rich - i have to take my hat off to you - any man woman or child who takes on a marathon has my utmost respect. I recently done a 4 mile run with some folks from work for charity and I thought that was tough going.
Best of luck with the rest of the training - you must be mentally very strong. I'll donate a few shillings when i get the chance.
Good luck

Re: Rich Dublins Ultimate Goal
Well done Richy!! Ya have a good heart so ya do-but your from practically from mayo so what would ya expect!!!! Aso, you mentioned that youre with croi. I wanted to volunteer with them over the Summer but what does it involve? Can I do marathons like you do? Also, is there stuff like church gate collections etc.? I'm stuck between voluteering with croí, irish red cross or the galway simon community!!! I cant decide which one, i cant really say that one is better than the other, because they all involve people who are in need or need help.......

hey essie, not sure what involves with that to be honest i picked the charity based on the work they do for the west of ireland without them we would have no heart clinic in galway hospital or alot of the other serices that are in there for the heart, great charity and are really under funded so i though i would try and help them.
as for doing a marathon anyone can do them just get out there and start, the first stem is the hardest if you are interested in it i can e-mail you some start up plans, one of the most important things is the runners, but a good pair of asics first.

Re: Rich Dublins Ultimate Goal
Fair play Rich, hope you get on well. Running a marathon is one of those things I'd love to do sometime, it'd be a great achievement, but whether or not I end up doing one is another thing! Talking about it is easy(usually done in the pub after a few!), and alot of people I know would be the same but we never bother our arses! So fair play on doing it Rich, and really respect you for raising funds for charity on top of that..

thanks so much Richy!!!! But remember dont put yourself under any pressure-I dont want ya to go to any bother for me!!!
As for my fitness-I'm simply the best!!! Ah no, I used to go for runs everyday on the running track near my house and the rugby field, but I've been very busy so usually i just get a bit of exercise done in the week!! But sure, i'd still love to give the marathon thing a lash, to help people if nothing else!!! Thanks Richy!!!

Re: Rich Dublins Ultimate Goal
I'll gladly sponsor you just as soon as my college and ex employer decide to pull their thumb out
Re: Rich Dublins Ultimate Goal
Rich - I will gladly throw a few bob in your direction for both the great effort and the cause. I have a few Marathons under me belt meself. so to speak - and then they changed the name to Snickers...
Also - I am too lazy to write my own book (yet) and this sounds like a good way to get into print - hopefully!! Would a small 10,000 word effort about Rich's training and it's effect on global warming be acceptable?

Just read this two minutes ago:
ONE-TIME ante-post favourite Quality Road has been ruled out of the Kentucky Derby after the quarter-crack in his off-fore hoof failed to respond adequately to treatment.
The Florida Derby winner was unable to perform a crucial workout on Monday morning at Belmont Park, which meant connections decided to by-pass Saturday's race.
The quarter-crack, which emerged last week, was the second setback of its type to have afflicted Quality Road in his Derby preparations after a similar injury in his off-hind hoof earlier this month.
"We couldn't train him, so we decided we couldn't run him," said trainer Jimmy Jerkens. "He just isn't sound enough.
"It's devastating," he added. "But you're just kidding yourself if you think you can go out there and run in the biggest race in the world and haven't trained. It's a shame because he's so talented."
Jerkens had jogged Quality Road on Saturday and then galloped him on Sunday after the second crack had been re-laced with wire and patched by hoof specialist Ian McKinlay.
The son of Elusive Quality had shown a slight bit of blood after galloping, but was scheduled to work on Monday over the training track at Belmont.
"There was some tenderness in the foot this morning and he's not 100 per cent," said Chris Baker, farm manager for owner Edward Evans's Spring Hill Farm.
"Jimmy wasn't comfortable breezing him and without a work, he can't go. He's not going to make the race."
Quality Road has won three of his four career starts, most recently landing the Fountain of Youth Stakes and the Grade 1 Florida Derby at Gulfstream Park.
"The good news is we have a very talented three-year-old," added Baker. "We'll get him right and go from there."
I am devasted.
