me how he wasn't and I don't know what the story with Neil Ronan is? They are too reliant on Ben O'Conner, McCarthys have had their day and judging by that today, Aisake won't ever have a day. Midfield, they were outplayed, where is Kevin Hartnett too?
I don't know whether you'd be happy or disappointed if you're from Tipp. They disappeared for a long period of that game. But they played great stuff early on, Noel McGrath is a class act. Likewise Callinan in centre forward. Add in Corbett and Kelly and Tipp are lethal up front. Defensively, they are sound too. Half-back line is strong. You can never totally write off the Banner but it'd be a massive upset if Tipp didn't beat them. But Clare will be encouraged by Tipp's poor showing in the second half.

Re: Cork v Tipperary
Cork threw the game away. Despite all the miles on the clock and trials and tribulations, they still appear to be a better side than Tipperary, although Tipperary may have panicked in the 2nd half.
They got a gift of a goal at the start of the half due to Cork's insistance on "tip tapping" the ball, but then fell apart.
Between the 38th and 42nd minute Cork missed a good goal chance by Horgan, who then fired a wide from a good point opportunity. Next they had the "goal" disallowed, the penalty was saved and to compound matters O'Connor missed the resultant 65. That's 8 points gone a begging.
Tipp finally scored again some 15 minutes later when Cork conceded a cheap free by handling on the ground.I think if Cork had talken the lead at any stage as they should Tipperary would have been gone.
Aisake looks to be some player, he just needs to be hurling.
As for Tipp, well there main tactic in the first successful half was playing the ball to Lar Corbett. Now Lar is ok, but no serious contender is going to live oin fear of him. He wouldn't catch one ball all day against Walsh or JJ of Kilkenny.
So I feel that Tipp need to find something else to challenge the Cats, but then so do all the others.

Re: Cork v Tipperary
Just read most of the other comments. Aisake WON every ball played anywhere near him. A bit of inexperience in that he then laid it off too soon or poorly, but he did win a lot of ball.
Once he starts hurling on a regular basis......

Re: Cork v Tipperary
I think the better team just about won, although they did need Benny Dunne to come off the bench to dig them out of a hole as well as Pat Kerwick. I think Corks lack of match practice was probably the difference between the two teams.
As they say if you have Cork bet and the hay saved its a good day in Galway. Or in this case Tipperary.

Re: Cork v Tipperary
Patriques spot on with his assessement, Cork had Tipp there for the
taking but somehow managed to screw it up. The presence of Joe Deane might have made the difference here. Brian Cody will be smiling
as there was no real evidence of any discernible improvement going on yesterdays performance from this years Tipp and last years. Webster is not in the top tier of full forwards and Codogans performance on him yesterday was remarkable and full of promise for the full back position in Cork. Maher has done well this year for Tipp but why was Sheedy ringing in the changes a la Callinan and McGrath when they's being doing so well?? Thought the Tipp sideline looked a bit panicky there yesterday.
Pats right about Aisake as well. I doubted the wisdom of playing him myself but all he needs is to be hurling. You could see him coming more and more into it as the game wore on. Hes still only 23 and is a big lad who will become a serious operator for Cork in the years to come.
Wouldn't be at all sure about Tipp winning Munster after yesterday. Winners of Waterford/Limerick in with a serious shout of provincial honours down there this year imo.

Re: Cork v Tipperary
I have had a sneaky regard for Limerick since Justin went there, and Waterford are quite capable of still winning Munster.
Tipp may have a lot of "coming" players, but the fact that they need to throw them in now does not bode that well for the future.
Kilkenny probably have a number of U21s capable of playing senior, but their strength means they do not need them at the moment.

Inkling towards Limerick myself although I know Davys been drilling the blaa's out of the Waterford lads down there and that side are far from a beaten docket. Ken McGrath in the half forwards might prove a stroke of genius!
