Shane Lowry
Great to see young Shane Lowry, the Irish amateur, still in the lead going into the Final round of the Irish Open. It would be amazing if he could win it! Shot a 71 today when the big names were shooting 76s and 77s!
I'm sure Dad Brendan is mighty proud and GAA people in Offaly and all over the island will be willing him to victory tomorrow!

Yeah, an incredible story. Fair play to him and I really hope he can hold on to the end. I have to admit that I've been expecting him to fade away all the time but he's playing brilliantly.

Re: Shane Lowry
Heart stopping stuff but fair play to him - for a 22 year old to show such bottle, composure and will to win was awesome - oh - an he's only an amateur!
Surprised a few more of ye haven't commented on this!

I play music on Sunday night. The guitar player is actually a golf pro, so all of us are astounded.
Until Harrington won this recently an Irishman hadn't won for decades so this is some achievement.
Congratulations to Shane.
But Nordie golfers are still best.

A great achievement for the young lad though he doesn't get a penny in prize money all the same he'll probably make as much in interviews sponsorship and of course he has the option of going pro, and it hasnt taken young Rory Mc Ilroy amassing a small fortune in a short space of time.

Re: Shane Lowry
It said on Sky Sports News his father was part of an upset in Gaelic football. Was he on the Offaly team in 82?
We had to wait over 20 years for another Irish winner of the Irish Open and now we have 2 in 3 years. Rock got the winners cheque of £500k since Lowry is an amateur.

Yep Clash his Dad Brendan and uncles Seán and Mick were part of that famous Offaly team that denied Kerry the 5-in-a-row in 1982 !!

Re: Shane Lowry
He's a great player all right. He had a few great battles with McIlroy in the West of Ireland a few years ago, and there never appeared to be much between them.
It'll be interesting if he decides to cash in amd turn pro immediately. He might be better served by waiting for the Walker Cup, he surely guaranteed his place yesterday, and the exposure to the US media could be a great boost in terms of sponsorship, invites to PGA events etc.
