New Minor Hurling Format Empty New Minor Hurling Format

Surely the time has come to create a new minor hurling format, with the new senior format clearly improving the likes of Antrim, Carlow and Westmeath, a new minor format could speed up the process, for one Galway play 3 games and theyve won an all ireland, and Antrim geographically are badly positioned.

Maybe an open draw set up at this age level? this year Meath seem to be doing well, laois have beaten Offaly, westmeath and carlow seem strong enough despite a blip by the carlow minors. You could have 16 teams in an open draw with a back door system also in operation. It would do young teams the world of good to be playing kk or tipp in the first round rather than a provincial or all ireland semi final.

Yet more evidence at the weekend for change in the format of minor hurling, year after year ulster champions taking hammerings every now and then antrim will run a team close as galway limerick and dublin have all found in recent years, but maybe put the teams knocked out in the semi finals into a qualifying knock out round with ulster minor winners to see if they are capable of playing in the quarters, im under no illusion that Down could have competed with some of the leinster teams this year maybe even one of the main munster teams but at the same time maybe a qualifier knock out would be best to improve antrim and give them more competitive games.

There is a big gap between the top 4 or 5 and the rest. Next year Carlow at minor level I can't see them winning a game unless they play Wicklow. We will be very weak. What about the improvement of the Minor B? I see the All Ireland Quarter Finals on in two weeks and there's not a hope in hell of us entering a team and I don't know why? If they try and get the team from this year they haven't a hope of getting them all because theirs Minor U21 and Senior Club games on in the next few weeks.

I think teams beaten at quarter final stage and provincial semi and quarter stage should have the option of entering the all ireland minor B!

The club scene must work around the county scene if we want our counties to be successful.
