Congratulations to Stanislas Wawrinka on winning his first major after beating the great Rafael Nadal in the Australian Open! Great performance from him throughout the tournament!

Re: Tennis Thread
Wawrinka is a great player to watch - stylish and has all the shots, especially that backhand.
He has been improving for quite some time and deserves his win today, though Nadal's injury obviously had a big impact.
Positioned at the very start of the season, the Australian Open is always the one most likely to throw up a surprise winner, but Wawrinka can go on from here and challenge Djokovic, Murray and (if fit) Nadal for the other major titles throughout the year.

Re: Tennis Thread
BBC have described Wawrinka's win as being only the 2nd grandslam won by someone other than the Big 4 since January 2005 (alongside Del Potro's 2009 US Open).
Id've put it slightly differently, referring to it as only the 3rd grandslam won by someone other than the Big 3 since January 2005.
