Jayo Cluxton wrote:samin12 wrote:You ask what could Dublin do? Well they did the right the thing, they won after all. The reality is though that Dublin could afford to push a few more players up the field to counteract being so heavily out numbered, what they did however was say "right let their players play in defence and we will outnumber their two forwards by 3 to 1, we will score very little but we will take our chances that we will keep them to less". Thats fine in my opinion, it was smart tactics but it undoutably contributed to a s***e defensive game. Im sorry but anyone who cant see what went on in that game either knows nothing about football or was to busy on the hill powdering their noses to understand what was happening on the field.
Usual cheap sh1t powder nose shot there Samin .
I can't think of a Dublin game that wasn't entertaining this year or last - despite the new emphasis on defence. Some of their attacking has been better than anything we have seen in recent years.
Again, sweet fa to do with the Donegal game. You asked me what could Dublin have done, i gave you an answer. The reality is Dublin decided to play Donegal at their own game when they saw how Donegal were set up. I have no problem with it, they won the game but the reality is they could have afforded to attack more.
I was there and I saw what went on. Also in the Kildare QF - another sh1te game - despite what some would try to tell you just cos it went to ET. You pobably sat on a barstool watching them through the bottom of a glass. Sure even a coke head on the Hill would have a better idea than a half pi55ed Armagh man.
They do say the old coke does make you very aware, so ill have to take your word for it.

A scarcity of Dublin supporters here tonight..Doubtless in their respective cots, pursuant to an early rise to cheer on the egg-chasers in the morning.
I rang Mullins' mobile there around 10 bells with 2 spare Cusack Stand tickets that came my way, only to get a voice-mail that must have been made in the enviorns of the Zoological Gardens/Glastonbury...
The thrust of the v-mail seemed to be a mixum gatherum of "Heffo/ffoo/Deffo/Anto/Jacko/Deco......

Omar logging off - Heading to the couch - a few of Aldis' Premium Munich Lagers and few snifters of Red Breast.
Jayo/Mullins even Mullins Lite (sorry - Hipster) - Enjoy your day - Come what may
Not afraid to admit "Wish we were there"
To be honest can't call this one - I'm certain Gilroy will win an All Ireland - Does he have to lose one before he wins one - who knows - On paper 2-9 for Kerry look's weaker than they have had for 7/8 years - I feel there is a big game in gooch and Declan O sullivan - - I don't fancy Connolly or Alan Brogan for the real big day.
But I do fancy bernard - I do think dublin will defend like they have never defended before-
And I come back to my post above - I won't sit on the fence - I don't fancy Brosnan or Sheehan and they are in key positions - and on this basis I will call it Dublin by 2

Re: All Ireland Final: Dublin vs Kerry 18/9/11
Well it appears my usually solid ticket man has come up short this time.. But hopefully there will be a good atmosphere in some of the pubs.
As for the game, well it's extremely hard to call. A Dublin win would be great in a way, I think it would really boost the 2012 season with every top tier county even more keen than usual to take down the Dubs if they had Sam in the capital.
Much is being made of Kerry's shaky defence but I don't think it will be as porous tomorrow as many believe it will. People said Kerry had no midfielders and that Cork would wipe them out around the middle and look how that turned out..
If I was pushed I'd say Kerry, just.
Best of luck Jayo, Mullins and Hipster and of course Triona RKF.. and KK.. Enjoy what will hopefully be a great day.

Re: All Ireland Final: Dublin vs Kerry 18/9/11
I agree with Omar about some of the Kerry players, although I'd be less worried about Sheehan than, say, Tom O'Sullivan or O'Mahony, both of whom are well past their best.
I've been saying for 2 years that Kerry are a shadow of the side that they were 5 years ago, but only Down last summer have believed in themselves sufficiently to capitalise on this. Great sides/players in all sports can often squeeze an extra title or two out of the end of their careers, mainly based on skill, experience and know-how. Mental frailties in the opposition is often a large contributing factor. The latter may be Dublin's biggest hurdle today.
I feel sure that Dublin can do to Kerry what they did to Tyrone, ripping apart an aging defence. However, Dublin will fear Kerry in a way that they didn't fear Tyrone, and this could lead to nerves and errors, on which Kerry will surely capitalise.
Dublin will play very defensively today, but the mindset must be positive. They must not set-up in fear of Kerry, but rather with a view to soaking up pressure and out-pacing them down the field in open spaces. That is when the Dublin FF line + Alan Brogan will have the chance to really test Marc O'Se & O'Sullivan, and we could see Kerry opened up for a couple of goals. Dublin will need at least 2 out of Connolly and the Brogans to have big games if they are to win.
As easy as it is to see Dublin players running over older, slower opponents, it is also easy to see them penned into their own 65, under immense pressure and conceeding frees to direct solo-running. Kerry have a lot of potential match-winners and, although 5 of their backs are over 30, it is not hard to see them winning the game. A side as finished as Tyrone scored 15 points against Dublin, and Kerry will feel confident in being able to exploit possible weaknesses in the Dublin backs, many of whom look better going forward than defending.
This is the end of the road for Kerry, and they are there for the taking. Down beat them last year by playing a game built on pressing Kerry high up the field, but I don't think that Dublin will do this. Dublin can win this, and maybe should win it, but I fear that a defensive game will play into the hands of the craftier, more experienced side. Kerry for me, by a couple of points. Good luck to fans of both sides on here.

Re: All Ireland Final: Dublin vs Kerry 18/9/11
The Dublin minor goalie will have nightmares - and rightly so, what was he at for the third goal?
Must be heartbreaking for the Dublin lads who also lost the minor hurling final.
The drive for five is down to the drive for one, and it rests on the Dublin senior footballers.
All said, great heart and commitment from Tipperary. Deserving All-Ireland champions and wonderful for a county not renowned as a football stronghold.
