Jayo's Ultimate Sacrifice!
Well well well – Christmas seems like it was yesterday but already in 2009 Lent is upon us! Ah, Ash Wednesday! Black tea, dry bread and no meat!
So does anybody give anything up anymore? Sugar, sweets, the drink, chocolate, sex or… the ultimate – breathing! No – the real ultimate – Smoking!!!
As a 30 year smoker and with lungs that resemble a match ball from 1928 and a chest that has more infections than an Irish hospital I am going to try the unthinkable! Yes – to save myself the huge expense of a Thora Hird chair lift in the next year or so and to stave off an early and untimely demise when I clearly have so much left to give I am going to give it a go! I am sweating profusely as I type this – seriously! I have one smoke left in my 20 packet and dammit I will buy more this evening – but I will not smoke like a chimney this evening. I will just have what I need until I retire to Blanket Street in the knowledge that I will awake as a non-smoker! Godammit – more sweat – and an incredible urge to rush outside and have a cigarette!!!
... Ok back now ...
I am not going to share this with workmates or friends. I don’t want to put pressure on myself! And if I smoke tomorrow, none of you will know - (evil cackle escapes) . But no - I am willing to give it my best shot! In 30 years of nicotine filled pleasure and carcinogenic clouds I have stopped once – for eight months around 1990. And it wasn’t when I was pregnant before ye ask.
So I’m gonna go at it. If my posts tomorrow are cutting and bitter you will know why! I am gonna use this thread to log progress. It might help! I will be honest and if I smoke I will breakdown on line and beg forgiveness! So that’s it folks – Jayo’s going for some cleaner living! And the first steps to posing some selection headaches for Pat Gilroy!
Yikes!

JC from the bottom of my heart I wish you all the best with this. I look back on the day I stopped smoking with great pride. It was definitely one of the greatest and smartest things I ever did.
Just have a rant on here whenever you feel a craving.
Are you going cold turkey or are you using any quitting aids?
Good luck!

Best of luck keeping off them.
The gilr that sits beside me at work also quit and she is grumpy and short tempered. So she is the same as usual.
